jazjar Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 Is there supposed to not be a diamond on the HUD when you are using the A-A mode of the TGP? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
awjudge Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 Very good question, I've been wondering that myself... using the TGP to find and track aircraft is very hard...
jazjar Posted November 24, 2010 Author Posted November 24, 2010 Well now that doesm't make any sense. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

159th_Viper Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 Very good question, I've been wondering that myself... using the TGP to find and track aircraft is very hard... No it's not :) Set the Depressible Pipper to 41 mils (3 degrees)(TGP LOS). Point pipper at target, locate and track in Point Track mode (TMS FWD Short). JHepburn Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 No it's not :) Set the Depressible Pipper to 41 mils (3 degrees)(TGP LOS). Point pipper at target, locate and track in Point Track mode (TMS FWD Short). This works great, but one question. What is the point of even tracking with the pod if it doesn't provide steering cues in the HUD? If I'm visual enough to put the pipper on him, then I'm visual enough to put the SW seeker on him. Am I missing something?
159th_Viper Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 Am I missing something? Set HUD as SOI (Coolie Hat Up), set AA mode (MMCB Long) and slave AIM-9 seeker to TGP LOS (China Hat FWD Long). Confirm tone and launch. Useful for those 'Off-Boresight' engagements. Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? Click me to commence your Journey of Pillage and Plunder! 159th_Viper Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 ....What is the point of even tracking with the pod if it doesn't provide steering cues in the HUD?..... Before it slips my mind, forgot to mention that you also have the SA cue in the TGP MFCD that you can utilise as a steering cue in A/A engagements....if you like toying with your 'food' then there's good fun to be had no doubt :D Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? aceflier Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 Attack from above they are an easy target :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
jazjar Posted November 24, 2010 Author Posted November 24, 2010 I'd imagine that once ED implements the datalink symbols on pg. 311 of the manual on the TAD, you'd be able to hook the enemy aircrraft symbols and make them your SPI. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
StrongHarm Posted November 25, 2010 Posted November 25, 2010 This is also the easiest way to spot helos. A slow moving target masked by terrain is difficult to spot. Once you're in seek mode, you can spot a helo well outside of sidewinder range. Revealing the position of distant aircraft is valuable to situational awareness. Helos are heavily armed with radios connected to fast movers. It's a good thing that this is Early Access and we've all volunteered to help test and enhance this work in progress... despite the frustrations inherent in the task with even the simplest of software... otherwise people might not understand that this incredibly complex unfinished module is unfinished. /light-hearted sarcasm
