Raz_Specter Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 Hi Guys, Just received my HOTAS Warthog after using the HOTAS Cougar for the past 2 years and thought I would share some of the experience. Put the throttle and the stick together the other night. The throttle and the Stick both have their own USB connections which is a nice added bonus. There were no drivers in the box so after some investigation I found out that it just used proprietary windows drivers which is another nice feature. I spun up DCS A10 and lined up on the runway for takeoff. Put the flaps down by just moving the flaps switch to pos 2 (very nice and slick), whacked the throttle to full and off I went rolling down the runway. Pulled back on the stick and took off. The experience really is very responsive and impressive. The stick is absolutely fantastic. Very very responsive, there is some resistance there when pushing and pulling the stick but not enough to be uncomfortable. There is no programming to be done either, one nice feature i found but haven’t got working yet was in the option of DCS A10 to sync the HOTAS with the cockpit when starting the sim. (Tried this but after pressing pause couldn’t click anything or do anything apart from moving the camera round) The responsiveness IMHO is second to none, while in flight if you want to turn very slowly just apply a hairs breath of pressure to the stick and off you go. I think it just feels perfect. The lights on the throttle are also very nice looking and allow you to play in dimmer light while still learning the controls, the throttle feels just right and is also very responsive. I would defiantly recommend one of these HOTAS system, best thing I have bought in a long long while. Avilator Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 Have you tried the "active pause" mode? You can flip switches and so on while the aircraft is stationary. I only respond to that little mechanical voice that says "Terrain! Terrain! Pull Up! Pull Up!" kylania Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 the throttle feels just right and is also very responsive. I was playing The Serpent's Tail last night where you have a specific time to waypoint you're supposed to keep. I was able to make 1 kph changes in speed with the throttle. It was pretty cool! (Tried this but after pressing pause couldn’t click anything or do anything apart from moving the camera round) Hi Mithandra, You can solve this by pressing the 'Pause/Break' key twice when you have just gone into the cockpit upon start of a mission. :joystick: I got my Warthog plugged in today for the first time and I agree on all accounts with you. It's a nice piece of sturdy hardware from initial impressions. coolts Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 Ive temporarily ditched A-10 as beta 3 breaks my bollocks, but i have gone back to Black Shark and i can say that with the Hog, its a whole new ballgame. No curves or deadzones needed. Its beautiful. I am working up a TARGET profile for BS which should be done sometime this week. I am keeping the profile A-10 centric of you get my meaning as i want to minimise the amount of brain farts when i transition between A-10 and BS [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] i7 9700k | 32gb DDR4 | Geforce 2080ti | TrackIR 5 | Rift S | HOTAS WARTHOG | CH PRO Pedals
Yskonyn Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 I am planning to start building on a BS profile for my Hog later today as well. Good point about it going to have 'commonality' with the A-10C's profile to reduce workload and brainfarts as much as possible. There is only so much you can do, though, with the Soviet ergonomics being vastly different than the American one. ;) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Asus Z390-E, 32GB Crucial Ballistix 2400Mhz, Intel i7 9700K 5.0Ghz, Asus GTX1080 8GB, SoundBlaster AE-5, G15, Streamdeck, DSD Flight, TM Warthog, VirPil BRD, MFG Crosswind CAM5, TrackIR 5, KW-908 Jetseat, Win 10 64-bit ”Pilots do not get paid for what they do daily, but they get paid for what they are capable of doing. Succellus Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 Yes trying to maintain an "assignement profile" is always a good idea. Even then its not uncomon to brain fart from one sim to another.
