Conure Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 Hey all, Got a weird one here...Is it normal for DCS A10 to run smoother than Black Shark? I bought the game today and am playing it on: Q6600 @ 2.4ghz 4gb ddr2 800mhz ram GTX260 896 And on higher video settings (at 1900-1200) the game feels significantly smoother. Could this be a result of me being one of the lucky ones (in terms of optimization with my rig, with regards to A10) and one of the unlucky ones (with respect to rig optimisation for KA50) ? Very confused about this...Though certainly not complaining...The A10 is WAY more manouverable than I expected, it is snowing heavily here too meaning tomorrow is no work..Cannot wait to lose the next 72 hours to this :D Intel i7 6700k, Asus GTX1070, 16gb DDR4 @ 3200mhz, CH Fighterstick, CH Pro Throttle, CH Pro Rudder Pedals, Samsung Evo 850 SSD @ 500GB * 2, TrackIR 5 and 27" monitor running at 2560 * 1440, Windows 10.
Conure Posted December 2, 2010 Author Posted December 2, 2010 Quick extra question which is probably easier to answer :D in BS I pressed Alt+Enter (I think) to control the view with the mouse..This way great for start up as I don't have TIR! What's the command now? I checked the control log but can't find it! Gearbox Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 I haven't played BS but what altitudes are you comparing it to? I get much better frame rates at 10000 feet than I do on the ramp.
Crosser Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 Conure, LALT+C is probably what you're looking for to use the mouse to view. Also note that unlike in BS you cannot click while using the mouse to move POV.(atleast I haven't found a way to) As for your game running smoother do you have mirrors on/off in BS/A10? Also know that in BS your game is also rendering the blades most times too as they're whirling-to include whatever dust they might be generating. 9 times out of 10 you're also flying alot lower than in the A10. Personally I don't really seem to have any problems with running either unless I'm near water in A10 and it runs just as smooth as BS does. Both on near full graphics minus HDR/TSSA.
Avilator Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 Conure, LALT+C is probably what you're looking for to use the mouse to view. Also note that unlike in BS you cannot click while using the mouse to move POV.(atleast I haven't found a way to) Press LALT+C multiple times, and it cycles though no cursor, cursor w/no click, and cursor w/click. They may not be in that order, however. I only respond to that little mechanical voice that says "Terrain! Terrain! Pull Up! Pull Up!" Frederf Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 Apparently the "dual mode" view and mouse mode was considered a bug by ED, despite its obvious value and popularity. The intended three modes were: none, cursor control, and view control. I half-recall that patch 1.02 "fixed the bug" making the dual view/cursor control behavior no longer present. Then again I half recall there still being a way of causing that behavior.
Conure Posted December 2, 2010 Author Posted December 2, 2010 (edited) Ahhh I spoke too soon, just found that airforce base's have much lower fps! Is most combat performed in smooth FPS zones? If so, and the FPS will only tend to take big dips at base I can up the graphics a bit...That said the game still looks great on medium, in my opinion..Though I wish I could have HDR and Heat Blur!! Also, I am playing the training mission in which I have to take off and land, I tend to ge 16-19fps on that on final approach and with certain camera angles, is that quite normal? Will the FPS get much lower than it does there? It's quite a built up area with a fair bit of water etc...I think if it goes any lower it'd be unplayable! MTFDarkEagle Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 make sure water is turned to the lowest setting, that helps fps a lot! :) Lukas - "TIN TIN" - 9th Shrek Air Strike Squadron TIN TIN's Cockpit thread

Irregular programming Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 BS runs a lot slower for me as well. Standing on the tarmac with engine off I get really bad stutters in BS but A10 is fine. I also have the Q6600 4 GB ram but with a GX460 behind it.
EtherealN Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 Question out of curiosity: are these slower/faster the result of real measurements with averaging, or observational experience? Because the latter is extremely fickle and prone to errors. The GAU-8 murders my fps though...not sure why because the graphical effects arent great! SFJackBauer Posted December 3, 2010 Posted December 3, 2010 And how many FPS are we talking about exactly? Because I have a rig with slightly more punch than yours, yet I can only fly reasonably (e.g. no stutters, smooth FPS averaging 40) if I turn off lots of stuff. And I mean in missions, not in an empty cold world :)
