pitbldr Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 Hmm, no one else seems to share this excitement of helios interfacing with real switches. guess everyone else just cares about the glass cockpit and touchscreen stuff. I'm excited! I don't have and don't plan to have a touchscreen. HELIOS for me will be used to help interface my real switches and for displaying guages from the front dash - although over time, I hope to add "real" guages. :)
power5 Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 For Helios, each touch screen needs a dedicated graphics card output correct? I run my system with nVidia Surround which already uses 3x video outputs and when surround is activated, you cannot use any other outputs. Is there any way around this for Helios? Can helios work over USB output displays? What about over a network to another computer to use another computers video outputs for the touchscreens separate from the main sim's surround setup? So many possibilities I hope. ;) Pretty sure network ability was one of its features but not sure. Check back a few pages maybe. All monitors need their own video connector, but USB is a good question. Interested as well. BaD CrC Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 I have to say I am VERY excited about this new piece of software, and after all I read about it, I will surely invest in the final version. I am just a bit worry about the required configuration to run Helios that seems pretty high: Multi core 2.4ghz and 3Gb of Ram? I hope this is the recommended configuration when Helios is running on the same machine than the sim. Secondly, I also hope that you can run several clients on a network. https://www.blacksharkden.com http://discord.gg/blacksharkden
Gadroc Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Those are just what I've tested with. Download the beta and try it out we've heard very few comments of Helios impacting frame rate on a sim.
RogueRunner Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 It's nice but too expensive for me thanx. With the price of ammunition these days do not expect a warning shot.
hassata Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 No effect on fps here. Also I don't think there is anyway you would have the specs to run DCS and not be able to run HELIOS. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
rocketeer Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Gadroc, I'm waiting for you to add more functions so I can test rotary switch, pot and encoder :smilewink: My A10C cockpit thread
C6_Hellfrog Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 me too  (but he already knows that ! :worthy:)
G3 Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 (edited) the new control centre is very nice and how easy is it, nearly too easy installed the helios beta4 required dotnet4 so went back and did that first after watching the videos i made a quick profile for FC2 with a few a10 gauges and buttons, and helios was indeed alive :D the whole package is very impressive Hassata good note about the network, was just wondering that, 1 ip address that's it :) Edited December 17, 2010 by G3
Krebs20 Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 Gadroc, I'm waiting for you to add more functions so I can test rotary switch, pot and encoder :smilewink: Are you plugging in with your Leo board? Will it recognize an open cockpit cards inputs and outputs? Or is it limited to dx buttons. I'm going to browse the scs website for the rest of my night. Maybe ill find my answer there. But if someone knows please give me a shout. Helios could be a godsend for getting real life switches to be synchronized with the game. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
rocketeer Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 Yes I was using Leo board. I don't have OC cards yet. Helios should work for OC inputs and output. Whoever has tried it please post your experience here. So far even just with dx buttons it has been awesome. I think more people will be building cockpit because if Helios. My A10C cockpit thread
Feed Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 Oh, snap ... does that "yet" mean we're working on it/have it planned but it isn't working yet, or maybe we'll think about adding that at some point in the future, yet?
jrsteensen Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 It probably means yet as in "We don't have any OC cards to use for the integration." :-D OpenHornet F/A-18C 1:1 SimPit Website :: DCS Thread Link :: Discord :: Github ::
Gadroc Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 It is planned, but no specific time frame yet. Need to wrap up the initial release first.
Krebs20 Posted December 24, 2010 Posted December 24, 2010 Thanks for the heads up Gadroc, the program works pretty slick so far. OC support would be a great plus. I'll search your website again. In the meantime a list of "known" supported hardware would be great. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Midwestboi Posted December 25, 2010 Posted December 25, 2010 "(May have limited touchscreen support on Vista or XP)" I am wondering whether this will work with WinXP on a regular 'non-touchscreen' monitor for gauge display only? Thanks. CAT_101st Posted December 25, 2010 Posted December 25, 2010 Vista yes XP not sure. I am sure that if you have a working TS on XP it will work with Helios. Midwestboi Posted December 25, 2010 Posted December 25, 2010 That is the point, I do not have a touchscreen... I just want to use Helios for the gauge display feature along with the Cougar MFD's. I am hoping I can do this on an XP system. Feed Posted December 25, 2010 Posted December 25, 2010 Exactly what I'm doing, Midwestboi - using Helios on a non-touchscreen w/Cougar MFDs for Gauge display under Win XP Pro. Works great.
sopela123 Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 Hi Vega, I just replied in other thread but not sure if i explanied myself correctly. i run nvidia surround same as you with two gtx 480's but i have a third video card (gtx 9800) to run helios on a fourth monitor. so far so good, no problems (apart of the frame hit but not because of helios, it happens because os surround). my problem is to get the mfs exported to the fourth screen, i can export them to any of the other three, but not to the fourth (touch). CPU - i7 920 // Mother Board - EVGA x58 3x SLI // GPU - 2 x evga gtx 480 // GPU - 1 x Asus gtx 9800 // Windows 7 64 Bits Ultimate // Monitors - 3 x Acer GD245HQbid // TM MFD's // TM warthog // 800x600 Touchscreen
power5 Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 From what I read, FPS hit is from the DCS engine possibly. It likes to only have a single card video output. Multiple cards can cause FPS problems. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Aaron i7 2600k@4.4ghz, GTX1060-6gb, 16gb DDR3, T16000m, Track IR5 BS2-A10C-UH1-FC3-M2000-F18C-A4E-F14B-BF109
sopela123 Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 thanks for the comment power5 i think i'll start a new thread as i am getting out of topic here. i need some advise from users with nvidia surround and this is for helios CPU - i7 920 // Mother Board - EVGA x58 3x SLI // GPU - 2 x evga gtx 480 // GPU - 1 x Asus gtx 9800 // Windows 7 64 Bits Ultimate // Monitors - 3 x Acer GD245HQbid // TM MFD's // TM warthog // 800x600 Touchscreen
Midwestboi Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 (edited) Out of most of the posted pictures I've seen, a lot of people are replicating the same gauges/panels that are displayed in the DCS front view... is there a reason for the redundancy (not including the MFD's because I understand the replication with touchscreens or Cougars)? If DCS allowed a 'gauge free' front view- I could see the point- but I'm not sure if that is going to be part of the final release or not. If not- what other gauges or panels would people find useful for the secondary HELIOS display that aren't a replication?
