Steel Jaw Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 Is there any performance advantage to limiting the FPS in graphics.cfg? Thanx!! "You see, IronHand is my thing" My specs: W10 Pro, I5/11600K o/c to 4800 @1.32v, 64 GB 3200 XML RAM, Red Dragon 7800XT/16GB, monitor: GIGABYTE M32QC 32" (31.5" Viewable) QHD 2560 x 1440 (2K) 165Hz.
Lixma 06 Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 I use it. I set it at 40fps, makes the overall experience smoother instead of FPS fluctuating between extreme highs and lows.

Anyone else have any experience with this? SonofEil Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 I have mine limited to 40 as well. Like stated above, it smooths out the normal stuff, but the effects (gun, etc.) still bring it to it's knees. Disclaimer: I haven't had a lot of time with B4 yet, maybe 2 hours, so I don't know that I've "pre-compiled" all of my effects yet, as has been mentioned in other forums. i7 7700K @5.0, 1080Ti, 32GB DDR4, HMD Odyssey, TM WH, Crosswind Rudder...
diveplane Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 slapping it to 0 , will force maximum frames ingame , however less cpu cycles for other duties , this can result in a mixed bag affair, and possibly cause more micro stutters setting fps to 0. https://www.youtube.com/user/diveplane11 DCS Audio Modding.
skypirate Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 Are you guys talking about the "MaxFPS = 120;" line in graphics.cfg? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]Regards!

Necroscope Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 30 is more than enough for me. Всех убью, один останусь!
hassata Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 39 for me and is a smoother experience. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Boberro Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 I use max 30 and I like smoother play than jumps from 10 to 50. Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
asparagin Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 (edited) Also if you use v-sync then the fps will be automatically limited to the refresh rate of your monitor. (mostly 60) BTW: are the values in graphics.cfg (resolution, v-sync, fullscreen) default ones, why don`t they correspond to the real values? asparagin Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 Thx. So we can just ignore the options from graphics.cfg that appear in options.lua.. Necroscope Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 IMHO - V-sync is not an option here. Cause if it enabled you'll got FPS only equal or LOWER to your monitor refresh rate multiplied or devided by 2. F/E/ - if your LCD have 60Hz refresh rate - FPS can be - 120, 60, 30, 15, 7, 3. If the programm and PC are able to provide only 29FPS - V-sync will cut it to 15. SFME. Всех убью, один останусь!

You can check that some options like resolution found in options.lua correspond to the ones you set in the ingame options screen. Now do I turn it off in the config file or just turn it off thru my driver software?
Necroscope Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 You use trackir? Yes. It's better to have some tearing sometimes that 15 fps during all mission. IMHO of course. Всех убью, один останусь!

This is particular noticeable when you use trackir, due to quick, sudden panning. There are a lot of discussions about it. I found it in combination with trackir indispensable. Check also this thread for beta 4: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=63987 It's better to have some tearing sometimes that 15 fps during all mission. IMHO of course. Why is your cap at 15 fps? But as I said it's happening some-times. IMHO - V-sinc forced off in driver and MaxFpsLimit=30 in graphics.cfg Всех убью, один останусь!
Steel Jaw Posted December 27, 2010 Author Posted December 27, 2010 Great discussion.
