TwoLate Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 (edited) Targeting pod what a useful tool. It is fun JDAMing but also with Mavs. Lets say we have six targets. Take the TGP and get your set point on target and then short right on TMS. Do this for all six targets and it will give you six marked points. Now go to CDU and change steer point to Mark instead of flight. Select mark "a" waypoint then china hat forward long to move mav seeker to the first target. Get your lock and fire. Select mark "B", China hat forward long to get second target, get lock and fire. Rinse and repeat for all other targets. None of that moving the mav slew. Not having to move the mav slew is so much more effecient. O yea what a blast. Thanks ED. Edited January 2, 2011 by TwoLate China Hat forward long 2 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

tflash Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 I also find the TGP transformational on the A-10. Main reason is that you can now attack from medium altitude, which fits the A-10's aerodynamics very well. You can much better manage your energy than at lower level, where the lack of thrust makes itself feel. I must say that JTAC works perfect now in Beta 4! I depleted a static column of BTR-80/BMP2 from medium altitude using 4 GBU-12 and 2 JDAM, while the JTAC talked me through the several passes and lased the targets for me. Extremely cool, especially the LSS mode. You can also use this for your Mavs (together with TGP of course), then the JTAC does the work for you. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
redbaron_ict Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 Stanger, I really like this technique but I am having trouble. After I slave the Maverick seeker to the mark, how do I achieve lock on? The maverick seeker goes to the Mark I assigned it, but it never achieves lock on. When I try to fire the maverick, it gives me an error in the MFD. Is there a TMS switch I activate? One thing to be careful with this is it is marking by GPS. So depending on the angle you mark you could be actually marking behind the object. So if you come in a different heading then your intial approach you could be targeting the ground behind the object. So a way around this is try to mark the bottom of the object so your GPS mark will be very close to object at any heading into target. Very creative use of markpoints there, stanger. I do not take credit for this. Someone else had mention it can be done. I just tried it out and like it. Edited January 3, 2011 by TwoLate [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Also targeting with laser on will increase the precision of the markpoint, if you're in range for the laser to fire.

Yea I will use the TGP about 20 to 15 miles out to get my targets marked Then start firing in the same run most of the time. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Bahger Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 The only awkward thing about this technique is the need to toggle between SOIs, the HUD to cycle markpoints, the Mav screen to lock and fire the missile. I will try it using the Steerpoint key on the UFC so that I can retain the Mav screen as SOI.

With a little practice it's as equally fast than the rocker on the UFC.
