EtherealN Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 (edited) We aren't talking about anti-MiG tactics. Anti-mig tactics is to stay high and just deny the airspace. Whenever he goes out of the hills, you kill him dead. We are discussing ways for 4th-gen fighters with upgraded radars and avionics to take on stealth fighters, which is an entirely difference scenario. And, incidentally, you cannot kill the "high guy" from ground level when he is 40nm out. He can kill you though... ;) Remember: FC2 does not simulate running launches where the launcher uses the platform's speed to add on weapon range (effectively transferring platform energy to the weapon before the weapon even started burning it's own energy), but the "real world" does "simulate" this. Low launch is a difference thing though - you have a lower maximum speed, and the weapon you launch has to fight both gravity and thicker atmosphere to reach the target, whereas the target has that extra starting energy and is aided by gravity in prosecuting you. Stealth planes deny the opportunity for this in a traditional plane-on-plane fight, but there are tactics to alleviate this problem that have been tested with the 120. You do not need IRST to do a silent launch - all you need is a 120, a datalink, and a wingman. tflash Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 I would still think that the F-22 in such scenario's (where it operates in combo with the F-15) does not really have to "shut down" its own radar, since its APG-77 has precisely the advantage of having a very comprehensive EMCON suite that allows it to operate with a very low probability of intercept. MemphisBelle Posted February 27, 2012 Posted February 27, 2012 I dont like the Cockpit... The most important gauges should still be available as standart indicators....not just such screens. Considering an avionic or Power supply mailfunction. Everything´s dark and the Pilot would wish he is sitting in the good old C Variant. BlackSharkDen | BSD Discord | DCS Tutorial Collection
Pyroflash Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 (edited) So explain to me the chances of both your APU, AND your engine alt, AND your multiple batteries going out all at once? I'm going to tell you right now that that would make me reach for the ejection handle in pretty much any aircraft. Well, it would make me reach for the breakers first to make sure any pins didn't pop. And even in my Sr-20, my STBY ATT would fail, and that would leave me with airspeed and altitude as my only indicators. If I'm in IMC, the chute's going out the back. Griffin Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Can the JHMCS be used separate of the displays or are they driven by the same hardware?
Bee_Sting Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 i think that the f-15se will be a beast if they stick to air to air fighting and keep it simple! make it do one job only and that's air to air! data linking system would prove best in the air to air fight, sharing info and target awarness. the 120d will be a great tool also.(data linking and the 120d) wow!
