According to the purchase page your system meets minimum specs but is well short of maximum.

Your CPU is well above my 2.4 Quad core as the sim only utilises 2 cores.

Your ATI is behind my ATI 5770 1Gb and this is an issue, but the sim is meant to be more CPU dependant.

I get great fps from 30-70+ with annoying but acceptable stutters when things get really busy. I do not fly online. I have my settings on medium to high. I expect that medium will work for you and this is good enough for a purchase.

This issue has been covered previously, and I recommend trying a search if you have not done so already. Maybe your exact specs have already been looked at, and much of the conversation is in depth.

I'm on a Athlon II X2 240 2.8@3.36 and a ATI 5770 clocked from 850/1200 to 920/1315.

On light missions(Instant Action/Training) run between 20-40 fps, on the attached settings(except the resolution, i use on 1920x1080).

Since a 5770 is sort of equivalent to a 4850, you may need to lower some of the settings, but is going to play ok. Even better after the betas.

I think you'll be fine. Next beta also seems to have a number of FPS improvements so it'll only get better. By the way, after install run a defrag...It gave me a nice FPS boost.

Good luck

your rig will be fine - people play it on much less :-) Welcome aboard and if you have any questions just ask!

AMD Athlon II X2 250 2x3.01 ghz

4 gigabytes of RAM

Ati 4770 512mb

What settings can I expect to have solid framerate with?

I know it's beta but, just trying to figure out should I pre-purchase or not.

Thanks & kisses,

Kenan

A-10C is not fully optimized at the moment, I would wait until release, to get a better picture. My AMD has 3.2 GHz X 2, but is not doing very well. I will also have to upgrade.

You can probably run it now on maps with few units. And play campaigns when you will upgrade.

Unless you also have an Athlon II you can barely compare those on the premise of similar clock rate.

I have the Athlon X2 6400+. Yes you are correct about the direct comparison, but you can get a broad picture.

I also have the Q6600 and could overclock it to 3.0 GHz without changing any voltages or other parameters. Stress tests result in an additional 1°C raise in temperature compared to 2.4 GHz, so if you want to increase your CPU performance I would give this a try.

Well, since the day one of Lockon series, I rarely play campaigns. I prefer making my own simple missions with few fighters to go against or few ground targets to blow up. Therefore, I'm not overly worried about that aspect of the sim running poorly on my rig.

I upgraded a core 2 duo about 6 months ago to a Q9550 that I managed to get on ebay for just over 100 GBP. I got a second hand mobo off a mate, an EP45 UD3. Running windows 7 64 I overclocked the chip to 3.4GHz so I could have a 1600 FSB, running in sync with my RAM at 800MHz (x2).

I also upgraded an 8800GT to a 460 and my system is running perfecty. I set my voltage to just slightly higher than the stock and it's not crashed once, temps are fine using a Megahalems with a Scythe S-Flex 120mm and a nexus 120mm fan on the sink, they both get great reviews for their quietness and performance on silentpcreview and quietpc.

A ralatively cheap upgrade compared to i7/i5 stuff and I see no need to upgrade for quite some time now. I may go for an SSD but the performance benefit isn't as bang for buck as I'd like right now.

BS and A10 perform really well, especially BS. Compared to the E6600 and 8800GT, which did well for their age, I have no problems whatsoever. I will be interested to see how A10 pans out performance wise along with the update for BS that will come around the same time as the RC of A10 (I presume).

I have learnt to do the best upgrade for the smallest price over the years and have been happy. I'd push my Q9550 further if I have to but no need for now.

Overclocking is sometimes massively looked down upon, especially in the audio PC world as stability is paramount. Really, though, now I have overclocked a few of my chips and know when I'm getting a nice boost without upping voltage too much or seeing stupid temperatures, especially when I know I'm using a great cooler and some nice 120mm fans, I don't see the point in not doing so anymore.

I'm on Kenan on this one, and I beleive my Dell is not given easily to overclocking. Anyway, with my personality, if I start down that road it won't stop until there is liquid nitrogen spilt all over my carpet

Try a refurbed Dell XPS or Alienware. They're made specifically to overclock. Mine came stock with a liquid cooling unit. I priced the parts out at around $5000 on newegg for individual order if I were to build it myself. The XPS720 cost me around $1500 almost 3 yrs ago. I upgraded the two 8800GTXs to a GTX570sc recently.. and my Q6850extreme is sufficient overclocked from 3ghz to 3.66 with stock hardware and software. I'm running DCS:A-10 on the highest settings across the board without stutter.. and I still have 3yrs left on my extended warranty.

I've been building systems since the 90s, but I think going with Dell was a good decision.

It's a good thing that this is Early Access and we've all volunteered to help test and enhance this work in progress... despite the frustrations inherent in the task with even the simplest of software... otherwise people might not understand that this incredibly complex unfinished module is unfinished. /light-hearted sarcasm
