I just successfully practiced to use the GAU-8 for Air-Air (on my wingman I orderd to circle :music_whistling:) and what does this brilliant accomplishment bring about as a special treat after returning to base?!

If you want a challenge, go up in BFM against a mate - with you carrying a full payload and him being clean. A nice way to see the impact of weight and drag on aircraft performance. :)

thats what I tried, it's impossible. had to jettison ordnance to have a chance with the gun in A2A. and that's against a circling target that ignores me...

BTW: with empty stations (except AIM9s and ecm and litening pod) the hog handles damn pretty nice.

Well, it's possible to do (I've done it), but you need more than just skill. If you are up real high you're toast, but down on the deck you can work with terrain to even things out (basically make the other guy hesitate about how to maneuver to stay in a controlling position).

But yes, the best idea is to just jet the A2G munitions and do what you can to survive, but it's fun as a challenge. :P

I'll always carry two sidewinders, just in case I run into a slow mover or helo. Now if MiG's are heading my way its time to turn tail and hit full mil!

Has anyone downed a helo with a LGB yet? ;)

Why shoot the wingman is what I was wondering? Why not create a simple mission with an enemy aircraft? Or why not set weapons to safe/training, performed a simulated gun pass and watch the track to see what you where doing right or wrong?

To whom it may concern,

I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that.

Thank you for you patience.

it was more of a spontaneous practice i guess. and who would use set the master/gun switch to training in a sim?! like running windows apps in wine in a virtual machine running linux in windows

(for the same reason i wonder why ED spend time on modeling training ordnance rather than on a DC...) :music_whistling:

The guys that don't want this to happen to them.

"You've commited fratricide! You lost all of your combat scores!"

And they can play against another Human without having to start/restart.

Instead of having to restart the engine, and the whole process, they can reset, get some separation and practice again.

Reading that I was reminded of the crazy metaller trying to shuffle away from the police in Pick of Destiny.

Hits full mil. "Come on Migs - catch me now!".

Migs flash past. "Damn!"

Wasn't it a strike eagle that got a kill that way in Desert Storm?

Seriously? did the pilots have to pay for their ordnance by then and chose rather not to use missiles anymore? ;-)

And surely less than a 2000 pounder wouldn't have been enough taking out that hind.

Oh Yeah - Mudhen serial #89-0487. Mind you, Hind was in a hover at the time.

Don't know about that. Pretty sure that even a 500-pounder or less would have more than sufficed. As it is, visual accounts from the pilots involved stated that the Gunship was "Vaporized".
