I wasn't being modest, this really is a pointless post. The Ka50 side of the forum isn't seeing much traffic of late due to the arrival of it's new brother. But this new sibling, although admittedly cool and attractive, still serves to remind me of what a brilliant release Black Shark was. I now know the difference between TMS forward short and China Hat aft...and I am over it. It's a novelty to tinker with while I wait for the day that the Black Shark is allowed to play in the WH world. Because DCS:BS is STILL the greatest advance in modern air combat simulation and now more than ever it deserves it's honored spot as the flagship of the series.

There is no other helicopter combat simulation ( and probably never will be ) that has the top quality simulation credentials Black Shark has.

Totally immersive and if your of a type ( and I think we all here are) that has to learn something well to "do it " well, this sim beats them all.

The single seat battlefield helicopter role, as envisioned by Kamov, has to be learnt and followed if any sort of success is to be achieved. Not to mention you have to fly a helicopter well first!!

That post wasn't so pointless. Black Shark is great. I just need to take the time to learn it, and some other sims. It's taking longer than I thought it would, but I've only been getting back into sims for the past 9 months. It was very daunting at first. Now it's not daunting, but I know i've a lot to learn about all of these sims. Black shark included. I keep flying for a while before having my rotors collide. I must learn to be more patient.

Black Shark is indeed very special, being the flagship of DCS series while many more modules still to come will make it even more special. And the best thing about it is that it will get upgraded each time (hopefully) a new module is being released.

Black Shark is a very important milestone in the flight sims development. I would rather divide it on two - before and after BS.

Excellent post! While I purchased A-10, I did not take it as enthusiastic as when Black Shark came out. I mostly fly BS. I can not wait for compatibility patch.

Really looking forward to when the compatibility patch comes up and it gets all the new dcs enhancements, ai etc. But question is will it be enough to put it at no1?? I dont think so..

BS will always be BS.

When it was released the community fell overthemselves with the complexity and fidelity of such an awesomely made sim. It truely was, hell, is, the ONLY proper simulator out there. FSX, ARMA series, doesn't come close. You can't just jump into a BS, you need hours in the seat to make her dance and put her where you want to, first time, every time.

Anticipation, describes the community awaiting the DCS A-10C model. amazed, of course, we all are, fantastic job by ED and the Devs, but 'anticipation' none the less.

With BS, it was a punch in the face with a hammer and then like being set on fire by a group of 'hoodies', while they done something nasty to, well, i dunno................your gran?

Exactly, gobsmaked!

Well done OP

+1 here.

I am interested in getting A-10 once they iron out some of the issues with the release build, but when the compat patch comes, I believe I'll always be found in the BS. It takes so much more finesse to fly a helicopter, let alone fly it in a combat environment whilst working weapons systems etc.

I've been in the BS for a couple months now, and can start/fly/return home pretty effectively. However, nuances in the nav systems and getting unguided rockets to hit targets (while in the heat of combat) is shaky at best. It will be a LONG time before I know all the ins and outs, and I look forward to that trip.

Long live BS! I _do_ hope that after they make a fast mover they go to the Apache though... :D

Someday we'll look back on all this and plow into a parked car.

While I do enjoy the Ka-50 I didn't take to learning it quite like I did with the A-10C. That said there is definitely something cool about that chopper and I'll certainly keep flying it.

The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world.

I kind of see Black Shark as a piece of art. It really is like you're in another world when you fly it, some games achieve that, like Operation Flashpoint at the time, but now ARMA has lost that 'feeling' unfortunately, for me.

BS, however, I think gave me that vibe again, A10 doesn't feel as evocative, for some reason. Don't get me wrong, though, A10 is great but I haven't put the time into it enough yet. I will do.

Flying the Shark kinda reminds me of why my dad drives classic cars. It sorta feels like you can smell the cockpit, looking outside the craft you feel like you can taste the air. It's a strange feeling, one that only really comes into effect when you've finished playing and start reflecting.

Anyway, I'm getting a little OTT now.

Black Shark is truly a masterpiece.

i actualy got the WH stick for the A-10c then found myself flying the Ka-50 with it the first day I got it hehe, I know its a diffrent aircraft but the new stick made such a diffrence to all the sims I fly hehe.

Most of my time is spent learning about the A-10 but I will put aside an hour or two a week for the BS so when it gets ported over to the otherside I will be ready hehe.

Black Shark will always be special.

Black Shark is something like the Air Combat Aces of World War I ...

No matter how many years have passed, no matter the means they had, no matter the simplicity of their machines and the "primitive" stage of Aerial Warfare... THEY are the FIRST who wrote history in the air while others just followed. For that they will be remembered!

The OP is far from pointless!!!

Every time I play this, I hone my abilities noticeably. I still can't land, but for me there's some amazing feeling of controlling this beast that was like a wild stallion when I first took off, and now it's getting to the stage where I can happily shoot things if they're not actively shooting at me. I can fly in a (mostly) controlled manner. Still couldn't land if my real life depended on it though.

DCS:BS is still the premier combat helo sim. I'll buy A-10 because I want to support ED, but once BS gets your heart, that's it. You'll never want to go back and see that world any higher than 100 metres, or faster than 250kph..

As has been said before, the Shark gives back what you put in. It's awesome.
