bmbpdk Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Last night i couldn get my TIR5 to work properly, it jumped and bounced around like a squirrel in a peanut factory, and today i found out why... The TIR5 uses light as input-source (no surprise), but what i didn knew, was that every bright light-source may interfere with the sensor. I have my pc in one end of my livingroom, and 7-8m (approx. 22-24 feet) away i have a lamp with three diodes. These three diodes is almost the exact pattern as the three diodes in the track clip pro (yep, what a "LOL-example" of bad luck), and there for the sensor sees two track clip pro. The pictures below perhaps describes it better than me: Above is my pc-setup, with the sensor sitting atop of my monitor Above is my lamp with the three diodes, note the pattern they sit in The proof: The green dots are from the track clip pro, and the red dots are from my lamp :megalol: So if your TIR suddenly acts as the squirrel in a peanut factory, the check for interfering light-sources EDIT: A lighter also interfers with the sensor Inno3d RTX 2070 Twin X2, ASUS STRIX Z270E Gaming, Intel i7 7700K, 32GB Corsair vengeance, Kingston Hyper X FPS Alloy Cherry MX Red, Logitech G102 Prodigy, Track Ir 5, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS, Saitek Combat Rudder pedals, Beyer Dynamic DT770, Acer CB280HK 4K monitor, Win 10 Pro 64bit
Pyroflash Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 TIR is infra red, so technically any significant heat source will bugger it up, that includes a light. My TIR sometimes messes up and goes all over the place, but there is nothing interfering with it, and it only does it when I turn my head to the right. I am thinking it is because the track clip has to turn more to the right for a right turn that a left turn requires and one one the emitters may be weak at such an angle. I don't know which one I should replace, the clip or the camera. Maybe both :). If you aim for the sky, you will never hit the ground.
bmbpdk Posted February 28, 2011 Author Posted February 28, 2011 try moving the sensor slightly to one side, as ive done. the track clip pro sits on the left side of my headset and therefor i need to move it (sensor) to the left, if it was on the right side, i had to move it (sensor) to the right Inno3d RTX 2070 Twin X2, ASUS STRIX Z270E Gaming, Intel i7 7700K, 32GB Corsair vengeance, Kingston Hyper X FPS Alloy Cherry MX Red, Logitech G102 Prodigy, Track Ir 5, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS, Saitek Combat Rudder pedals, Beyer Dynamic DT770, Acer CB280HK 4K monitor, Win 10 Pro 64bit
Tracer2k Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 i've noticed that my track ir sometimes goes crazy with a proper light reflecting from my necklace, and some times from few screws in my headphones. StrongHarm Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 I've attached my camera to the wall at about 5ft and I angle my clip slightly upwards. I have complete range of motion unless I turn completely around. This makes it easier for me to get closer to the monitor so I can turn and zoom at consoles. It's a good thing that this is Early Access and we've all volunteered to help test and enhance this work in progress... despite the frustrations inherent in the task with even the simplest of software... otherwise people might not understand that this incredibly complex unfinished module is unfinished. /light-hearted sarcasm

I was thinking of that, perhaps you could post a picture of how you did that? What about heat-dissipation from the sensor? PlainSight Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Hmm, i thought visible light affects only while in track clip mode. But pro uses IR leds and the camera filters out visible range light. [SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Lonecrow66 Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Yeah thats cool. I don't have anything behind me though. But I think I figured out my problem. Two of the dots will actually touch and that messes things up totally when I look down and to the left. I just need to decrease the range I need to look so I don't get the dots touching.. --- May your takeoffs equal your landings!

wtfisgoingon Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Switch to Camera View. You want the dots to be sort of in the center, however the MOST important thing is when you turn your head in every direction that those dots do not turn red, this happens if the angles are wrong. So having it in camera mode makes it easier to see as you tilt your head fully in each direction watching those dots. If you see them get close together adjust slightly so they stay green. Also try and stay within 3-4 feet from camera to clip although this usually isn't a big problem. Just making slight adjustments until the dots stay fully green. i7-920 @3.8Ghz / MSI X58m / 8GB DDR3 / 2 x HD5770 / Asus-vw226h @1920x1200 / 2x OCZ Vertex 2 80GB SSD's / Win 7-64 / TrackIR 5 / Saitek x52 / Razer BlackWidow Mech Keyboard / Razer Deathadder Stuttering or fps problems? Guest Cayenne Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 (edited) 3 Years of flawless TIR use, without a doubt THE finest piece of flight sim hardware..well I haven't tried the TM Warthog yet.... TIPS: Point the led's straight at the camera and the camera straight at the leds. From the Natural Point web site I get that the camera is in front of the ir's not your face. this helps with the left turn problem. If You use the hat clip then its in front of Your face. In the TIR UI you will see a "Camera" tab...use the Light Filter Threshold, and the IR Brightness sliders while looking at the camera window to tune the camera. You can see the unwanted interference boost and decay. Sit as You would be flying feet on rudder etc...center the trackIR "F12" and look at the camera window You should only see three green dots and they should be vertical and centered. adjust the ir clip and/or camera as necessary it only has to be close not perfect... edit: Also swinging the IR clip out and away a little helps the camera differentiate l & r head turns and if You play with the axis curves You will realize that You can turn all the way around by moving Your head a tiny bit, or 1 to 1 this is true for all six axis'. Side note for DCS/Warthog use: The in game TIR axis tune seems to override any TIR profiles...please see My specs... and for fun....if You think Your TV remote is not working just bring up the TIR camera window and point the remote at the TIR camera and press a button on the remote and You will probably realize the batteries in the remote are dead..You can tell when they are week ...now You have an IR transmitter tester..... And a kool side note: The people at Natural Point adapted IR missile tracking technology to head tracking...... Edited March 1, 2011 by Cayenne mor info
