Hello, I know there are a few people here with 2600k, just curious what your using for CPU cooler?

I'm using stock HSF right now, and temps are getting up to 85c.

Any recommendations? Thanks!

I use the Cooler Masters Hyper 212 and it has worked very good with my old q6600 (OC to 3.4 max temp was high 50s at max load) and AMD Phenonm II X2 (OC to 3.8 and unlock to x4. Temps around low 50 at max load)

To whom it may concern,

I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that.

Thank you for you patience.

Actually that is the cooler I was checking out. It's under $30....which is sweet.

That cooler is ok, but if you have a bigger budget (and a reasonably big case) I would recommend the Noctua NH-D14, bigger, but very very good cooling performance! My cpu max is 45-50 (on .5GHZ o/c).

Now that's what I really wanted to hear! I've been trying to push my 2600k to higher OC's but at 4.7Ghz it's getting real hot.

I have HAF 932. I should be able to fit the Noctua NH-D14.

Did you say 5Ghz overclock?? With a AMD Phenom II X4 955?

Edit - Just watched a youtube vid of someone installing the NH-D14. It's MASSIVE!! haha I like it.

Yeah that should fit it I suppose ;) Nice case!

I wish ;) Note the "." in front of the 5 ;) (i.e. 0.5 ghz o/c :) )

Yea it's quite big, but it cools very good!

And the accessory bundle if very large: you have all the installation kit needed (Apart from a screwdriver IIRC......), plus one of the best thermal compounds available :)

If your budget allows it, its not that much though, get the Corsair H50 or H70. I got the H70 and I have an i7 Nehalem at stock for the time being, I plan to kick it at 3.5 sometime. Right now at stock it has around 20c at idle and 30-35c at full.

The Corsair A70 gets very good reviews for balance between noise levels, thermal performance and pricing.

Depending on your budget of course, I just went with an H70 and was able to clock my Q6600 to 3.265GHz without going over 47 degrees C. under load. It's pretty amazing.

I also have a mid-sized case so space was an issue for me. Here's what it looks like..

It mounts right to the back fan slot of my case. Comes off with 4 screws therefore if you need to get to something behind it also.

I got an i5 750, a 1156 cpu, but I think I can still recommend the Noctua NH-U12P (the SE2 has got one more fan, totalling 2) if the NH-D14 is too big or too expensive for your taste. Rock solid mounting system and you can orient it so that air flows through it from the front to the back or from bottom to top, according to your case's arrangement.

I had the H50 for my Q6600 just a month ago. I sold the H50 thinking it wouldn't be compatible with the new 1155 board...I was wrong..

They do perform good, no doubt about that. But they perform similar to some higher end air coolers.

Hmmm very nice. That one is a bit smaller and I bet the difference in performance is not that much compared to it's bigger brother. It's not an easy decision.

It's in norwegian, but you get the idea.

Price is around $45.

The low noise (along with the decent thermal properties and pricing) it's what sold it to me.

I'm on water cooling. coolit vantage.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

Nice. I would only do water cooling if I had $1700 in backup funds in case I F*ck something up.

I just bought the same case for a build. I went with the thermalright silver arrow. It was on sale at Micro Center for $59 i couldn't resist. It's almost the same (but a little better):) as the NH-D14.

The Noctua coolers are excellent. They'll beat those cheap "watercooled" kits any day.

What MTF said.

If its a possibility my CPU goes around 65 up to 70 C full load when the ambient temp is 35-40 C. Its monstrous its not that expansive and beyond all it works.

I should add that my haf 922 has other 4 fan to cool the case.

I ended up going for something cheap, but still good quality.

Cooler Master Hyper 212+

With this cooling, I was able to go prime95 64bit stable at 5Ghz for 30 minutes @ 1.4-1.45v.

I have not seen the temps go over 72c. During DCSW & DCSBS gameplay, temperatures never go over 52c.

I decided on the overclock settings in my sig. 4.8Ghz is plenty.

So far it's working out great. :-)
