This feature was removed after beta 3.

As far as I have understood, no, it was removed because of a contract issue.

The last word from EB1 was that it 'may' return in a further developed form at some point, but this is far from certain to say the least.

I wouldn't hold your breath on that one. As already mentioned it wasn't a technical problem, but an contract issue that meant it had to be removed. I wouldn't bet on feature like the JTAC or artillery/ground unit command returning until/unless ED find a new and interesting way of doing it.

 

Of course I could be wrong, it has been to know to happen from time to time.

Don´t want to dig out the dead but I stumbled across a

featuring the human JTAC and were quite impressed.

 

Is there any new intel on this topic? Controllable JTACs would be so supertastic. Just imagine guiding in a few GBUs or 30mm rounds by doing the 9-liner with your buddies... whoa...

How does a lack of "intel" about a subject provide enough information for someone to declare any aspect of it to be "nonsense"?:doh:

Now that's pretty vaque and could mean almost anything. Anyone has more precise information about this? I'm curious.

I'd say there's probably a lot of people who have more precise information, but may not be at liberty to say. Military contracts can be funky and may include secrecy clauses. (And not only military contracts - even most business contracts in the civvie world that I've been party to contain secrecy clauses.) I wouldn't know since I've not seen ED's contracts (they have no reason to show them to me :P ), but just remember to consider that ED may not have an option other than being vague about it.

All we need is an SDK and no contract can hold back such a mod.:thumbup:

As for human JTAC it would be ok but it can be still done just get someone to fly over the tgt and eject then walk over to the tgt and call it in.:lol: No I'm not kidding yes you can do that .

You can do this in Arma2 and you can ground lase a tgt for missiles/LGBs.

For Multiplayer, there is a way to create a human JTAC.

In the ME, in the area where you want the JTAC to be, place a structure (I usually use a "Block" as it represents a FOB, typical of Afghanistan).

If in multiplayer, the person who is the JTAC, choose spectator.

Then find the structure with F12. Then CTRL F11, and you get a camera view from the structure, i.e. the view of the JTAC.

 

You know the co-ords of your own position, and from the map, can estimate co-ords of target.

As I am sure you all know, the basic and key skill of a JTAC is to talk in the pilot to get an accurate ID of the target. This you can do with the above methodology.

In real life, you do not always have the luxury of a laser designator, usually because the batteries have run out!
