ED Team Groove Posted March 29, 2011 ED Team Posted March 29, 2011 (edited) German Newspaper SPIEGEL reports AC-130 Spectres and A-10C Thunderbolts are in action in Lybia since the last weekend. Edited March 29, 2011 by Groove Our Forum Rules: http://forums.eagle.ru/rules.php#en
MoGas Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Were you able to see exact model? I found a listing that said they were A-10A's, but given the type of missions flown I would have expected Charlies to be desirable. EDIT: Some more on that, though not much details http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5ivqpxZ7v8PLAE_wbXJFCsZSVUYhQ?docId=CNG.46ed509ca7a9eeedf960f4296681ac80.e31 81st Fighter Squadron's A-10C "Spangdahlem"
MoGas Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Btw. any update about the F-15E, I mean, shot down or not? Because in the next AFM they will report a downing from it?

MoGas Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Aviationweek on SA-24 http://bit.ly/fJwWq9 "The single coalition aircraft destroyed so far is an F-15E that suffered mechanical problems. The pilot and weapon systems officer were rescued. A MiG-23 flown by the Libyan rebels was shot down near Benghazi by friendly anti-aircraft fire. The third air casualty was a Libyan air force G-2 Galeg trainer" Youre link says as well mechanical problems. Waiting for the AFM...:)
hassata Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Were you able to see exact model? Just saw some take-off footage on Sky-looks like C's. The difference between footage of the rebels from last week to this is staggering. Clueless, ragtag, literally running in circles then, disciplined, moving in formation, focused now. SAS crash course, anyone? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

GGTharos Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 Given that the incident occured at night and there was a claim that 'trouble was encountered at 20000'', it doesn't seem like the SA-24 was involved. Clueless, ragtag, literally running in circles then, disciplined, moving in formation, focused now. SAS crash course, anyone? They definitely do seem more structured now. BBC reported defected Libyan army officers have joined them recently. Perhaps that has made the difference. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

hassata Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 its a game... The Libyan Foreign Minister just defected to the UK. This is the same character who was expelled from the UK when he was Ambassador for threatening to kill dissidents, and as Intelligence Chief was subsequently connected to Lockerbie. Ironic the jet looked so close to be retired just a few years back. .
