wow thats not too good, my initial thoughts are "have i just bought a lemon again from ubisoft (IL2COD) again with high hopes ala silent hunter 5. ohh deary me let it be not true. damn ubisoft are fantastic at killing of franchises now i think about it.

Also are the rapid changes from the storm of war straight into the cliffs of dover anything to do with his leaving. lots of room for scepticism here.

I blame ubi...they have a way of cranking out garbage that had potential to be great.

Wonder if this is authentic. Not something I'd expect anyone to say on the eve of a massive 6 plus year development release.

If it is, sad news, but I really can't blame him. The industry as a whole has changed mostly for the worse. Expectations and costs to do anything are sky high and all the extra work required for flight simulations (that aren't evident in screenshots) at taxing.

I wish him the best in whatever decision he has made, but not after a big thanks for his contribution to virtual WW2 aviation.

The true is that I'm still involved in a game industry. Still with sims.

However I'm thinking what to do next. One way I found. Another in research. All ways based on advanced gaming technologies.

I see real feature of gaming idustry, where also Mac take some part together with PC and concoles will be on a separate side or on the same if only they may have some still uniquie features of PC....

But where I don't see any great interests at the moment in the tablets and mobiles.

Some say that all should go for iOS... its a mistake. Some say that PC is died - its more greater mistake. Some say that only consoles may bring profit... that is also mistake (its not a mistake if the speech is about non so complex products that are going for the one time release without long life on the market).

For the stand alone products that are done only for PC, that have no analogs, that are the best, that are even in its only own small niche - there is the way to get income that to go forward.

Hope someone undertands my thoughs.

I think the original youtube comment in the linky was aimed more at Ubi than at the community. Speculation of course, but indeed, Ubi does have a great record for killing potentially great games due to release deadlines and restricting devs.

A shame really and if this is indeed right, then all hopes for expanding IL2CoD are 'up in the air'. How ironically sad.

Phew, least he is staying in the game and, I agree with his thoughts, iOS, consoles, etc etc, a sim on any of them ???

Oleg is born for what he does and no way could he just walk away from it all, ok he may take a break, but I personally cant see him just give it all up and walk away, change the style of his working practises and get away from UBI, possibly and fingers crossed hopefully, but Oleg in my opinion is here to stay.

But sayign all that I wouldnt put it past him to walk away at somepoint, you just have to look at all the whiny 10whiners and all the other "X version plane had this or does this but doesnt in the sim" moaners that propogate the il2 forums.

If ED think they have it bad, I bet they are glad that they dont get the same volume of whiners and moaners as Oleg does.

Yeah the IL-2 forums can be rather hostile at times. The endless discussions about the so-called Uber planes were very tiresome.

But in a positive light; it must be rewarding at the same time, if you created something that so many people become so passionate about. You must be doing a lot of things right, despite the pessimism some show in the community.

He should make the same bussiness model like ED, those guys are russian so he could ask them for advice.

I am sure that he could earn a lot of money when publishing digital il2 COD

Plenty of whiners, eejits and asshats in the IL-2 community, and that's actually one of the reasons why I personally don't play it anymore - although the game getting cracked was the real final last straw for me. But none of that is Oleg's fault of course...

But anyway, sad to see the man go if the rumours are true

Someone tell Oleg that we need more of his kind of brave thinkers.

And btw, we could use some more testers. Oleg? :D

Jokes aside - I wish Oleg all the best for his future - I hope he doesn't dissapear from the scene.

This is sad times.

Since he called too many bosse(s), i see this annoucement, if real, as a round kick on the Ubisoft, and wannabe fanbase chin.

I never signed there because of the winning like: the circle around the (insert instrument here) is not of the right color in the model (insert name here) its shamefull how can you miss that and call yourself fidelity sim builder, and QQ, QQ, QQ until ass bleed.

If its tiresome for mere player that ocasionaly go there, imagine for a team of dev, tired, stressed, and dogged by a shafting company like Ubershit that is also cornered own player base, that brag that now the 11 years old code have been cracked, they can show how ubber they are and how pathetic the team is...

I really hope this is a gambit, and Oleg can attract some investments and work for himself as a boss to satay on the simming market.

It may also be the fact that maybe he don t see much where to walk from now that WW2 scenario is done, WW1 is taken, and modern time is walking on modern times.

Thoug i would love someone doing corean to the nam sim era.

anyway it rumours are true, it seems in the last COD times , Oleg name was more used for MKT purpose more than anything because UBI probably feared a COD flop if news of Oleg leaving leaked.

And him doing it now that his soul is free, isn t that surprising on the chess board if rumours are true.

Would UBI making 1C realease the game on Console be also a main attrition point that cut some major tieing ropes ? How much work had he to divert for console ? How much frustration had it to endure being diverted from the main project ?

And it sold for what 3 month ? Pathetic.

But now we fear for COD pos sales development...

Many factors pilling themselves could explain this bail out with parachute.

If he could open a company building cockpit parts for PC (like panels) for WW2 sims and modern sims, i would be very happy. :)

I am still holding out hope that COD will live up to The Hype,But I'm holding off on the pre-order.

I don't think it's fair to hold any game in direct competition to the "hype" that's been generated around it. It's probably impossible to live up to it, especially THIS one given the nature and expectations of many in the genre.

I have no doubt if it's not 100% on release, it will grow and improve the same way the original IL-2 series did.

That's just my two cents anyway :)

Much expectation as the first serie was ground breaking, people expect ground breaking again... but its hard to do it twice in a row..
