iControl DCS (Another iPad pit)

Fantastic, with a few remarks

 

Just had a go on my 2 with iCtrlDCS. Just awesome. Adding landing gear and flap and speedbrake switches is indeed helpful, although I have them mapped to HOTAS, speedbrake did not function. It's not really an issue, but the problem is lag. I've plugged the ipad to a USB 2.0 , a SSD port, and a USB 3.0 port. All of them lagged. And the app sometimes froze even though I alt tabbed many times, it worked back. So I'm guessing its a power issue or ipad self sleeps but keeps iCtrl running.

 

 

With that said, I recommend your software for 2 reasons:

 

1- Multifunction engine and CDU and UFC panels without having to look at them in cockpit, which is super.

 

2- Radios stack.

 

But please consider developing a standalone CDU app for I think it would be faster considering the lag.

Oh, one more thing, what is the sequence of connection and running?

iControl DCS uses Wifi to transfer key commands and video, the USB port you use won't change a thing.

Make sure your wifi connection is as good as it can get.

 

Also check your PCs connection to the network and update your network drivers.

 

If some buttons do not function is most likely because you have changed the default keyboard mapping for said function.

strange.. today I had a 2 hr flight with iCtrl and it worked. Speedbrakes worked too. This time I plugged to SSD and the lag became less as I flew away from base. It was Shore 4 (Armed Recce) mission.

 

One thing though, I've selected show CDU and shoved it's position settings manually below borders of my main screen, only to find CDU buttons working and not the display itself on ipad. any ideas? my native res is 1366*768.

Okay. I just read the review in SimHq and am now interested in getting the IControl for my A-10. However, I have a few questions. I presently have 2 monitors with the TM MFDs on my second monitor. My questions are:

 

1. Can I continue to run the TM MFDs on my 2nd monitor and use the IPad/Icontrol for everything else?

 

2. Will the MFD's appear twice, once on the TM's and again on the IControl?

 

3. Do I use the second monitor as the virtual monitor for the MFD's from the primary monitors? Or can I just move the MFDs from my primary monitor that are in the upper corners and move them to my TM MFDs on the second monitor?

 

4. Is it worth trying out the free version to test the above or just go to the paid version-the price is really not an issue-just don't want to have to do everything twice if it all is going to work nicely.

 

5. I assume that IControl plays nicely with the WH controllers that I just got as a birthday present and love (I have even programmed the LEDs).

 

I think I answered this over at SimHQ, but in case someone else here has similar questions, here were my responses:

 

1. Yep!

3. You can arrange them however you want. The server will pull them from wherever you're exporting them to be used on the TM MFDs.

4. I would always recommend grabbing the free version and making sure it works well for you.

5. Unlike some of the other apps that fake keypresses, iControl DCS sends commands directly to the simulator, so no matter what your keybindings, we won't mess with them.

This is working/will work with black shark (world version as I bought all 3 modules)? I want to buy icontrol for bs not a10.

 

For the time being this is only for A-10. This is a side project for me and I just don't have time right now to do the rest of the aircraft. Believe me, I want to. I need to clone myself! :)

As was mentioned before, iControl DCS/A-10 VC use WiFi to do the communication between your iPad and computer. It is critical that you've got a very strong WiFi connection and that nothing else on the network is using a lot of bandwidth while you're gaming.

 

If you're not using the live MFDs, you can disable them from the server. This will prevent the live displays from being sent to the iPad and will free up bandwidth. You can also reduce the quality and frequency of updates on the CDU repeater in the Server settings. This will reduce the bandwidth requirements and CPU overhead required on your PC.

 

At some point in the future there may be a CDU only product, but not yet :)

Could you add seat handle and Timmer button , since iControl have not enough function for start up.

 

Otherwise, ILS and Tacan have no button for turn on, could you adjust that.

any known issue with iControl and multiplayer compatability? i ran the scripts tonight after purchase and now i keep getting "connection interrupted" on any attempt to join a 104th MP server...

 

where do i begin to troubleshoot and is there a way to restore to allow me to play on the 104th again?

Sometimes i get the same error...Did you try other servres? Or the problem is only with 104th MP server?

In DCS folder inside windows start menu, there is DCS repair or restore icon, start it to restore original files..After that your iControl wont work, so you need to update dcs scripts again in iControlDCS server program. After that, try the multiplayer it should work.

Can't seem to get a virtual monitor going on my system, so i'll save it for when i get a second monitor. Which scripts does the A-10 VC Server modify so i can get the view back to its default state? Running the DC World version.

Change the screen preset in the options menu from A-10C Server to 1Screen or whatever your default setting was.

 

You can also look at C:\[install directory]\DCS World\Config\MonitorSetup

there, an original .lua is always saved.

Hey hreich, a quick question if I may, how dd you solve the problem of not being able to extend the displays with the virtual monitor with out getting the "unable to save settings" problem ?

 

I had it working with my old computer but just can't seem to sort it out with my new one, could the fact its SLI be the problem ?

Last time i had that problem reinstalling win7 helped.. Couldnt find any other solution...

 

Now i Have my LED TV connected to my PC via graphics card HDMI connector.

Ah i see, bummer, it's a new computer and I just finished getting everything installed correctly on it, I don't know if I really want to go through the hassle of doing it all again, I might try some other things, failing that a second monitor might be the way to go.

Just an update in case someone else has this problem, disabling SLI seems to fix it for those with that set up, a bit of a drag but a work around none the less.

Hey Guys, I just got this installed and set up with my new second monitor, it all connects properly but the problem I'm having is that once I've got it set up with the MFD's and CDU on the second monitor using the display configuration tool, the sim now runs at 5fps and no faster no matter what I do.

 

I'ts definitely not my rig as it's brand and very high spec, I'm kinda pulling my hair out with this so any help would be fantastic guys,thanks

Check that you dont have debug mode enabled in icontrol dcs server util

Well it is like it is. I wonder why it seems impossible to me to run both A10C i Control and Helios together. All the gauges stay the same when "Dofile \\A10VCServer\\main.lua" stays active in export.lua.

Try disabling aero. You can do that either in A-10 VC Server settings, or in sim if you're running DCS: World.

There's an issue when Helios and iControl DCS are enabled at the same time. It's my fault and I need to fix it in the server. Can you open a ticket at http://support.bit-shift.com and I'll make sure that the fix works for you as well as someone else who had the problem before I release a new version of the server?
