Focha Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 Hi all, Just something that been buzzing in my head. Probably this was already brought up. Why there are so many servers with passwords? It's just a waste of server space and energy to have those on and not open it to public. I see many with 0 people. So, although I have no right to do it, still I ask, is there any logical reason for so many servers with 10 or more places to be online but password protected? Isn't it a waste of energy to have those server online for nothing? Maybe it's just me that thinks that way. Thanks for your time. Regards. Some of them can use company's electric and network ;) Others see they can afford to keep server up even if it is used less. :) Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... shu77 Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 It can be rather frustrating for those of us that dont belong to a squadron, there dont seem to be so many 'community servers' like the 104th is for FC2 yet, but it does seem to be improving slowly. Its looking more and more like there will be a BS-A10 Patch which will help, and theres some good servers coming on line, just had an enjoyable morning with the 77th. 1 Hornet, Super Carrier, Warthog & (II), Mustang, Spitfire, Albatross, Sabre, Combined Arms, FC3, Nevada, Gulf, Normandy, Syria AH-6J i9 10900K @ 5.0GHz, Gigabyte Z490 Vision G, Cooler Master ML120L, Gigabyte RTX3080 OC Gaming 10Gb, 64GB RAM, Reverb G2 @ 2480x2428, TM Warthog, Saitek pedals & throttle, DIY collective, TrackIR4, Cougar MFDs, vx3276-2k Combat Wombat's Airfield & Enroute Maps and Planning Tools
Speed Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 (edited) Well, if you would log into the squad's teamspeak servers, you might be surprised to learn that a large percentage of squads, such as the 16th and I believe, the 1st, does not require you to join the squad if you want to do some flying on the passworded server, and you are a mature person. Quite often, the password is to prevent the retards, teamkillers, and those who refuse to join the teamspeak server, from joining. At other times, we don't want someone who doesn't know the "program" to mess up the flight. For example, I have a mission that if random people joined, it would simply fail. Insanatrix Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Number One reason is right here... http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=70755 I got a good track where I said I was damaged comming in for landing at batumi and when I landed there were 4 A-10's taking off in succession and it was like playing carmaggeddon with a broken plane.
Aylward Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 In open servers, If it's not jerks shooting down friendly planes in formation, or the tanker you're trying to connect to, it's people like Mower pointed out above who bitch about how everyone's flying it when they come in or something similar...that seems to be the general consensus. Some nights i can handle whatever comes in and I leave my server open.. some i just want to run specific missions with those i know, and I keep it closed. As mentioned some only allow access after you get on TS/comms, which allows some interface with people as opposed to waiting for the silent plane coming up behind you to see if he starts strafing you or throwing sidewinders at you before you know to boot him.
