Itkovian Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 Salutations. I was flying my daily landing practice mission, and fiddling with the CDU a bit (reading the navigation chapter of the flight manual), when I noticed that after playing around with acceleration and the autopilot a bit my heading scale at the bottom of the HUD was replaced by a flashing NOTE message. I looked around for anything I might have borked, and could not figure out what was doing this, or how to return the heading scale. So if anyone could tell me what I might have done wrong that can cause this, and how to restore the heading scale, it would be most appreciated. Thank you. Itkovian
nomdeplume Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 You can clear notes/warning/caution messages on the HUD using TMS Left short. The note itself should appear on both MFCDs. If you were flying around for a while, did you happen to Mavericks in your payload? If you leave them switched on for more than 30 minutes, you'll get a note to 'check EO time' or similar. Basically the cooling only works for so long and you shouldn't leave them powered on for extended periods.
kingneptune117 Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 On the right MFCD press the bottom right OSB. It should say "ACK" I believe. -Ice Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 Turn off your Mavs for a couple of seconds.... and you can turn them back on right away. - Ice
Inseckt Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 (edited) If you keep "forcing" the mavs in this manner to exeed their recommanded active-time, is it modelled so that they will eventually become damaged/degraded? I think I have experienced degraded lock-capability, but that could very well be becuse I am biased to expect such an anomaly... I <3 this sim. PlainSight Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 pretty sure they can burn out if left on =) Ive not had this yet but I seem to remeber reading somewhere So what's the recommended "on" time? [SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
Spetz Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 The mavericks will not burn out. It is not modeled in the sim. I cant find the ED Testers post on it but I believe it was from 159th_Viper.
Itkovian Posted April 2, 2011 Author Posted April 2, 2011 Hum, well I'm not sure about the mavs, I was flying a free flight mission and I haven't learned how to use ordinance yet. But allright, I will keep that in mind next time it happens. TMS left short, got it. :) Thank you. Itkovian
Itkovian Posted April 2, 2011 Author Posted April 2, 2011 Hum, so I just flew another free flight (finishing navigation section of the manual), and then played around with mavericks and the TGP a bit, and when I was done and diverting to a nearby airfield, I noticed my heading scale was again gone. This time, there was no flashing message, nothing. It simply was not there. I fiddled with HUD modes and gunsight modes, to no avail (and tried TMS left short). Anyone know how to restore the heading scale at the bottom of the HUD? Thank you. Itkovian
doright Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 Try hitting the CLR key on the UFC or CDC. The times I've seen this it was a null text string in the scratchpad.
Inseckt Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 This might seem like a stupid suggestion, but if your using trackir, your view center will sometimes move a litte during operations, and this again can affect the portion of the hud wich is visible. This is confirmable by raising your chair... This is probably not it, but I thought I should throw it out there. Akilez Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 I see both the 'note' indicator and the missing heading scale on the HUD on nearly every mission. I've lost track of the times I've had to navigate with the mechanical compass (which leaves a bit to be desired). Didn't know about the Maverick cooling issue so thanks for that. I do use TrackIR and re-centering it is always the first thing I do and it never sorts things out. If the OP doesn't post a screeny I'll see what I can do to get one posted.

Well, if I can reproduce the situation I will, but this was the first time it happened to me. And it wasn't TrackIR, as I could see the scratchpad that is normally underneath it (I was in permanent function mode for the UFC, but that can't be it). Itkovian

Itkovian If you were in permanent function mode (there is an F in the scratchpad) then according to the Flight Manual page 362 #3 states: Heading Tape / Scratchpad. The heading tape scale is a tape of increment marks and numerics indicating magnetic heading. A fixed index pointer indicates the magnetic heading. Each mark on the tape represents 5º of magnetic heading, and a 2-digit label is provided at each 10º interval. When text or numeric data is entered on the UFC or CDU, the scratchpad appears in this area and replaces the heading tape and desired magnetic heading. Clear your scratchpad. Itkovian Posted April 3, 2011 Author Posted April 3, 2011 Excellent, thank you. :) Not quite there yet in the manual, mind you (currently reading about the DSMS). Itkovian
