KLaFaille Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 (edited) UPDATED 1MAY11: Due to other priorities and factors between the parties involved, this project has been placed on hold indefinitely. Thank you to all who did provide input into this thread. It will help should something similar become viable again. Keith Hi Everyone, I'm in discussions with Mike Williams of Viper Panels (http://shop.viperpits.org/) on having my UFC and CDU designs made and offered for sale to everyone. We currently need to know what sort of interest there are in these panels and a general idea of the number of people that would be interested in purchasing the panels. We are very early in the discussion process, but a rough guess of 10-20 panels will have to be created to keep costs reasonable. A rough cost has yet to be determined, but a clearer picture should emerge in the near future. On to the panels. These are drawn to scale from the A-10C flight manual, and are as close to real dimensions as you can get without having a real specimen of either unit in your hands. I believe we will be able to offer these as backlit panels, but again we are at an early stage here so nothing is set in stone yet. The panels will come complete with a button set, and I have added a couple images of final design of the UFC, and a WIP 85% complete CDU. The production buttons and plates will be laser engraved. UFC - 1 - 28MAR11 by KLaFaille, on Flickr CDU and SCREEN - 6APR11 by KLaFaille, on Flickr Again, this thread is to gauge interest in the panels to see what sort of numbers we will be dealing with. I please ask that you keep any questions or comments in this thread. And do remember this is at a very early stage. I'll add info as things come together. Thanks, Keith LaFaille "Red" Edited May 1, 2011 by KLaFaille UPDATE
TheBigDog Posted April 7, 2011 Posted April 7, 2011 Hi Keith, first off they look fantastic! I can tell you really put a lot of work into them, and you get a big thank you from this flight sim enthusiast! I would certainly be interested in the CDU that you are designing, depending on the final cost. Here's one question, what were your plans for the screen for the CDU? Personally, I would be happy with it being blank and then we could throw a small LCD monitor in there if anything... Overall, if it's something that would be in the $300 range, i would say I am absolutely interested, anything higher than that I would have to see how things are going at that point. Again, thanks for your hard work!
pitbull Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 Nice job! CDU looks amazing... and is very tempting! ;o) pending on the price of course, but like TBD said above me, if under 300$, I would be in on that. cheers! MTFDarkEagle Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 Wow that looks great :) I would be interested in a UFC, if the price is right, and everything is included (i.e. lights + electronics (i.e. switches/switchboard etc)). KLaFaille Posted April 8, 2011 Author Posted April 8, 2011 Hi guys, Thanks for your comments. Regarding the LCD screen, I do have a specific 4" TFT picked out, but no driver card for it yet. Likely this panel would be sold with the customer providing the screen, however Depending on the qty of screens I can get into the country, I might be able to offer a screen as an accessory. If this project goes through I will look more closely into that option. I believe the plan would be to offer the UFC as a complete unit ready for an interface card, but at this early stage I can't say for sure. Thank you for your input on what you'd be willing to spend, guys. I will pass along that info. Help spread the word if you can, the more people who are interested the lower the price can be. :) Keith

KLaFaille Posted May 1, 2011 Author Posted May 1, 2011 How did you get your hands on an C model flight manual, they are still FOUO. Let me rephrase that statement. They were drawn from the cockpit arrangement drawing from the C Model flight manual, which has been floating around. To everyone else, due to priorities and other factors between the parties involved, this project has been placed on hold indefinitely. I had forgotten about the thread and will update the original post accordingly. My apologies. I really appreciate your input though, it does help gauge the general level of interest out there should this become viable again.
