Just in case you guys didn't see it, there is a wiki page for DCS A-10C. Look at the top of your Forum page and it says "wiki".

Yes, but to be fair the current wiki - though quite useful - is far from the type of learning portal I was suggesting. Having a wiki is not necessarily the same as having a great wiki :-)

Then I encourage all of you to create the New Pilot area on the existing wiki, and make it great.

There is no sense in making a separate and new wiki for new pilots, that will just fracture things even more.

haha just what I was looking for. Just bought this game on Steam. I downloaded all the pdf guides and will read them through. Btw, are there instructional videos that are helpful for beginners? I watched the start up video on youtube by the DCS producer. Would love to see more. Thank you.

(egi offset tutorial...I know Fish has done more vids and they are excellent, but couldn't find them quickly..or if he hasn't he should!!)

All of WariorX's online tutorials are EXCELLENT also (please see his forum auto sig for links)

To be fair, a lot of these are medium to advanced, but I think you can reach teh "medium" point (an arbitrary distinction!) pretty quikley to where you'll actually want to know how to input UTM coords manually or set up an Offset in the EGI

Many Thanx for bring this all together...

I see this mention of the training videos that come with the game and the terms/jargon used and the extra non-essential information clutters them up.

I found as a new Pilot that the You Tube videos and guides have educated me far beyond what the training vids in game have done and once I obtained that data I then went to the training vids in game and still don't know what they are talking about 1/5 the time but it is getting beter.

I just want to say thanx to the many in the community that have contributed to my education by far it is not complete but I find one more good piece of data everytime I look for something else. Keep it coming and the new Pilots stand a great chance of sticking it out!

Thanx again,

Wheels

PS. WarriorX said it early on and it was the turning point for me understanding weapon employment the SPI setting the Sensor Point of Interest is vital; things will fall into place once this is accomplished and will become 2nd hand. Also learn early on there is a difference between the SOI Sensor Of Interest and the SPI (mentioned above).

W__

Read the manual, fly the training missions, if you don't understand it read the manual more, get as much of the basics together as you can.......

........and don't worry about getting online! Just do it. The majority of the more finer detail I have learned has been online with other pilots (some will be more helpful than others but don't hold it against them, they want to fly as much as you and may not be in the mood for teaching/training that evening especially if they have been doing it for the past few nights) This is much easier if you have voice comms than it is using chat as people can talk you through how to do things.

So find out and practice as much as you can...then come chat!!

Online is the way forward aswell!!:D

WHeelchair and all the other helpful sim pilots here hello!

I have found the first real sim since falcon 3.0 on my 486dx2 (before most of you were born back in 1992).. And your community here is very helpful and actaully made me like the game way more.

I bought a couple copies to focus on lan play. After reading these manuals, printing, maxing out the graphics out to beyond... i found the people here smart and finally a game you have to learn deep on first, and a game that is not console focused. i suffered with hawx 2, did ya'll feel the same?

Welcome to the Forums twistedneck!

I agree, it sure felt good to get back into a Study Sim, and the addition of the GAU 8 is just the topping on the cake!

THANK YOU for the new pilots guide. After studying SOI and SPI I feel 100x's more confident in this aircraft. Everything makes a LOT more sense if you can wrap your head around these two features!

Hah, I still suck at finding targets... trying to get used to playing without labels.

There was a target on a hillside I was looking for, and I was looking right at it but couldn't see it because of the awful contrasting terrain. Only reason I saw him is he fired an ATM and the huge heat explosion gave him away :p

Thank you THANK YOU for all that have contributed. I myself and dedicating tonight memorizing start-up procedures. I hope I can get in the air soon as I'd like to fly with you all and learn more! TTT!

Thank you for helping newbies

First of all

thank you for bringing up this thread. I have DCS a-10C since 1 or two month. Finally i managed to learn the start up procedure, now dont need a "help" for this any more. I really like to start up, taxiing and to take off.

Now its the second step (training vids), navigation and learning the MCFDs. Its a litlle bit hard i dont give up.

THIS IS REALLY THE BEST SIM. I flew sims from th 1980s. I have waited until i get a DVD version, now i am eager to learn to fly it and handle this beauty called HOG.

I really wait for that book with nearly 800 pages. Cant wait to have it and read it.

I must say i had problems installing it at the beginning. But there was is much help from many on this forum.

Without this help, it would have been very nuch harder.

So again, THANX for the developers, members who helped me to enjoy this great sim even much more!!!!!

Normal and Emergency Interactive Checklists

I finished my work on a normal and emergency Interactive checklist system created in Microsoft Excel 2010.

I use it on my MacBook (running Windows 7) next to my 2 monitors so I have a Interactive checklist system I can follow. It has a menu from which you can choose the checklist you need and check all items of as you follow the list. No need for papers checklists anymore. And not all of us have an iPad, but most do have a laptop.

Find the checklist here : http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=55949

New pilots get junior officer collateral duties pick any two of the following:

1 - Venereal Disease Control Officer. You will brief the enlisted of the dangers of unprotected sex. Be sure to mention Black Syphilis.

2 - Substance Abuse Control Officer. You will supervise the filling of urinalysis bottles.

3 - Movie Officer - You will be solely responsible for the movie to be shown in the ready room? It had better not suck. Good luck finding something no one has seen yet. Female pilot in the squadron? No skin. It had still better be good.

4 - Enlisted berthing inspection officer - You will discover PFC Johnson's stroke sock.

5 - CBRN Readiness Officer - You will count gas masks in perpetuity. You better hope another newer pilot checks into the squadron, and soon, because you will never get the same number twice.

6 - SORTS Bitch. You don't ever wanna know.

7 - Flight Schedule Bitch - You will write the next days' flight schedule...over and over and over and over....stand by for Change 57.

8 - MWR Officer - supervise handing out towels in the gym.

9 - Hydration Officer - Ensure all the enlisted dudes drink water and don't pass out on the flight line or flight deck.

And Number Ten:

PHONE WATCH :)

Hah, Phone Watch! No lunch for you!

Hello to the A10 community from a new (ah not a hog driver) I would say a hog’s tail (so far behind the aircraft I just follow it around unless it backs up). Let me say thanks for all the work and effort put into getting the info out there for us “new guys/gals” to utilize and get up to speed on the A10. Had this sim for about 1 week now and all I can say is…..well I can’t say that on here. I’ve been flying sims since the 90s and came over from the ka-50 and I am still overwhelmed. Keep up the good work and thanks again. Oh yea I choose Movie Officer....lol

“Shiny Switch Method”

:thumbup:1. You only need to flip the switches that are shiny. Someone before you figured out those make the aircraft work no need to second guess it.

:(2. Never fly an aircraft with a shiny ejection handle.
