Dodgeza Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 Hi Guys, Just thought I'd post a photo and a small video of the iControl DCS setup I have been testing with boarder2. The product performs flawlessly and I have found very little performance impact with it. If you have an iPad this is a must have application for your flying. check out www.bit-shift.com/icontrol-dcs for more info. I don't think I could fly without this now. It should be available in the appstore shortly. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dR5-eh5qQv8 "Never give in, never give in, never, never, never, never-in nothing" - Winston Churchill _________________ Windows 7 64bit - AMD 1090T OC @ 4.02ghz NB @2.6ghz - MSI 990FXA-GD80 - 4x Geil Black Dragon 2GB 9-9-9-28 @ 1666mhz - 2x Geforce 580 GTX SLI OC @ Core 900Mhz Shaders 1800Mhz Memory 2100Mhz - Samsung 24" T240 @ 1900 x 1200 - 2 x Velicoraptor 150GB HDD - TM Warthog - Track IR 5 - Saitek Rudder Pedals - iPad & iPad2 running iControl DCS
Kaiza Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Looks great. Do you have to have the MFDs on the bottom right and left of your main screen for it to work? Wartski Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Awesome! But what kind of iPads to use? I have no experience with iPads. iPads = $ too. Question, why are the MFDs displayed on the monitor's lower corners when you have iPads?? W7 x64, i7 965, Rampage II Extreme, GTX480, 6GB Corsair 1866 cl7

Dodgeza Posted May 2, 2011 Author Posted May 2, 2011 Unfortunately you do have to have the MFDs exported to the screen. If you have multiple monitors you can export them to the other screens as not to clutter your view. The server applet that goes with the iPad client is very intuitive and allows easy setup of lua scripts used to make the screen configuration possible. I guess thats a matter of preference, but not having to click the buttons with the mouse is great. Really makes the A10 experience way more tactile and satisfying. Controlling CDU together with MFD really makes JTAC operation great as well. lobo Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 There must be a way to do this without having the MFCD displayed 3 times? In the video it appears you will have the MFCD as normally displayed in cockpit, you then have a copy of the MFCD exported in a corner of the screen, then you have the third touch screen copy of the MFCD as displayed on the IPAD? Is there a way to avoid the exported MFCD in the corner of screen, without having a second monitor? Dodgeza Posted May 4, 2011 Author Posted May 4, 2011 Is there a way to avoid the exported MFCD in the corner of screen, without having a second monitor? No DCS was not designed like this as far as I know. You need to export the viewports somewhere. Be interesting to see, will have a look. ;-).. Although thinking about it... those off screen areas aren't rendered and don't form part of your resolution so it probably won't work... I'll try anyway though. Is there a way to avoid the exported MFCD in the corner of screen, without having a second monitor? It is because of how the application works: through a screenshot grabber, basically takes fast screenshots of a specific area of the display, which appear as a video data. If you don't have from where it can "screenshot" info from, then you have no video. Another option would be to make the iPad as a second monitor. I managed to do this myself, but with the current applications, the performance is not really good. I wonder if the viewports on the monitor could be given coordinates that are off the monitor. Don't think so, because the reason above. I tried this with my Ipadpit (working the same way) but could not get it to work. We would need an virtual monitor for that. tried it with some 3th party tools but no go for so fare. www.Ipadpit.nl :pilotfly:
asparagin Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 I'll just post the tutorial on how to get the Ipad as a second monitor, which I used maybe it will help some of you guys, you never know, or at least give you ideas. But as I said the performance wasn't so great: http://www.ngineer.net/technology/using-my-ipad-as-a-second-monitor-for-my-windows-laptop/ Also there is VMware view for IPad, some saying that it's faster method, but never tried out. Sickdog Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 (edited) I suppose it's a waste of a good display, but I just got this working with my new iPad by using a second display monitor to avoid having the live MFDs cluttering my main FOV. Works great as a solution to keep a pristine "camera" view. EDIT: Whoops, posted this in the wrong thread... Sorry, not using the iControl DCS, using the other one... with the Touch IR software. But interested in seeing this iControl when it comes out! Edited May 8, 2011 by Sickdog TM Warthog, TPR, TM MFDs, Pimax Crystal, AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D. boarder2 Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 (edited) Sorry guys, having to export the MFDs to the display is just a limitation of the simulator. There's nothing I can do about it. It's possible that there would be some round about methods to get it to work another way, but none of them would be easy to use, and likely would not be as performant. The scripting left over from LOMAC says that the MFDs can be exported to shared memory, however it doesn't work. And ED seems to have no interest in adding support for it. You can read my post about my adventures in trying to get this to work here http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=69989 If someone can convince them to support the functions in the DCS apps I'll change my stuff to use it in an instant! :) On a side note, I have gotten a combination view with the UFC and both MFDs on a single display working today. It will come with version two, which won't be too far behind the first version when Apple finally approves it!
