Looking at buying a TM Warthog. Can any of you with a TM Warthog stick can you answer this question. Is there a switch that acts as a modifier. For example, I want to map the NVG on/off switch to the TM Warthog, can I do this without messing up all the already mapped functions. Same goes with rudder pedals, brakes, etc.

Thanks in advance.

You will have to build a profile and activate it to get the shifted functions. When the TARGET profile program is running it combines the stick and the throttle as one. This will render the DCS plug and play option unusable.

I use my pinky switch as a modifier and every A-10 function programmed.

I agree, Pinky is best, if you choose to lose the plug and play Defaults for DCS A-10, Target is not yet the best for Programing...

You could add the pinky/paddle as a modifier within the DCS contols page and retain the PnP ability, thats what I've done. Target would be a real PITA to setup as you'd have to set up a bunch of keystrokes then figure out the press and release logic for all the switches to get them working as should be.

What scarecrow said: even in the non-TARGET plug and play mode, there are a few "extras" that TM threw onto it that leave you with a few extra buttons: the pinky/paddle on the stick from the F-16, mic switch has extra directions and slew micromouse has click action.

And, of course, if you find yourself not using some option (like the engine ignitor switches on the throttle) you can always re-map them to whatever you like. Though even though I very seldom find myself having to do a manual ignite, they are very very nice to have when you find yourself needing them. Another option though is to modify the buttons with regular shifts/alt/control modifiers from the keyboard, though that sort of removes the joy of having a "true" HOTAS for the A-10.

I have to disagree until you show me a single input device scripting environment that compares to TARGET. I keep reading this kind of "opinion" about how to do things or how you can't do them using this software... That's amazing how one can read nearly anything and just the opposite in any single forum. It even looks like this works for about everything on the planet.

BTW, my shift keys are S4, MS-Up and MS-down just because they are all temporary contacts, not part of the default mapping, activable at the same time as other switches like modifiers should be... and the pinky switch is the weakest mecanical switch on the Throttle (just listen and compare to Auto Pilot switch). My few cents about how to select a shift switch.

Here is my own "opinion" in the form of lines of code and the documentation that goes with it. Just an experiment to witness how they will be transformed into vapor-ware thanks to this magic web-logic.

And I did not loose anything of the plug and play default mapping, thanks to using

TARGET, it's all 100% in there.

Simplest way is to make the paddle switch a modifier in game. TARGET may work fine but why lose out on the PnP of the Warthog and complicate things. KISS principle.

Same here. I don't use Target and use the paddle as a modifier to the pinky switch for raising and lowering the landing gear.

Me also. I use paddle as a shift for zoom (I dont know how people survive without zoom), and "joytokey" to map my mic switch to TARS as per zero mass's post

I found TARGET a nightmare. Crashed constantly.

So I must be the lucky one with TARGET. I've never seen it crash and your nightmare looks like a dream to me... Just have a look at what Logitech or others give you in order to "customize" your input devices...

It could be related to the fact that I've spent more effort that others in order to understand what happened when it did not behave as expected instead of giving up with a crappy word?

But if flying with a keyboard is not 100% satisfying, could you tell more about how you didn't do it ?
