leroy1964 Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Hi mate If you remember this was the discusssion you and me had the other day. Must say I am getting used to it moving.:joystick: Confirms it Bower, you are looking at wind. Notice the TVV is centered in the ladder. Normal function.
Laud Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 Tank busting is going pretty well although my wing has snapped a few times from the ridiculous speed I generate in my decent :D At Roll-In/Dive set throttle to idle and employ some air-brake if neccessary. At 30° gun-strafes it should keep you safe from too crazy speeds. But also keep an eye on your speed so you don't get too slow to maneuver!! 320-370kts should be fine. MTFDarkEagle Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 They can be deployed a small bit. I.e. somewhere like 10% or something.. Not sure on the exact number, but you can have the airbrakes opened a small amount for pac to work still. Don't know if this is accurate as per the real aircraft though. Mud Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 If one wants to strafe a column of vehicles on a road, similar to the video below. Should you enable PAC and "fight" it or should you disable PAC? When I disable it, the nose of my plane pitches up all over the place even if I do my best to counter the pitching. Edit: I screwed up the embed. When I disable it, the nose of my plane pitches up all over the place even if I do my best to counter the pitching. I find I have more success if I have PAC enabled and just fight/override it by pulling back in order to walk a line of rounds over the targets. It allows for a much slower traversal over the targets, which means higher density and better pK, without having to rapidly apply a lot of forward-stick at a time when you're already in a dive. Mind you, I haven't spent a lot of time trying it without PAC, so perhaps with practice it's just as compensate for the recoil. But either way you're still having to 'fight' something, and not having the stick jammed forward seems like a good thing. Additionally, I've recently acquired the habit of SAFEing the gun after I make an attack, and only arming it as I roll in. The pitch-down when you enable PAC starts to make a lot of sense when you do that, but I don't know if it's what pilots really do. 1

Here's the link in any case: I would say that all comes fown to personal preference. Next time you strafe without PAC, try to throw in sharp (fairly slight) nose down input at the moment you engage the trigger... With some practice, you will become the PAC :D Edited July 15, 2011 by SmokeyTheLung 1 System specifications: Computer, joystick, DCS world, Beer
MTFDarkEagle Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 You can also try disabling pac when you want to attack a convoy. Line up, target the nearest target, pull the trigger. If done right all the vehicles should take damage :) Lukas - "TIN TIN" - 9th Shrek Air Strike Squadron TIN TIN's Cockpit thread
112th_Rossi Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 If you have the line of vehicles directly on your nose, with PAC disable the recoil should walk the rounds all the way down the line.
Mud Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 If you have the line of vehicles directly on your nose, with PAC disable the recoil should walk the rounds all the way down the line. I find the pitch up too violent for that, causing my rounds to be more dispersed than I want. Perhaps my dive is too shallow though. MTFDarkEagle Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 You still have to "direct" the rounds through the convoy properly ;) Practice and it should be easy. Lukas - "TIN TIN" - 9th Shrek Air Strike Squadron TIN TIN's Cockpit thread
159th_Viper Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Aye - steep dive and they'll run through. Just remember to ID the column and plan the strafe as the vehicles will fish-bone and take cover when the first rounds impact. If they're transports, OK - if there are however IFV's/APC's, then you'd best be very wary attempting to run through the column. Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? Mud Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 yes just short burst till it reaches to top of the line, steer back down to the base and repeat for success! That indeed does work quite well, but I'd have more pride being able to do it like the pilot in the clip. :) I'll practice practice practice! WildBillKelsoe Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 Hey guys, Whenever I fly from a cold start I experience a very annoying issue with my HUD ladder. Only when on the ground and rarely in the air will it actually centre on the HUD. Most of the time it is very far to the left or right. Is this normal behaviour? I suspect not as I've just flown a custom-made training mission and the HUD ladder was pretty much centre the entire time. If this is just the effect of wind or something, is there a way to disable it? It makes GAU-8 strafes rather difficult. Are you using trackIR?
