Interesting. In the video, the Vikhr was launched at the Badger flying at low altitude and with its gear down (so probably really slow). To me, this just convinces me further that LOMAC's Virkhr's sniping any plane in LOMAC slower than 1000 kmph and pulling max Gs out of the air as unrealistic.

Cool vid though.

B_G_P asked : Why did Nato never give an aircraft the designation "Mushroom"?

NATO gave Warsaw Pact aircraft categories names that all started with the same letter. Aircraft of the same/similar type had letters (A,B,C etc) after to distinguish:-

Fighters / fighter-bombers begin with F eg. Fitter-A/B/etc for Su-7/17/20/22

Bombers begin with B eg Badger for Tu-16, Bear for Tu-95

Cargo/AWACS aircraft begin with C eg Colt for An-2, Candid for Il-76MD

Helo's begin with H eg Helix for Ka-27, Hind for Mi-24

Maritime Patrol aircraft begin with M eg May for Il-38, Mail for Be-12

So if anything was called Mushroom, it would be a maritime patrol one, but Il-38 and Be-12 are about the only Soviet MP a/c i can think of....

Where can I find this video? The link is not working.

Thank you for any help!

Yep, the link is dead. Does anybody have a mirror for it...?

Seems an interesting video according to comments.

Cheers,

You got part of M and C wrong. M names are given to AWACS as well. The Mainstay for example. C is strictly cargo.

I also recall some maritime aircraft given bomber designations as well, though this is likely because of dual-use or a varient of an exsisting bomber.

The "M" destination was given by NATO to miscellaneous aircraft.

NATO Warsaw Pact aircraft category names....

Nice catch Hyena and Wolverine. It's good to have the friendly Lockon safety net when on the flying trapeze of life......

Is that kinda (wildlife) spooky that it was a Hyena and a Wolverine? :)

Or am I still a bit wasted despite walking home from watching Oasis, Chemical Brothers, Kaiser Chiefs, Doves, LA's, Sonic Youth, etc. at the V festival.

Incidentally, Chemical Ali is NOT the missing member of the Chemical Brothers :icon_roll

I knew what you were trying to convey from the start mate and it didn’t really need correcting but as you know others cant resist shouting "pwned" and correcting people.

Great... You just gave them what they needed to make an aircraft spoof of the now-infamous 'badger-badger-badger' flash-video. I hope you're friggin happy.
