NOMAD1979 Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Hi there I wondered if someone could help me? After starting up the A-10C, without any problems, I can't turn NWS on! I start to roll forward and although the indicator has illuminated on the dashboard I can't steer left or right. I just run out of tarmac and end up ditching on the grass. I have uninstalled A-10c and reinstalled it with the patch 1.1.0.8. Any ideas!?! NOMAD
Eddie Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Rudder axis configured correctly in control options? Do the aircraft rudder surfaces move with your rudder inputs? Track?
cichlidfan Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 If the NWS indicator is lit then it is engaged. When it is engaged it links the nosewheel steering to the aircraft's rudder controls. How were you attempting to steer, with what controls? NOMAD1979 Posted July 17, 2011 Author Posted July 17, 2011 Thanks for reply. Yes as I move control stick the rudder surfaces move exactly as expected. I can turn while in air but not on tarmac. Thanks, NOMAD
MTFDarkEagle Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Could you post a track? Start a flight, do your thing, and after you've metaphorically crashed, exit the flight and hit the button "save track". The trackfile should be in your *username*/saved games/DCS Warthog folder somewhere. Please upload that here. Lukas - "TIN TIN" - 9th Shrek Air Strike Squadron TIN TIN's Cockpit thread
shu77 Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 (edited) If you're moving the stick that would indicate Aileron, i.e. the control surface on the edge of the Wings. NWS is controlled through the Rudder which is the foot pedals in the sim and are located on the tail of the plane, typically the twist axis on a joystick. Perhaps I misinterpreted your reply, but just trying to rule out the obvious issue. LawnDart Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 ...as I move control stick the rudder surfaces move exactly as expected. I can turn while in air but not on tarmac. Are you sure you have your rudders (Z axis) mapped? Moving the stick does not move your rudder surface (it only moves your ailerons and elevator). VincentLaw Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 You shouldn't really need the nose wheel steering to stay lined up down the runway. Sometimes I turn it off before rolling so I don't damage my nose wheel (My twist rudder is too sensitive). As long as you are lined up correctly to start with, the rudder will work before you get close to the grass. If you really can't get your nose wheel to work, try left and right wheel braking to turn your airplane. You should be able to steer left by pressing LShift+W and right by pressing LAlt+W. I hope that provides a temporary fix until you solve your problem! (also note you have to press the left shift or alt keys before the W key or it will just do a regular brake.) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
NOMAD1979 Posted July 18, 2011 Author Posted July 18, 2011 Yes splitter all SAS switches are on. I will try some of the ideas later and let you know. Thanks again for taking the time to assist. I extremely keen to get this bird in the air. NOMAD

NOMAD1979 Posted July 18, 2011 Author Posted July 18, 2011 Silly question I know but how do I assign to Z axis on my flightstick? Thanks NOMAD
159th_Viper Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Silly question I know but how do I assign to Z axis on my flightstick? Thanks NOMAD You do not. Pitch and Roll are X and Y, with Z for the Rudder IIRC. Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? Click me to commence your Journey of Pillage and Plunder! Lumper Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 What everyone needs to know to help is what kind (name/brand) of stick/setup you are using? If just a stick, then you probably have the "Y" axis set for up/down. While "X" is set for roll left/roll right. What you need is a third axis "Z" which is left/right (which in air is left right and on ground taxi left/right.) Some sticks use a twist function for this, and some do not have this capability. Frostiken Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 ^ :/ Make sure you have NWS actually bound to your joystick and / or a keyboard function. If you're using Game Mode you'll have to ensure it's bound in the Game Mode settings, since IIRC it's not by default. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
NOMAD1979 Posted July 18, 2011 Author Posted July 18, 2011 Thanks Guys I have managed to rectify this by adding a modifier to the rudder while on the tarmac. Once I switch off NWS and let go of the modifier key I can roll in the mid-air without any problems. Thanks again. NOMAD
