richiehatchet Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Save yourself a packet and use the free software FaceTrackNoIR with a webcam...(I got the ps3 eye for 20 bills). Working perfectly fine for me, no headgear and in relatively dimlighting.

I saw a thread were there was some problem but that was a while ago so they mabe fixed it? @OP I got my TIR3 and then later vector expanision from RC Simulations, they're a small family business so you get to feel good about supporting the small business community:D I don't know about the free head tracking solutions but naturalpoint are really on the ball when it comes to driver support, i had some probs when they brought out the 64bit drivers went on the forum then got p.m. from a dev team member who found a workaround for me and two weeks later they had new drivers out. You won't get that level of support from many peripheral hardware manufacturers!

Yes, I use Win7 x64 with FaceTrackNoIR and the 64bit version of DCS-A10C it definately works in all 6 DoF. If you have a webcam already that can hold a decent fps there is little reason not to try it first. I don't think anyone has done a fair comparison between the two headtracking solutions yet. Personally my only objection to TrackIR5 is the cost in the UK (or import tax if purchased abroad) given the age of the product (circa 2009) and the reported history that NaturalPoint went from TrackIR4 to 5 with little to no advanced warning! In other words who knows if there is a TrackIR6 due out next month or if even if its development! :doh: NP need to communicate with their market better IMHO...

You won't go wrong with the track ir 5. However I would say get the track clip as well. Makes a Hugh difference.
