Yo,

I am going to buy new PC lol.

What would you recommend?

I've heard that currently it makes no difference in games if you choose either i7 or i5.

i5 is fast enough many games didn't realize to use 2 cores fully, not saying about 4....

I made first proposition, would be it good?

CPU: Intel i5 2500 (3.3 Ghz)

Mainboard: Intel DH67

RAM Memory: 16 GB of DDR 3, 1333

Hard disk: HDD 1 TB

GPU: GF GTX 560, 1 GB, 256bit. DDR5

PSU: 700 Watts

Alternatively I can take i7 if it really matters. I can't change GFX card - better with 1.5 GB of VRAM costs almost twice.

I took 16 GB of RAM because it is very cheap nowadays - it is better to have 16 than 8.

You list a 700w PSU but not brand. Don't save money on that item. A cheap supply will cause you more headaches later. Personally I am a Corsair AX series fan. But basically you want something with an 80Plus rating. This is a measure of its efficiency at load.

Agreed.

Biggest mistake you can make building a pc.

For 700w dont spend less than $100US and buy a brand name. Also try to get modular for better airflow. If you are buying in person, heavier is better.

CPU: get the intel i5 2500k and oc it to ~4.6 ghz (really easy to do)

Mainboard: get the intel P8P67

RAM Memory: 8GB of 1600mhz would be ideal

Hard disk: HDD 1 TB

GPU: Get the EVGA 2GB version of the GTX 560Ti if you can - more future proof

PSU: OCZ Z-Series 80+ gold is only £90 in the UK, so get it if you can. If not a corsair TX 650 or HX 650 would be more than enough for one card, and an 850 would be more than enough for a future Sli.

Why would you recommend a gold rated unit if it was OCZ but only a bronze or silver rated unit if it was from Corsair.

Again, if you buy the right PSU then when the next upgrade comes along, the PSU won't need to be a part of it.

I forgot to note exact name, but it's price is about 120 USD. Tomorrow or Monday I'll get exact name.

Yeah I glanced on this model and it seems it will be great.

Mainboard: get the intel P8P67

I'll check that motherboard too.

Does it make big difference between 1333 and 1600?

GPU: Get the EVGA 2GB version of the GTX 560Ti if you can - more future proof

I'll check it, seems price is not much higher than normal 560, and efficienty higher.

Tomorrow or in Monday I'll get more details. ;]

Thanks for help! I'll keep you posted.

Price. In the UK a gold rated OCZ psu is £90, a gold rated Corsair psu is £160.

I hope your build goes well Boberro! :)

Wow. I picked up a Corsair AX850 and AX750 for $350 last spring and the OCZs were just a tiny bit cheaper. OCZ does make good stuff and for that much of a price difference I would have to agree.

I would certainly purchase a gold rated OCZ before a bronze Corsair.

In that case definately spend the extra for 850w since the extra head room is alway nice.

Go to I5-2500K, the K is important. ;) You will have as much speed in games as the 2600K but for less 80 dead presidents, unless your going to convert videos. If you cut here and there luxuries you really dont need you can afford an SDD which is by far the best upgrade.

Avoid vertex 3 drives, lots of firmware trouble. Best bang for the buck right now is crucial M4. And reliable.

I also plan to make a major upgrade and want to use a i7 2600K.

Here is the article that helped me the most to make this decision:

and this also

Well, they are right, it is a very OC friendly chip (4.4 on air here) but I can't argue with saving a few bucks and gong I5. You won't be able to go quite as fast but it will certainly perform very well.

I have my i5 oc'd to 4.5 using a Corsair H60, which isn't as good as a lot of air coolers. Really good cpu

I think you underestimate the H60. I got one too. Unfortunatly theres alot of desinformation going arround that they are inferior. But I have yet to see discrepancies as some say. I frequent a local PC hardware form and some people I met confessed switching to a monter air pure breed has not changed anything, but to take alot more space inside the case.

I agree  But I'm considering switching to the H100. If not only to save some space in my case. The Thermalright Silver Arrow I have does an amazing job at cooling but it is huge.

Ok guys, I have more details:

CPU: Intel i5 2500K

RAM: 8 GB of RAM Kingston HyperX Blue 1333

HDD: 1 TB of Seagate ST310005a4AS (or Samsung don't know yet)

PSU: OCZ ZS750W-EU

Motherboard: read below

GPU: read below

I have still few doubts:

  1. I have to choose between GeForce: MSI GTX 560Ti 1 GB\256 bit and Palit GTX 560Ti 2 GB\256 bit. Additional 1 GB of VRAM seems to be very nice, but I've been told Palit has worse condensators and cooling system. Everything will be fine untill there is hot temperature around (example hot summer). Is that true?
  2. Is it true i5 processor overclocks itself if needed? It can overclock itself example to 4.3 Ghz if system needs. Is it true? Frankly I've never heard about such thing yet.
  3. Motherboard. I can take intel DH67CL, but then overclocking will be not so good, Intel has poor options for overclocking. It has big plus, when MB hets broken, on next day I will get new one without asking "what happened". Just like that. I'd like consider other motherboard producer example Asus and Gigabyte. So far I have had never any problems with Asus, however guarantee service is disaster (at least in Poland). GigaByte lastly upgraded their customer service here but I have bad memories with them. But I can trust after few years of insulting, so what would you recommend?
  4. Is it true SSD disk gets full of its power above 120 GBs capacity? One man told me it is not good idea to buy example 64 GB, because I wouldn't get full speed of it anyway - only reasonable choice is minimum 120 GB to get full of abilities of SSD.

:)

Edit: As far I noticed browsing the Internet opinions about Palit are below average. Due to this fact and other that nobody except Palit and Gainward produces versions with 2048 MB, I must choose 1 GB version of GPU, which I guess will be Zotac :)

What do you think about this SSD:

OCZSSD2-2AGTE120G

I know it is not the newest one, but I can't afford for the first class disk in this type. I guess even moving on this from common HDD will make huge difference to system and applications on SSD?

Avoid it. Sandforce 2000 series controllers (also from the other vendors who use same controllers) are having compatibility problems with motherboard controllers, with P68 and Z68 on top of the black list.

Try Crucials M4. They are excellent for gaming, dont be disapointed due to their apparently lower perfomance on benchmarks. The thing is one of the best bang for the buck champions.

It wins undisputed for reliability so far.

Any half decent SSD will blow any HDD out of the watter.

Hmm thx.;]

I calculated price of that you've suggested and decided not to buy SSD now. 64 GB seems OK, but it is still too expensive, not saying about normal 120 GB or 250 GB. I'll wait for lower prices, heh SSD can be bought everytime :)

SO my final rig is:

CPU: Intel i5 2500K

RAM: 8 GB of RAM Kingston HyperX Blue 1600

HDD: 1 TB of Seagate ST310005a4AS

PSU: OCZ ZS750W-EU

Motherboard: AsRock Z68 Extreme 4/ MSI P67A-GD65/ASUS P857 (I will decide later in shop I must contact with guy)

GPU: GeForce GTX 560 Ti Zotac 1 GB

Joy: X52pr0 - it is older than X-65 but for me has better, classic usage :D

Sound: 5.1 Logitech x540\Creative T6100

Three Dimensions Heading Device: FreeTrack :D

Thank you all, cya in the skies :)

A sort of "poor man's alternative" to SSD is to heavily maintain the disk with a powerful defragger that not only offers defragmentation of files, but also defragmentation of folders. I use a utility called "Ultimate Defrag". It is payware, but they do offer an older version for free. Essentially, with it I make sure that all DCS files are located next to each other physically on the HDD, which dramatically reduces seek times. You can of course do the same with windows files for quick bootup and everything else.

It doesn't give SSD style seek-times, but it does help. :)

Question:

If DCS supports X64 and you have enough RAM to load all data the program needs, is SSD not superfluous? (Except loading times).

asparagin, one might think so, but not really - windows still is in charge of a lot of file management; you can see this through the fact that it'll still use swap files even with several gigs of free RAM.

Now, if you have enough RAM to have swap and DCS in RAMDISKs, that would be the optimal one, excepting the initial loading times.
