Hey, guys, new here to the forums. I just picked up Black Shark at the end of last week and I've only got a few hours of flight time, so I don't really know my way around the game, but this still seems messed up:

Towards the end of my first mission I'm looking down at my Shkval display and I spot some guys with MANPADS. Before I can take action a dude launches a SAM at me, I pull a split-S, bounce off the ground wrecking my Shkval and some other systems, and start to fly out of there like a bat out of hell. A couple clicks out I pretty much just drop out of the sky like a sack of batteries. So I'm thinking, "Why the freak did that happen.?"

I go back to watch the replay to see what was up, only in the replay I just crash into the side of a damn mountain way before I ever got engaged by MANPADS and all that.

So, what's the deal here? Is this a glitch? And I guess what I really want to know is, if I go back and re-watch the replay, is there a chance it might work right the second time, or am I just boned?

Thanks for your help, guys.

Here's the track if anyone is interested.

At a guess, I'd say P.I.B.I.

As for the track, in all probability boned, I'm afraid.

As this is my first sim, and I'm about 3 hours into it, I don't usually go much faster than 180 KPH. For me, flying like a bat out of hell is probably 200 or 210KPH. I have gotten the do not exceed alarm a few times though, so I know what that sounds like and I for sure wasn't getting it before my little episode.

I've been using crappy desktop speakers instead of my headphones and SAM's make zero noise when they hit me, so I'm thinking I just got swatted down by MANPADS. Guess I'll never know.

Thanks for your quick responses, guys.

Ha, just read your small print, Viper. I was like, "PIBI....... what?"

Its a point of experience in Handling the Shark.

More experience = more Speed.

How to?? Best way is to find out yourself. :smilewink:

But be sure this will need some time.

So for the beginning use the points from Viper and Nate.:joystick:

Yeah, Ring Vortex. Just got through watching the track again. You are near hovering and descending at about 15 m/s. Right into your own downwash. That's why you couldn't stop falling. Next time, do a hard left or right roll at about 45 degrees and hold it steady until your out of the vertical tunnel of your downwash and into fresh air. What's happening is that you are trying to push against air that is already traveling downwards at a high rate (i.e. the air you already pushed on before! ). So you fall like a rock. Also, never descend over about 5 m/s in a hover or going very slow. If you use the auto descent switch on the collective, it will drop you at 2 m/s.

If anyone want to watch the .trk, its only about 5 minutes long, and where he goes into Vortex is right at the end.

Did you fast forward during track playback? AFAIK, fast forwarding during track playback is indeed bugged and can lead to any number of glitches, just like what you described. I've experienced this on some of my own tracks as well.

Good thing is, as long as you don't save the track you just played back, there's no harm done to the original file.

I've watched your uploaded track for about an hour now (I stopped playback after you shut down and restarted at the FARP) and in terms of track playback it looked fine to me. I didn't watch 'til the end, though, coz this took a long time already and for all I know the track may have gone on for another two hours. And since fast forwarding might tamper with the original recording, well, that's obviously not a good idea.

As this is my first sim, and I'm about 3 hours into it, I don't usually go much faster than 180 KPH.

Well, during the playback I just watched, you went faster than 180 kph several times, including one time with IAS MAX warning and several times getting close to 275 kph without said warning. Again, I didn't watch the track until the end, but rotor blade intersection due to IAS MAX seems plausible. Like others already pointed out, it's not just about airspeed but also about the kind of maneuvers you pull during high speed flight.

Another plausible reason would be loss of hydraulics due to battle damage. The most obvious indicator is sudden loss of engine power.

And it might even be loss of engine power due to running out of gas (there will be prior warnings on the EKRAN, though).

If anyone want to watch the .trk, its only about 5 minutes long, and where he goes into Vortex is right at the end.

WTF? 5 Minutes? I just watched a track that was over an hour long. Either you watched a different track or there's yet another playback glitch. BTW, did you fast forward? :-)

PS @Jaximus Decimus: Welcome to the forums!

On a side note: For just a few hours of experience in the Shark, that was some pretty good flying IMO.

The big issue is that a track file actually records the input as you fly and feeds it into the simulation engine - it doesn't record plane positions and so on, it literally runs the simulation again but with an exact copy of your input. This means the computation load is the same as when you fly, and you can imagine that if your CPU struggles while doing it in real-time, asking it to do those same calculations at 8x the speed... Will cause weird things to happen.

I think the only way to "fix" this would be to either prohibit fast-forwarding at all (no fun) or try to make a complex algorithm that limits the replay from going faster than the computer can handle - which is really hard, I expect. (And might even be impossible without increasing the rights of the application on the host system, not 100% sure how much information a program with user-rights only can get from the OS.)

Thanks for all the replies, gentlemen.

Yes, I did indeed fast-forward the replay as I knew it should have been around one and a half hours long. And I was fast forwarding when my Shark deciding to commit seppuku on me.

StarHopper and Yurgon, thank you both for checking out the track. I guess when StarHopper was watching it glitched much sooner than mine. The first 20 or 30 minutes I played I had a lot of trouble with ring vortex, but I had a good feel for how to get out of it before I took on that mission.

Thanks for all the help. I guess I'll just let the track play out at normal speed so I can find out just what happened.
