PeterP Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 (edited) I don't suppose there is any way of having this mod and the control indicator working ? As a Non FFB Ka-50 pilot I find the control indicator vital ( mainly to know the rudder trimmed position ). Sorry, no - not in this stage. But it is absolute possible. Means : To have the NVG mask working independently from the controls-indicator I will have to declare it as a new Device for each module. So there are a lot of things to maintain. I think I will introduce the nvg-mask as a new cockpit"device" when we will see the next major change of the DCS base engine to 1.2.2 . But maybe ED will do it by them-self as they did it with the "realistic sun" mod. In the meantime I dedicate my free-time on working on the Depth of Field shader. Changing an existing shader is very easy compared to writing and a new one. I made only baby-steps up to now. There is still a lot I have to read/learn about HLSL programming... LupinYonder Posted October 11, 2012 Posted October 11, 2012 Ahh, so you were using the unchain rudder mod (unbeknownst to you of course).:) Yes! So you were RIGHT Ajax ! Sorry for being a bit snappy with you. 1
Joyride Posted October 14, 2012 Posted October 14, 2012 Loving the new A-10 NVGs. Makes me want to fly at night all the time. 1
Gunnergolly Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 (edited) Have just installed this mod... Excellent work PeterP.... you clever bugger !!! Really adds proper perception to night flying and would advise anybody and everybody who reads this to go ahead and install this NVG mod into their respective World installs. In my honest opinion ED should take note of this mod and include it as standard () ..... Regards Gunner.... PeterP Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 (edited) Nice to hear that you enjoy it! I toyed a little around with some settings at the weekend and here is one of the results : It annoyed me that I could see Airports from far away , but not the lightning of the town around it... I plan to include this High.Lua in the Final version. I raised the draw distance of the Town-lightning textures and also the roads visibility. I couldn't measure a FPS drop - I'm curious if it works for you as good as for me. The High.lua is active when you select DCS in-game > Options > System > Scenes : High Please feel free to test it and provide some feedback regarding your performance. (people that already use a edited High.lua should examine the file for changes in a editor.) Gunnergolly Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 Just tried your new "High.lua" in a 10 minute night flight flying at low and high altitudes, looking in all directions with the goggles turned on and off. Experienced no FPS drop, or any noticeable "additional" loading on my GFX card using it's performance log's... Works well and looking good. Regards... PeterP Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 (edited) Where is the difference to the standard file, even when compared to the entries I could see nothing:music_whistling: Many thanks for having a closer look! Sometimes I'm such a Dork! - you are right . Somehow the edited new file didn't made it into the upload.... I Fixed the upload now - please reload. ( and sorry to those that wasted their time with it.) The most important changes are marked in bold: mapLodDistance0 = 2000; mapLodDistance1 = 4000; mapLodDistance2 = 6000; mapLodDistance3 = 12000; smallShitDimention = 400; } distanceBlend = { townNearDistance = 20000.0; --10000 townFarDistance = 120000.0; --25000 fieldNearDistance = 10000.0; fieldFarDistance = 60000.0; --13000 waterNearDistance = 6000.0; waterFarDistance = 12000.0; townLightNearDistance = 60000.0; -- 9000 townLightFarDistance = 120000.0; subforest = {8000, 30000}; --8000, 130000 beach = {8000, 13000}; road = {8000, 30000};The bold numbers in "distanceBlend =" can be much smaller to reproduce the same effect , but I had up to now not the time to fine tune it. - the performance hit will be limited anyway by the "mapLodDistance3 = 12000;" entry AFAIK. (To be honest : I just put in 120Km because I wanted to check if the engine can handle this RL view distance - after I didn't saw a performance hit I just let it in) So your feed back is very welcome - because I don't see performance hit at all - and as I don't have a wide range of GPU's to test (I'm using a 2GB eyefinity6 HD 6870 with CCC 12.8 ) I'm have to rely on your feedback. You are also invited to fine-tweak it and post your before/after pics while having a sharp look at the performance. So we get in the end the most appealing Nigh-Time environment without putting to much load at the system during Day-Time. Edited October 15, 2012 by PeterP

Gunnergolly Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 (edited) Running a EVGA GTX580 (Factory overclocked) with the 306.23 driver i have retried your modified "High.lua" file in a simple night mission. Displaying the TGP and MAV screens on each of the MFD's at the same time, i'm happy to say that i'm not experiencing any slowdown or loss of FPS :). So i will keep your modified file and just see how it goes. P.s...(Off topic) I know this is not related to the NVG Mod, but i've noticed the biggest stress on my GFX card listening to the speed that the cooling fan is running inorder to keep the temps within limits is the green cockpit floodlighting. If i have the lighting turned up high then my GFX card seems to get a really good workout !!!... If i have the lighting turned up high then my GFX card seems to get a really good workout !!!... That's because the shaders kick in and your card activates more pixel pipelines on it for the output. - so yes, it is much more load on your card - but it will not exceed the limits or use up much more memory or CPU cycles.- the GPU activates just some parts that it didn't used before, to render the Lightning on top of the normal scene - and the GPU calculates this without further assistance of the CPU. This is all done by modifying the scene that the GPU has already rendered once and is stored already in the back-buffer of the GPU. Now your GPU just using the the instructions of the shader files (*.fx) to generate e.g. the NVG image . ...and every calculation produces some heat ... so it might hits the threshold on your card to turn the fan up. I tried every possible way to get the circled view off to the left, but, I always get the oval (stretched) view. I don´t have fancy drawing programs ( I use Paint to modify the focus.png file), so I´m not getting it. Can someone draw me this mod file for this configuration? EDITED: SOLVED! Post a screenschot with the NVG-Mask On while daytime ... If this is a problem: Just mark the area where the NVG should appear on your screen shot by using the circle drawing tool of paint. Do this in the next 20min and I will make instantly a focus.png/matching "MonitorSetup".lua for you. -if not: please read the instruction again and follow the links in it. Thanks for the explanation, when this card is being worked hard and hits that 90DegC threshold you certainly know about it !!!!... the fan noise that's generated is unnerving, but apparently it's normal behavior for this model of card... Anyway better get back on topic now :).... Regards... Grimes Posted October 23, 2012 Posted October 23, 2012 One of two things happened: 1. ED updated graphics.cfg (which I know they did with one of the auto-updates) 2. On updating, the autoupdater noticed your graphics.cfg didn't match the default one, and it downloaded the default file along with the other updated files. Whenever it "repairs" a file like this it will create a folder _backup.00x with the older file located in it. To see if there are any changes between two text files you can simply use notepad++ to compare the two files. When the game uses thousands of lua files it is impractical to list every single line change made from one update to the next. The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world. PeterP Posted October 27, 2012 Posted October 27, 2012 (edited) seems that there are no more complains about the added grain and the new shader effect. And I have the feeling that all seems to get along nice with the readme and the instruction when using a custom monitorsetup. So do you agree that I will make RC4b the final version for DCS World 1.2.1 and load it tomorrow up to the user files section ? When there are still remarks - make yourself heard within the next 12 hours. And I'm looking for someone that helps me to translate the read-me into Russian. Please send me a PM. Direwolf Posted November 10, 2012 Posted November 10, 2012 (edited) I am experiencing a glitch on a particular mission (Op. Gridiron). Still on the ground (engines off, APU off), I turn the NVG goggles on, and then I get the night vision without the mask. So I turn it off, and I got the mask (but not the night vision). I tested it on other missions, and the mod is running ok (even on day missions). Any ideas what is happening? Edited November 11, 2012 by Direwolf
