LOL Peter you are a star..

Yes sorry for the lack of explanation.. i had to run out and drop the kid at nursery...

Yes i think you got all the assumptions correct...

My cockpit camera (center viewport) is 1680x1050 and i have my MFCD/CDU/RWR etc on my 2nd monitor.. as you said the ingame screen capture only sees my center viewport.

As you said / can see the overlay is in the correct position but the actual NVG 'focus' is centred on my combined resolution and not my center viewport hence being off the side of the screen.

EDIT: regarding being slightly confused by the mod & its instructions:

  • Its a great mod and would benefit form a new thread with the 1st post having the latest info on it. Having the info in the middle of the thread with updates in later posts is quite confusing. You end up having to read a lot more than is required just to make sure you are getting the latest version.
  • The video shows copying and overwriting skins.. but this procedure seems to have slightly changed.. and is no longer copied to the skins folder.
  • The Bazar folder to go into the DCS folder is inside another folder with no obvious explanation that it needs to be moved. (I'm familar enough with this stuff so this was ok.. but i can see that stumping folk)
  • There is no explanation as to why you need a virtual drive, or why you need to run DCS INFO Win+i v.0.2.exe. Initially i didn't even understand why i need to run A-10-NVG Win+h v.0.2.exe. (even though this became obvious)
  • There is also no real explaination as to what 3RVX is and is doing. (My security software flagged it download link as potentially unsafe, this did not help (Vipre))
  • I'm not that happy running things i don't understand.. i had faith in yourself.. but running three different exe for a mod without clear understanding why did have me questioning things.

It's looking like a great mod.. and you done a lot of work, which is greatly appreciated.. and i'm only speaking frankly as a new person to this mod so you can appreciate some of the difficulties new people to the mod might have.

Thanks Peter for all your hard work!! :thumbup:

OK - than hold a minute...

My files will still have the problem that the NVG will stay in the middle - but not stretched any-more.

Give me again some minutes to load a correct file for you up that has the NVG only at the left side....

(you can click the vid again...;) )

Done! - this looks maybe strange - but you need this kind of Focus.png intead of a centred one:

focus.png

Now you maybe understand - why I really dislike to release this Mod in this current state...

Attached again are two versions - for "big" and "small" - please try and report!

Thanks Peter.. working great now.

I can understand how difficult this could be, with sooo many different resolutions to work with.

Maybe telling people how to modify a base version to their custom resolution might be the way forward.

Loving the mod.. serious tunnel vision that will take some getting used to.

Tommy,

Yes - releasing this mod will be a little difficult - so I will stay first with a beta until I worked out a "simple" instruction... (or the masses will convince ED to include this...-and also the binocular view!)

But first I have to say also thank you for your good advises and being so brave to go trough this tricky installation and finally trying this out! :thumbup:

So now that you took the first step and like this ....

It's time to go for full realism (as close I could get) and change to the "NVG Light Sensitive" Mod

like seen here:

-Please be my beta-tester!

Included is a new Aoutohotkey.exe and a new skin-preset.

Please read the readme to see what has to be changed.

This set works only satisfying at 1680x1050 camera view and you need win7-64bit

"only at 1680x1050"

Brilliant, exactly my need! ;)

A question:

Is it really like you can see around the goggle as in your video?

I have never used such a device, but always thought they would block a bigger part of the FOV.

I also thought the contrast between the screen and the peripheral vision would "dim out" the surrounding area more.

Just my unqualified thoughts, though.

Again, outstanding work in this thread!

Peter, i'd be happy to test this stuff out for you, I'm on Win 7 (x64) and running on a single monitor my res is 1680x1050. So that is all good.

I'll try and have a look at this today.. I'm out tonight and away for the weekend, so it may be next week before i can have a proper look.

Thanks Tommy

EDIT: Had a read through the files attached.. all makes sense.. will try it out asap :)

This mod is getting better and better Peter! I'll try and install this tonight when I'm home! I particularly like the binoculars!

I just move the answers from our private dialogue to this thread so others can learn from this example:

(and when having enough examples together I will extract all info and than I will open a new Thread/or ask to put the info in the #1 post -which explains exactly how everyone can add this mode to DCS.)

I assume you are still using SoftTH like I taught it you some moons ago.

And this is still representing your desktop:

attachment.php?attachmentid=48921&stc=1&thumb=1&d=1300036869

To make this NVG-mod work in full screen you have to re-assign the left monitor as you secondary -so that The camera view will be on your secondary.

This will ensure that the NVG-overlay will show up while DCS is in fullscreen.

You will also have to edit your softth config because of this - it is simply swapping the Display ID's:

[main]
renderResolution=3046x1050

...

[head_primary]
sourceRect=1680,0,1366,1050
screenMode=1366x768

[head_1]
; Autodetected as \\.\DISPLAY2 at NVIDIA GeForce GTX 295
devID=1
sourceRect=0,0,1680,1050
transportResolution=1680x1050
transportMethod=auto
noSync=0

Than you will probably have the same experience like MadTommy had and you will have to use a custom focus.png like this instead the default 1680x1050 that is normaly included in the pre-set. This will look like this and is especially tuned for your SoftTH resolution - and I made some annotations for better understanding. :

We will have to edit a Focus.png (I use Gimp for this) - starting with your In-game resolution (that will fit with the overlay in the skin folder of 3RVX - later more on this).

NVG-explained.png

When this is done - we will have to resize the hole picture to 1024x1024- so DCS can use this (DCS always spans the 1024x1024 image at the whole in-game resolution.)

This looks like this:

focus.png

@MTFDarkEagle

So please download first the ANVS-9 NVG Beta v.0.2.zip from #84

And follow the instruction and the annotations of the last page - like Madtommy did install it.

And use the pre-set that is contained in the attachment of this post- to have the light sensitive fading.

Please read also the readme in side this zip!

;) And when you don't try this and I wrote this only to waste my time - I will immediately ban you from my friendship list ;)

The Binocular-Mod is very similar but a different chapter - lets take this one step after another....

When we nailed down how to install this - you will maybe be able to do this Binocular mod by yourself.:)

Things that are different from the installation of ANVS-9 NVG Beta v.0.2

1. use now "NVG Light sensitive Win+H.exe" to activate the script. the trigger is still "Win+H"

I also inkluded the orginal *.AHK script if you want to edit something the script.

You need to download autohotkey to make this run : www.autohotkey.com

2. you have to use the new "focus.png" that you find in this zip because of your unique desktop.

Put it in \Bazar\Effects\PostMotionEffect\NightVisionGoogle

-make a backup of the old to play save!

3. Settings in 3RVX :

Display Tab>

Fade Delay = 300

FadeSpeed = 160

(you can tweak this - a higher value is more realistic!)

Position : Chose monitor ID and use "Centered" or use "Coustom Location" and x:0 y:0

Skin Chooser Tab>

NVG-Light-sensitive-1680x1050 MadT

Hotkey Setup Tab>

Eject = CTRL+I

Notes:

clickable mouse can only be used in the lower quarter of the monitor while the NVG is on/fadeing - so don't get confused!

"only at 1680x1050"

Brilliant, exactly my need! wink.gif

A question:

additional notes:

Got some feed back that this script can interferer with some additional programmed devices/programmes

I just post a conversation with a "tester" - so you get the point:

Peter,

Loss of key commands: While the mod was enabled, i lost numerous controls. I really didn't have time to test it probably, but i will do, but to give you a couple examples. I lost certain controls from my HOTAS, (x52pro, mapped in game). HAT switches would not work at all... I also use HawgTouch for an overlay for MFCD/CDU & UFC on the 2nd monitor and many of these key presses were 'scrambled'. meaning i'd press one button say on the Right MFCD and it would affect one on the Left MFCD.. all really odd, but no doubt connected with autoHotKey in some way.

many Thanks!

I programmed all additional commands also in aoutohotkey - so I have no keys interfearing with this script - But to be honest: I expected that this will happen sooner or later..

That's why it's a Beta! smile.gif

Have to rework a hotkey routine that will use only buttons that are not used by any other program.

It has 100% to do with the CTRL+I command.

Will have a look how to prevent this.

Thanks - and no hurry - the world will keep turning without this MOD finished asap...

biggrin.gif

So if you have such issues - please inform me what key presses where broken..

You could also try to edit the *.AHK script + the "eject" Hotkey of 3RVX I included -

to find a combination that isn't is used by DCS and isn't used by any other program.

But this doesn't mean the mod isn't working... its just a little issue I have to nail it down... - so please feel free to inform me if you can say how to recreate the problem.

Thanks!

If a PM isn't he appropriate tool to illustrate your issue because it's too long-winded to manage attachments:

Hello

I'm using a dual screen setup with a 22" monitor (1680X1050) placed on top of a 23" monitor (1920X1080) that is displaying capt loz's halios profile.

I'd be interested in using this mod but i'm experiencing the same stretching issue as Madtommy initially had.....(however i have configured my monitors vertically instead of horizontally and have a combine resolution of 1920X2130).

I have the small NVG bezel working ok, but the NVG image is being stretched across my two monitors.

Please could somebody help me create a custom Focus.PNG image for my setup.

I have tried to use SoftTH.....it works ok until a ground unit launches a missile against me and then the game freezes and put's me back to the main splash screen ???.

However windowed mode works well for me.

Appreciate any help.

Thanks Gunner...

Now I know that the combined resolution is 1920x2130 ... is this also your DCS in game res? and if yes - where is the camera(cockpit) view placed?

I need X/Y/widthxheight. - can it be that you use 0/0/1680x1080 in a overall 1920x2130 ?!

When I get the exact info within the next 20min - the possibility is high that you get your focus.png still in 2011.

SoftTH got a update that fixes this crashes http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1362599#post1362599

But you wouldn't be able to use it with this mod - because overlays are only be visible at a secondary screen - and you have a overlay on both screens so softth would not help you. you would have to choose if you see the NVG overlay or Helios - both wouldn't work with softth.

Edit:

Made a focus.png based on my assumption - that works only for you if the camera viewport is x=0/y=0 1680x1050 and the overall ingame res of DCS is 1920x2130 and you are using the "NVG-Light-sensitive-1680x1050" mod.

any binocular device is going to take this shape.

That may be the field of view of the actual eyes, but not of the device through which you may be looking. And your field of vision with you eyes covers quite a bit more area than the NVG's cover. Now if the image from the NVG's was so large that it completely filled your field of vision, then yes, that would be correct, but it doesn't, so the view through the NVG's is a circle.

213...when you have round lenses/optics you will have a round image - and this is absolute unrelated to the field of view you have.

Bumping...

Any good news came out of this concerning the fuctionality with 64-Bit OS's? :)

No

Ooh, ooh, ask me, ask me! I just used a set of AN/AVS-9's last night for nearly 4 hours!

Oh but it IS like looking through a toilet paper roll, and it IS a perfect circle!

Sorry.
