Here's my take on the Combat Search and Rescue mission concept - with a little twist in the ME to simulate the "search" part of it (see brief below).

Co-op 4 player. Long mission - 2-2.5 hr flight time. Built with randomized scenarios for re-playability, as well as over 30 voice-over radio messages for immersion (thus the large mission file size).

http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/111155/

Tips:

- Stick with the pilot search, he's down there. You'll get rough coordinates of last known location but you'll have to do an organized search pattern.

- Prioritize targets and threats and manage ordinance. If it's not an immediate threat to downed pilot or SAR efforts, might not be worth the ordinance.

- Reduce the volume some on the VHF knob on the back left panel so that you can hear the voice-overs better if the AI happens to be talking also

-----------------------------

Coalition air forces are operating south of Maykop this morning against enemy ground and air units scattered throughout the area north of the Georgian border.

Sandy 51/52 and Sandy 71/72 are flying standby/airborne CSAR patrol off the coast, southwest of the coalition area of operations.

Should CSAR support be needed, command will notify CSAR flights with last known coordinates of a downed aircraft to begin a grid search for the pilot(s). Be prepared to accept L/L coordinates.

Sandy aircraft should 1) locate the pilot, 2) secure and defend the pilot from incoming threats, and 3) facilitate safe ingress/egress of SAR helicopters for extraction of pilot.

Sandy 51 and Sandy 71 are uniquely equipped with the AN/ARS-6 airborne search and rescue transceiver. Both A-10s will be able to use this system independently to perform a search for a downed pilot. The system is on by default, and will provide distinct tones/messages at a 6000m radius, 3000m radius, and 1000m radius from a downed pilot. Simply follow the tones into the pilot and the pilot should then confirm their position and "visual" via radio message, flares, and/or smoke. An organized search pattern between the two flight elements is key.

Sandy 52 and Sandy 72 are NOT equipped with the AN/ARS-6 system, though they will hear the tones of their lead's system during the search operation.

NOTE that downed pilots are instructed to not use flares until they have visual confirmation with friendly aircraft in close proximity. Thus, do not expect pilot(s) to use these marks unless you are at a low-enough altitude (typically under 10,000 ft).

----------------------------------------------

TASKING:

SANDY 51/52:

Takeoff, proceed to SP "CHIEF" and orbit on-station for CSAR support, if required.

SANDY 71/72:

Takeoff, proceed to SP "INDIAN" and orbit on-station for CSAR support, if required.

Coalition Forces:

Overlord 1-1, 1x E2-D, 124.0

Uzi 4-1, 2x F16A (Belgium)

Enfield 1-1, 4x F-15C (USA) CAP

CSAR Task Force:

Sandy 51/52, 2x A-10C

Sandy 71/72, 2x A-10C

Colt 6-2, 2x F-16C (USA) RESCAP*

Springfield 1-1, 2x UH-60 SAR*

Texaco 2-1, 1x KC-135, TCN 10X, 155.0*

*Indicates ground stand-by

Package comms is 124.0

Weather:

Mostly cloudy skies, variable cloud base/ceiling. Coastal fog.

Threats:

Low radar/IR SAM threats in area of operations (AO), high SAM threats in areas west, north, and east of the AO (see tactical map). Expect mobile AAA (ZSU 23 and 23-4) and armored units. Enemy helos are high probability.

Loadout:

2x AGM-65D

6x Mk82

2x CBU-87

7x M-156 WP Rockets

TGP, ALQ-131 CM Pod

Worked fine for us. Great mission, as all of your missions, very immersive and "real".

Deephouse... provide-more-missions!!! :joystick:

Only just got around to flying this...

Awesome mission!!!

Very immersive and heaps of fun, aided by the great radio communications, which unlike many of the missions posted up here are simple and realistic.

The mission has a really good pace too, I love the longer missions requiring hops to the tanker etc.

Like Daimaju said, pleeeeeeeeeeease make more missions like this!

Excellent work, deephouse. Interesting concept, good pacing, and some neat ideas make this mission really fun to fly. The outstanding voice acting also really ups the immersion.

This is definitely in my top three favourite missions. You deserve more posts in this thread.

I agree. Although I haven't played this mission yet, a simple thank you by those who downloaded it would be nice I think. I know how much time & effort goes into mission building, especially when you want to get it right as DH does.

p.s. Thanks for the miz DH, will probably have a go at it this w/e.

Played this mission last week and really enjoyed it. Appreciate the thought that has gone into it, it really is a fun mission.

For some reason I cant give rep...

very well created mission deephouse ! Our group of the 5EVC really appreciate the realism you put into those. We also sometimes do ME and we know how much time it takes to build that kind of deep thoughts into making missions.

We did it tonight with failure unfortunatly... the pilot was captured by the ennemy :(

We were wondering about the comm tower that is been asked to destroy... did someone manage to destroy it? we dropped onto it 6 MK82 and nothing happened... I will check tomorrow a playback of the track to see really what happened...but it seamed indestructible :(

I'll give you an update later on tomorrow.

thx again for this mission...was really a fav among our group.

Operation Gridirion also was super cool to try out... very difficult too... but we are up to this challenge to keep us on the edge. all other mission after this one are easy ;P

popov - yes, the comms tower can be destroyed, but it's a pain in the a** with the loadout provided. The mavs don't lock onto the tower well, and the 82's have to be a direct hit (not easy to line up given the topography). I've definitely had my frustration with that tasking.

If it makes you feel any better, we flew it tonight on our server (I hadn't flown it in weeks), and the pilot got captured for us as well. A lone BTR got to him - somehow survived our attacks despite us finding all of the incoming groups. We got distracted by outlying targets and didn't keep at least one set of eyes on his immediate vicinity.

Deephouse, thx for your reply...I will be able to sleep tonight knowing that the TV tower was a pain for you too ;)

Do you know since the new DCS patch to 1.1.1.0 if your mission still works? We tried Gridrion tonight and the SEAD team seam not to get their target and going in the opposite direction of the target (if I noticed correctly) Anyhow their task seamed not to be accomplished in orther to tell us that the advance could take place... :(

popov - I have not tested Vetka, Gridiron, or Standby CSAR in 1.1.1.0. I heard there were some new issues with SEAD with the new patch and wondered if it broke Gridiron. I'll try to check it out today.

Sometimes it's as simple as opening the mission in the ME in the new patch, saving, and then running it. I'll fix it nonetheless. Thanks for the heads up.

the tower is doable. we flew this over the weekend. Wildfire was able to take it down in 1 pass.

popov - found out what the issue w/Gridion's SEAD was. For some reason, with 1.1.1.0 patch, there are no loadouts for the Tornado GR.4's by default, so the were going on a SEAD mission carring only harsh words and maybe some cannon rounds ;-) So, just swapped them out for German IDSs. That mission should work now.

Yepiiii ! thx Deephouse.

Hope to try this very soon.

Great mission Deephouse!!!

The first one I don't want to look in Tacview after flying, not to spoil the surprise...

We flew it couple of times already, the poor downed dude gets caught a lot...

Eventually we'll do it right sometime...

Thanks, Aries.

Just make sure someone stays over the pilot at all times if you can - it's easy to get everyone sucked up into side missions and other targets (not imminent threats) that you might find, but one pair of eyes can make the difference.
