acdarc Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 1. Can I remove BS I've installed via Steam, then download it again from your site and install it with my cd-key, buy BS2 and go from there. I would like to have it via steam but I'll go content over convenience. 2. Could you please add PayPal to your payment system? Thank you.
kylania Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 Steam never gave you an actual cd-key so you can't use it for the download version unfortunately. That's one of the reasons I got it on Steam when it was on sale, but alas not. Once they have the installer fix in place you should be able to buy BS2 and install it using your Steam BS1 install. That's one of the reasons I got it on Steam when it was on sale, but alas not. Oh bugger, you're right. There's no View CD Key-option there. As Short Round said in Indiana Jones: "Not very funny." Let's hope this gets fixed somehow.
Nate--IRL-- Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 It won't, one of the selling point of the Steam version of BS1 is that it didn't use Starforce - so no CD Key for you. The good news is that the installer that is being worked on will recognise the Steam version and allow you to purchase the Update version of BS2. Probably Due tomorrow, fingers crossed. Rooks Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 (edited) To make the assumption that it was our choice not to release BS2 (a niche flight sim game) on Steam would be a false one. Please feel free to complain to Steam. A more elaborate explanation could have been given sooner to avoid all this. At this point Wags we are all just guessing until you tell us something... ie "We would like BS2 on steam however at this point there are a few obstacles preventing such a release" would have done it succinctly for me. Thanks. Edited November 3, 2011 by Rooks Thanks
213 Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 the steam version actually does have a key. you can find it using regedit. also, when you try to activate the regular bs1 download verison, it automatically has the key in the prompt. but the steam key doesn't work with the regular version so you cannot activate using it.

kylania Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 but the steam key doesn't work with the regular version so you cannot activate using it. Exactly. Steam does not give you a cd-key you can use to activate Black Shark via DCS download. It only gives you some random key to activate itself only on Steam. YeaImRota Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 (edited) Hey everyone, I just registered to discuss this topic. I own Black Shark on Steam. If I uninstall it, will I be able to reinstall now that it isn't sold on Steam? Does anyone know for sure what's going on with this? EDIT: I'm an idiot. See below. Black Shark doesn't show up when you search "DCS" on Steam, so I was worried that it was taken down for some reason. I should have been more thorough. Anyway, I am willing to support ED for BS2. I love their sims. I just hope the compatibility patch comes out soon. http://www.reddit.com/r/hoggit Hoggit 1st Fighter Wing Weekly training missions on Tuesday nights, missions on Saturdays! Soulbrighter Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 My BS and A-10C are STEAM versions. Even if we waited, will not BS2 come on STEAM? I want BS2 handled officially on STEAM.
YeaImRota Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 My BS and A-10C are STEAM versions. Even if we waited, will not BS2 come on STEAM? I want BS2 handled officially on STEAM. Unfortunately it's been stated in this thread that it will not be released on Steam. I don't see why it couldn't be sold as a standalone game on Steam with a 50% discount for BS1 owners, but Steam has some pretty strict rules that sellers have to follow, so we don't know the whole story. This is quite a disappointment. I love having my games on Steam and a major reason I bought both DCS A-10 and Black Shark is because they were sold through Steam. I don't like having to deal with other forms of DRM. I hope that in the future BS2 will find it's way there, but at this point that's about as likely as Battlefield 3 showing up along side it. http://www.reddit.com/r/hoggit Hoggit 1st Fighter Wing Weekly training missions on Tuesday nights, missions on Saturdays! Slazi Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 Really dissapointing to hear, I refuse to deal with Starforce after having them hijack my drivers for previous products.
dwolters Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 Does this "BF2 will not be available on Steam" bode ill for eventual new DCS titles to be published on Steam as well? Seems to me to be little difference between a "DCS Black Shark 2" and a hypothetical "DCS AV-8E Harrier" (just to blurt out one possible title :-)).

No - it does not bode at all, be it ill or otherwise. I'm sure you can appreciate that any eventual new titles and their probable STEAM release cannot possibly be discussed at this time - it can only be addressed by negotiation between ED and STEAM at time of release of said future DCS module and not before. I would have thought that that goes without saying. That still doesn't tell us much about how Steam isn't making it easy for you to release BS2 as a DLC add on to the original BS we bought on Steam . Are there DLC terms you're not making us aware of?
159th_Viper Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 That still doesn't tell us much..... Quite so and I never alluded to anything otherwise. I am a volunteer and am in no way associated in a professional capacity with ED/TFC at all. As such I cannot possibly be in a position to comment on the dealings between ED and STEAM. For all I know, STEAM took one look at the price-tag of $20, snickered and told ED to scoot: ED: STEAM, kindly host BS2 if you please STEAM: Hey pal, we're in the money-making business and not in the Charity-Shop business......scoot and leave the toys to the Big-Boys will ya! OK - stupid example I know. It however illustrates my point that I know as much as you do and respect ED's decisions enough so as not to quiz their financial/marketing strategy. As far as I am concerned, if it's not there then there must be a good enough reason for it to be so - that's good enough for me. I'll reiterate: I am a volunteer and am in no way associated in a professional capacity with ED/TFC at all. As such all comments outwith possible moderation policy (wherein this post squarely falls) are my opinions and my opinions alone and do not represent the musings of ED/TFC at all. dwolters Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 So Viper, you have no idea either. Why didn't you say so when answering my (still valid) question, instead of "I would have thought that goes without saying"? I'm still puzzled by the No Steam decision (regardless where that decision was made). Perhaps the sale from the DCS products on Steam was too low for it to be profitable to continue?

I did: At the risk of repeating myself..........You asked if it bodes ill - I said no. What else do you want to hear? Oh yes - my "I would have thought that goes without saying" comment relates to us not being able to foretell the future at this stage as I said: ....can only be addressed by negotiation between ED and STEAM at time of release of said future DCS module.... Mohamengina Posted November 5, 2011 Author Posted November 5, 2011 The price logic Viper brings up seems invalid because Steam sells a lot of smaller priced games, DLC and even regular games at smaller prices than $20. My assumption is that their DLC policies are different from simply selling a vanilla game and that's what ED and steam can't agree on. Well, when you finally come to an agreement, me and my friends have our money ready.
Soulbrighter Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 I am not interested in a reason. I am interested in the method of upgrading "Steam Ver.BS1" which I own. If possible, it should be a thing which can be officially dealt with on SteamCliant.
robbc Posted November 5, 2011 Posted November 5, 2011 It really disappointing BS2 isn't going to be on Steam, whatever the reason is. I bought BS when it was first released then bought it again when it launched on Steam, I love the Sim so I don't regret it but I think hold off for now.
