Thank you for the advice.

Just a quick one ... is the MOTD working in the config file and can you auto-restart mission after time period i.e. 4 hours.

Sorry for the quextions but converted from Servman yesterday.

Hi flybynoob -

You can have a mission timeout built in as a mission Trigger Event...

Grimes is now testing Slmod Stats on the 3 Squadron public dedicated server. After a day or two of testing there, if everything goes well, I'll start sending instructions on how to test it to the people who volunteered.

Anyway speed I'm just thrilled to see you working so hard on this- and I don't want to come off as "gimme gimme gimme." These are just nice features that I found really helped administrate my server. I'm trying to keep track of all your progress and if you've already talked about this I apologize.

All the features you mention, with the exception of the MOTD periodically being resent, are things I'm already planning or have already implemented. The autokick/autoban feature will be drastically improved, for example, and more customizable. I'm thinking getting rid of the "chat logs" concept and replacing it with the "server logs" concept. Basically, a server log would only log whatever you told it to log- be it chat, friendly fire hits, kills, whatever. I'll have to think more on it though.

Temporary bans for a limited amount of time- "time-outs", will also be implemented. Also, the auto-kicking feature will be overhauled and made to integrate with SlmodStats. I will have to do something about mid-air collisions in regards to friendly fire kills- like not count them towards kicks/bans, maybe. People warp around on the ground, you don't want to ban people for warping into someone else, or for someone else warping into them. Which reminds me, I also need to group all enemy kills by using your aircraft as a weapon into a single "kamikaze" category. I also need to build a self-defense clause into SlmodStats- if you kill someone who has been team killing or team damaging, you will not face negative consequences. That kind of stuff.

Oh and the pause when empty feature needs to unpause when a client joins a slot, not when they connect.

I also need to implement server groups, shared stats, mission voting, mission rotation... it's a long list.

ANYWAY, please keep up the suggestions, that's where I get a lot of my ideas. I wouldn't ask for suggestions if they didn't help me. It's just that the suggestions you suggested... well, I've already got stuff like that planned.

Hi Speed,

Can you add something to the Chat Logs? If possible, I'd like a Server Shut Down time/date stamp? This would be a simple entry that gives the time and date of when the server stopped serving, either due to a manual Disconnect or manual Exit or an unexpected shut down like a DCS Stopped Working error. Hmm, I guess the type of shutdown would also be helpful.

Thanks for Slmod. Eno ^^^ and I are sharing the Ban file for use on on our two servers.

WC

A server shut down time stamp is only possible for normal application termination. There is no way to tell if a CTD is coming and to print something to the log. Once the CTD hits, everything shuts off, it's like DCS takes a bullet to the head, so to speak, so how can I write anything to a log then? There would have to be a separate process running that monitors the DCS.exe process and writes to the log when DCS dies an unnatural death, and that is not worth the time it would take to program. However, like a said, time stamp on normal server termination is very easy.

Kind of having issues with SLMod/Servman3 (Non-Official Servman3 Update) - And my last attempt was disabling the SLMod Servman Edition... I suspect Servman issues, but maybe someone in here has suggestions.

Disabled all Mods in JSGME, disabling SLMod first, Servman second.. enabling Servman first.. and enabling SLMod second, due to the lua "dependency", i.e. SLMod's Servman-Lua usage.

Anyways.. All should be the same, since I use JSGME and it worked perfectly before 1.2.3, plus I disabled the mods before autopatching.

Can someone please add the server administration commands? couldn't find them in the guide.

Thanks

EDIT -

NVM, found the -admin command.

I suggest adding the basic administration commands to the guide or to the main message so we won't have to search for it or bother with this question

I need to see dcs.log to get an idea what your issues could be. It will probably tell me straight-up what the problem is.

Also, there is a thread floating around somewhere about how to make Servman work correctly. Check either the multiplayer section or the multiplayer server administration section.

Yes, already ahead of you in that regards in version 7. The default server MOTD in version 7 has a listing of all the commands, and there is also a help menu accessed with "-help". Also, I've put in a lot of hours on the manual. I still have a ways to go on it though - the new additions to the manual will probably add 10-15 pages... the final version of the Slmod v7 manual will probably be like 60 pages

Thanks for the replies above, Speed.

Can I get a simple example of how to use the Aircraft In Zone from Slmod? I have a zone that is used to activate a Red ship group when Blue enters the zone. But I only want a Blue aircraft to cause the trigger to fire, because I want to have a Blue ship already in that zone.

Does this use the Expression Trigger? I really don't know how to code this, but hope a simple example will turn on the bulb. Is it possible? I thought I saw this capability of detecting an a/c in a zone.

Thats more of a Mist function.

You could use the unit table feature and check if any of the valid units are within a zone. Granted the "inside/outside" of zone stuff within scripting is a little math oriented, but its pretty straight forward.

The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world.

Hi Speed,

I have a BannedClients.lua. Can I simply comment out one of the entries in the IP section along with the corresponding entry in the UID section to deactivate those records?

All I need to do is put a '--' in front of the two lines?

Just delete the whole line and maybe copy those ones out into another notepad ++ file (in case you come to realize the names were there for a reason- cough cough.)

So delete the IP line and the UCID line as well...

Why not just cut out the entry and paste it into another file? You can always paste it back in.

Be sure to back up your ban lists before you modify them manually though. Otherwise, if you mess something up, you'll lose your whole ban list.

I have a second account that I will use to test the comment question...

Actually I have access to three Client accounts on my machines - Wrecking Crew, Jette and raven, the last two are on my second computer.

I wanted to test if I could give a guy a second chance from the Ban list by commenting out his two entries - the IP and the UID.

I found that putting in '--' in front of the '[' did not work - after the sim started the two commented lines were removed from the file. That was a bit of a surprise. I moved the two entries, IP and UID, in the next test down to the respective end-of-section comments, onto new lines, but when I tested this idea with my Clients they still were banned; like they were not commented out, even though they are past the closing }. I don't know how comments are spossed to work in Lua, which was really my original question.

The REALLY ODD thing is now I find that Wrecking Crew and Jette share the same UID! I can connect both machines to my Hollo Pointe server simultaneously, and do some chat stuff to capture their details, and both have the same UIDs.

I had Banned Jette but then WC could not connect. I deleted the IP line from the Banned Clints.lua and still WC could not connect - it was after that I suspected that both accounts have the same UID. I have the chat log that shows this.

---> edit All calmed down now :music_whistling: UIDs have to be associated with the account and not the individual installations under the account.

I've just disabled the SLMod 6.3 on our server.

The reason is that it got alot of people connection interupted, right after disabling the mod everything worked fine, there were no more connection interupted errors.

We were around 9-12 users in the server.

Any news about version 7?

I'm not sure what is the problem exactly with 6.3 and 1.2.3 but it's definetly the SLMod that got everyone disconnected with that error.

Yes, it's really helpful

One thing I though about though: You oftentimes have players with cyrillic letters or other special characters in their names. With that, it's pretty much impossible with a western keyboard to kick or ban them.

So my thought would be, if it is possible to add a similar menu to kick and ban as there is for load.

Example:

-admin kick

To kick player "Goose", type -kick 1

To kick player "Обсуждение", type -kick 2

Thanks for creating and maintaining this tool!
