Hi Guys

I have noticed something weird which i never had in BS1. I was shooting on an enemy about 6,7 KM away with about 12 m/s wind from 089. So my Vikhr crashed into ground after about 1-2 km. I dont know why. I have attached a track of this flight.

Hope someone can tell me what iam doing wrong.

Thanks

Best regards

Yes Laser was on.

I have now flew the same mission again. On my first two targets in this flight i could shoot without any problem. But the last one was unable to hit. I flew from about 7.1 km to 2 km close and shooted 10 Vikhr without any hit. I have attached a track of this second try.

Where was the lock? Did you lock the top of the vehicle or the bottom?

I find it has less chance of hitting the ground if I lock the top.

Also always use the smallest lock window it works best.

I used the smallest lock window, also i locked it in the middle of the enemy. Well the vikhr just not hitted the ground for near the target. It just flew 2-3 km and than crashed into ground. Its hard to describe. Best would be you look into the tracks.

I think it's the wind. Cannot see how that 12m/s as those smokestacks are hugging the ground - almost like a hurricane that is :D

In any event, I'll tinker a wee bit later if and see what I can come up with if no-one else solves the issue in the interim.

You mean like a parbolic trajectory after it leaves the rail right?

Yeah i think that this could descripe what happened.

In the second track i have uploaded i have shoot 2 targets before and this fault hasn´t occured. Only on my last target i was not able to hit it. The vikhr flew 1-2 seconds and then, well, i think it lost its target or something like that and changed the course straight into the ground.

I think that this is the third or fourth mission on the new campaign "operation medvedev II".

12 m/s windspeed are 43,2 km/h.

Ok - had a wee look:

Your wind-speed in that cyclone was according to your instruments 93km/h:

As a consequence, when you lined up for your Vihkr-launch, your entire aircraft was offset from the target by a large-enough margin to ensure that the Vikhr, when launched, will never be able to intercept the laser-cube/grid being projected. The sensors on the Vikhr tail accordingly picked up no energy after launch and the missile went stupid/ballistic.

As you can see from the pic, your nose is offset low and to the right of the intended target.

I took control immediately after the Vikhr near-impact to the building in your track, toggled auto-hover off and set the weapon control switch to manual due to the wind. Then lined up the nose of the Helo with the target and launched:

Note how the sensors on the nose of the copter align with the target. Impact:

Herewith also attached find your track. As said, I took control after your first launch, compensated as above and destroyed target.

That seems to be the only issue - hope that helps.

Ok have tried this with manual launch and putting nose and target in one line. The first Vikhr i shooted also missed but auf putting the helo a bit more to the right i was able to hit.

So thank you very much Viper, i have learned a lot :-)

I had this happen to lots of my vhikrs the other day, maybe it was windy, I also had more luck when I switched to manual release mode.

So I reread the manual and have successfully used Vikhrs in Manual mode on some longer range shots... However, I really do not know what I am giving up or doing when I switch to Manual. I make sure everything is lined up as best as possible and use the nose-sensors-on-target approach that is mentioned above. I usually launch the Vikhr then switch immediately back to Auto as it rides the beam down. I also compensate for some variables, e.g. if a bit out of range, I will climb a few hundred meters in alt.

But in reality, what all do you have to compensate for? Can someone explain it in detail? To this point I chalk it all up as luck.

Thanks

Are you referring to the compensation when switching to manual?

If so, it's basically just to get your nose/laser grid cube on target. The WCS cannot adequately compensate for the strong winds - as a consequence any launch of a Vikhr will miss the grid completely and go stupid.

That is all you compensate for - you ensure the Vikhr pod and the laser grid are aligned/pointing to the target - nothing more.

Doesn't seem to be the case here, but if your AA targeting button in on the missile explodes before it hit the target, kinda a area blast effect for airborn targets. For some reason my AA button randomly decides to turn on and waste my vihkers.

Sounds like a HOTAS issue of some sort. You're accidentally hitting "v" somehow.

I've noticed in BS2 that I get the "C" permission to fire cannon and rockets even when target is way off centre. I have it in Auto and in BS1 I only got the "C" when the targeting computer allowed me.

This results in me looking in shkval thinking I have satisfied launch parameters and fire, only to see the rocket head down to the ground

Seems weird behavior to me.

Similar here - Cannon and Rockets, Missiles do just fine.

I simply ignored it (i.e. didn't fire) as the clearance was given under obviously incorrect(inappropriate conditions.

Hi guys

Enjoying the conversation and learning a lot, but I do have to ask one slightly off-topic question: Is it possible to take control of the AC (like mentioned above) while watching a track? Even someone else's track?

How does one go about doing that? ?????

When watching track press Escape and then click control. Done. This works for any track and has done since LockOn.

Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing
