Wichid Posted November 17, 2011 Posted November 17, 2011 I've been playing with water on high and now just switched so medium. I think it looks a lot better... anyone else agree? kylania Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 When I worked in food service my manager always said "Got time to lean, got time to clean!" So I imagine water works on that same principle. "Got time to look at buildings reflections in the lake, got time to put 30mm rounds into the top of a tank!" Thats flawed logic, I can do all of that at the same time. Weta43 Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 Personally - I always preferred the old flat matt 'low' water (makes me feel more at home - when I look out my window at the sea here in Wellington it's never still & shiny - it's usually got whitecaps, and often got sheets of spray rolling across it :-) Cheers.
XarBat Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 So what is the difference between medium and low water?
cichlidfan Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 So what is the difference between medium and low water? Kula66 Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 I prefer the medium ... water just isn't that shiny 99.999% of the time!
Mustang Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 Agreed, medium setting is the best for framerates and looks.
bluepilot76 Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 (edited) I just put mine on low. I spend 6 months of the year on boats, and can count on one hand the number of times I have seen DCS water. Its not worth the performance hit so I keep it on low. I think the water in COD looks good. Ideally it would change with the weather too. Edited November 18, 2011 by bluepilot76 Technical Specs: Asus G73JW gaming laptop... i7-740QM 1.73GHz ... GTX460m 1.5GB ... 8GB DDR5 RAM ... Win7 64 ... Megagoth1702 Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 Medium & Low look pretty much the same, Low has better performance and given the fact that water even gets rendered under the terrain if you are NOWHERE near the sea it's better for performane to have it on "low". LiveBait Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 (edited) I agree with Weta43, I work on the water and the High settings are unrealistic. Large volumes of water are rarely still enough to show reflections that clearly. If only those reflections were related to wind speed (0kts) in the ME ? I just set mine from high to low and lost 4FPS http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=68060 says to try this as some report an increase in fps with higher water settings..... go figure? EDIT: Ahh, memory isn't what it used to be... above link states possible increase in fps in relation to shadows NOT water... my bad... thanks galagamo Edited November 20, 2011 by LiveBait wrong info 1
