I have had a track clip pro since they first came out and it is still the same one:thumbup:, it has not broken but it has been modded using a micro heli battery and a little now how it is fully wireless;)

just like my headphones its connected to:smilewink:.

i run a track ir3 and have not had any reason to think about upgrading to a 4 or 5, if pc kinect gives us more without taking too much cpu or gpu power then i will look and see if its worth the cost:smartass:, all i see on this thread is a lot of ifs and buts, truth is we dont know what it will be like till it gets here, so have fun flying:pilotfly: with what you got and RELAX..:D

AMD A8-5600K @ 4GHz, Radeon 7970 6Gig, 16 Gig Ram, Win 10 , 250 gig SSD, 40" Screen + 22 inch below, Track Ir, TMWH, Saitek combat pedals & a loose nut behind the stick

Will be good to see how this developes, I am currently using Freetrack with a homemade clip and a ps3 eye camera, it works great but would love to see kinect working at its full potential in DCS

Me too Cali ! But I'll appreciate any device not based on my head !

Not a big deal to wear a hat or mic. This will only make the price go down (maybe) and it get better in the future. :)

Bye-Bye Stone Age of Track-IR.

First things fist, I see a load of hype but nothing tangible atm.

xbox kinect is a year old now, where are all the cool games promised? Star Wars... did you see the demo vid in June... it looked terrible.

I like the idea of kinect but I'll believe it when I see it living upto the hype.

So, registering on this forum, just to post a reply. To address some of your concerns about the crappiness of kinect :-)

Here is the kinect head tracking "toy demo" (NOTE: That kinect for windows exists now):

Also, I know this isn't really a "flight simulator" - but after trying "Dance Central", I am completely convinced that Kinect is a viable, state of the art piece of technology.

...and when you play Dance Central :megalol: do you ever feel Kinect isn't tracking your swagger too well?

It may well be the future but I haven't seen it work well yet nor have I seen anything but peoples experiments targeted for people over the age of 18.

TrackIR is not dead until Kinect actually delivers what it promises to the public, maybe thats coming in the next few months maybe not. The point is to say TrackIR is now dead is utter rubbish with bad odour and flies. You might as well say Xbox is dead because a new model is due to be announced next year.

True. The algorithms that Kinect has to use are far more complex and ressource-intensive compared to the target tracking that TrackIR uses.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

Agreed!... TIR also has a robust user base that I'm sure will see to the continued sales and development of TIR6 and beyond.

I know that I will be getting a Kinect for PC, and if it happens to replace my TIR4, then so be it. I'm already trying to figure out where to mount the kinect... difficult because its a large peripheral.

Just bought a kinect for one of the kids Christmas gifts, I'll see how it works in a few days.

Well i don`t know, this is little strange to me, i prefer to hold my Dickinson in my hands when i am pissing in WC, can you imagine that u don`t need to handle nothing in your hand(except if there is a woman and holding him :) ), where the fuk this future is going to man

"...suggested retail price of US $249..."

I always considered trackir expensive as hell, but it seems in the light of kinect I will have to change my mind...

On the other side, SDK is free and devs do not have to pay for license. This might speed up developing of games having kinect-support...

If Kinect is implemented well for DCS-A10 it could be amazing. We could use hand gestures when using switches in the cockpit instead of using a mouse.

I tried using a kinect but it didn't work very well and I got a very sore neck.

It seems to be alot heavier than my track clip pro... ;)

Get a good hat to mount the kinect on your head. That helps a lot.

Nice thing about current version of Kinect is that it also works on Linux and Mac. Unlike TrackIR with their draconian licensing policies and deliberate obfuscating of the data stream to prevent third-party integration libraries from working with it. I hope TrackIR dies and is replaced by Kinect - since the latter is more liberal in how *we* might like to use it. That will be justice for Naturalpoint.

What has that got to do with anything? Would you find it ok if joystick manufacturer X would start to use an interface that only licensed games can use, and then threatened to cancel the license if any other joysticks were supported? That's exactly what NaturalPoint did. Thank god these times are gone. Does NP still make money off their TIR segment? They certainly do, so the world did not end. Big whoop. Now let's get back to talking about the Kinect.
