Spetz Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 PN = Proportional Navigation - Essentially the guidance laws the missile uses to anticipalte where the aircraft will be, and meet it there. Latex - The amount of combined G forces the missile can accumulate before running out of maneuverablitly. For example, a missile with a Latex of 50 G's can maneuver 10 times with a 5 G turn before it departs "controlled" flight. On the other hand, if the pilot that is targeted knows what missile is being fired, he (or she :) ) can theoritically do combined turns that will have a higher Latex than the missile, and defeat it (if he has time).

MeerCaT Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 Absolutely not!...Lives are always more important than money. I couldn't agree with you more. I totally support the money that is spent in the armed services for the preservation of allied lives. (The legitimacy and ultimate purpose of various conflicts aside...FIRMLY aside! So far aside that they have slipped off the end of this obviously flat earth) Without knowing a thing about life in the armed services I can pretty confidently guarantee that some money is being what could be considered as 'wasted', but I don't begrudge those small amounts. All workplaces everywhere have some degree of wastage and that's fine. It's all part of living in an imperfect human environment. Even in my cosy, non-life threatening, air conditioned office I can see that money is being wasted in places. Hell, I'm employed for a start! Eddie, I suspect...it was somewhat "tongue in cheek" Blue, you get me man! I could cry. (Or poop. I'm not sure which; one invariably leads to the other) Note to self: push tongue through cheek next time, not just into cheek.
bluepilot76 Posted December 6, 2011 Author Posted December 6, 2011 Well folks thanks for sharing your lucky numbers! I tried a few last night, a continuous drip feed which seemed quite good but I was still getting shot down now and again, that was 016 I also was trying to only use the side that faced the threat. Thats great as long as you remember to check you havent run out. Then I tried just dumping a ton whenever someone definately fired on me. 147. That seemed quite effective. too. At least more effective than the 512. My favorite evasive manoevre is to massively side slip (keeping nose on target) whilst descending out of sight and leaving a cloud of flares in the wake. That seems quite effective from the hover-sniper positions. Sometimes I ust dont see them coming untill too late. That warning thing is RUBBISH. I think my grandma could have come up with something more effective than that, if she had put her mind to it, and her expertise was more cakes, tea, ham and peas pudding. So that means the missile can enter one 5G turn and continue to circle indefinately? :D Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!

It's a LWS, if you're not being lased, it's gonna do diddly squat for you. They didn't have MWS in the 80ies. I'd like to see your grandmas approach to the matter though. Maybe you could have her fling rolling pins at inbound heaters.;) Edited December 6, 2011 by sobek Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!
Bucic Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 (edited) As I said before there is no better source regarding use of UV-26 than that topic UV-26 programs -- go through it post by post especially the Frederf's test results. bluepilot76 Posted December 6, 2011 Author Posted December 6, 2011 Thanks Bucic, I will check it. Viper - I meant the LWS (Thanks Sobek! the name had escaped my mind) It is a bit rubbish, I mean 4 sensors, Front, Back , Left or Right. or maybe 8 since it must have top and bottom ones, but not a great deal of directional info is there? The mission I have been flying involves a rogue enemy chopper coming in. LWS says front. Well thats a big section of sky! Its only because I have flown it about 30 times that I know where hes coming from. Technical Specs: Asus G73JW gaming laptop... i7-740QM 1.73GHz ... GTX460m 1.5GB ... 8GB DDR5 RAM ... Win7 64 ... Luigi Gorgonzola Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Check the hemispheres betwen the four red dots, they tell you if you're being lazzzzed from above or below (noticed the zzzzzz? sound of teh evil, I assume). Additionally, there are indicators that might show you if you're lscked already or not (but that might depend on the grandma ;)) It doesn't drag your nose onto the attacker but can give you a pretty valuable clue about its direction.
159th_Viper Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 ........It is a bit rubbish, I mean 4 sensors, Front, Back , Left or Right. or maybe 8 since it must have top and bottom ones, but not a great deal of directional info is there? What more info do you need? If that warning gets triggered, it means that whatever is lasing you is within weapons-range. It's not an indication for you to start searching the piece of Sky in front of you...........It's your cue to start running, ergo if the front sensor lights up, run backwards: If the left lights up, run right etc etc. Oh yes - save yourself the agony and do not dump flares as you run whilst you are being lased.........might as well strap a large bulls-eye to you A$$ :P Novice or Veteran looking for an alternative MP career? bluepilot76 Posted December 6, 2011 Author Posted December 6, 2011 Well I was rather hoping to stand and fight! If I run away every time the bloomin thing goes off I might as well send my grandma and her rolling pin out there to protect the convoy / kill the enemy chopper/ destroy a milion SAM sites, save the civilians..etc etc. There is aprize for the first person to guess the mission! Anyway to bring this back OT. Some of you are doing clever things like reprogramming your cougars to rapidly change between a 016 and a 442 or whatever. That sounds a little bit like cheating to me? Or has the mighty BS got some sort of fast program change like the jolly old Hog? Technical Specs: Asus G73JW gaming laptop... i7-740QM 1.73GHz ... GTX460m 1.5GB ... 8GB DDR5 RAM ... Win7 64 ... bluepilot76 Posted December 6, 2011 Author Posted December 6, 2011 Actually the chopper has only got me once or twice. Either myslef or my trusty wingman or some genius on the ground with a friendly SAM will take him out. It is one of the hundred SAM sites in the valley that has got me the other 28 times. Think I might try a simpler one, its all getting a bit Sonic the Hedgehog. Technical Specs: Asus G73JW gaming laptop... i7-740QM 1.73GHz ... GTX460m 1.5GB ... 8GB DDR5 RAM ... Win7 64 ... TIR5 ...
