vegachavez Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 I am about to download DCS Warthog A-10 and not quite sure if I should download the files as FTP or HTPP. What is the difference between the two and which would you recommend to download. THANKS.
vegachavez Posted December 20, 2011 Author Posted December 20, 2011 If it`s only a question of speed.. I think I will use HTPP. If you were downloading the Wart which would you use? thanks.
PeterP Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 none of them - I use always the torrent. - no need to reload if the connection is discontinuous an also immune against file corruption.
Laurius Posted December 20, 2011 Posted December 20, 2011 Hi there, just to give my two cents, I think it depends a lot on where you are and the kind of internet connection you have. If I may speak of my own case, I've just used FTP yesterday to fully download the 1.1.1.1 version (4 files). I have tried both FTP and HTTP (USA or GERMANY) and apparently FTP was much faster (Germany since I'm in France but I don't know what choice is let to others). I have downloaded the 4 files in less than 2 hours (strange things occuring with the .exe download though, but ignore...). Fresh full instal looks fine to me after flying a couple of SP missions. Although I like Steam very much, I'm glad I've left yesterday since Steam appears to not update this wonderfull sim anymore. winz Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 Between HTTP and FTP allways use FTP for file transfer, it's the thing that protocol was designed for. HTTP is less efficient in file transfer. The Valley A-10C Version Revanche for FC 3
LostOblivion Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 (edited) Today, whether you decide using HTTP or FTP does not matter at all when it comes to transferring big files, as they are both directly limited to the TCP/IP-implementation on modern operating systems. Having said that, FTP is an obsolete protocol, which is being phased out slowly in favour of mostly HTTP, as well as hugely the torrent protocol for end point users. HTTP also supports native compression agreements between client and server, which leads to less bandwidth usage, but is rarely used afaik. FTP is mostly used today for server file maintenance. Inseckt Posted December 21, 2011 Posted December 21, 2011 hm, considering the last to statements by winz an lostoblivion, I think one of them is trying to fool us so that when the next patch/release comes, so that there will be no one using their favorite protocol...:D Torrent is actually best anyways, and will only be a better alternative the more who use it as long the leacher number dont wildley outnumber the seeds;) Help Beczl with his DCS MiG-21Bis project by Pre-Ordering DCS MiG-21Bis module NOW! LostOblivion Posted December 22, 2011 Posted December 22, 2011 Does my post seem biased towards HTTP? I did not mean to, in fact I use torrent as well. Nice plane on that gun... OS764 P930@4 MBUD3R M6GB G5870 SSDX25 CAntec1200 HTMHW
