Tornado_Pilot Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 Hey folks. Just got my Thrustmaster Warthog for Christmas and MAN, this is one piece of a weapon. Never got a Stick that is so well made, and just feels "right" in your hand plus adding the ability of making super fine control inputs on both the stick and the throttle, to give you the precision you need to fly the A10. Had a lot of tutorials back in my head and now i can dive into LGB delivery, JDAMS and **** yeah, even Air to Air. Just shot down my first SU25...got damaged by Sidewinder, got finished by GAU 8.... **** yeah, im proud of myself. It just get's so intuitive after a while... i always enjoy the controllability and the quality of this product. Just wanted to share... Keep 'em burning Chris 1
agrasyuk Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 enjoy. WH is quite something else :) Anton. My pit build thread . Simple and cheap UFC project
hassata Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 Congrats! Don't forget to update to the latest firmware. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Tornado_Pilot Posted December 28, 2011 Author Posted December 28, 2011 Why is that so important? Does it fix any major bugs? Cuz, i don't have any Problems with my HOTAS so far.
Phantom453 Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 Hi all, My good lady and daughter threw in for my Birthday (22 Dec) and Christmas and I got a set of TM Warthogs too. A very happy and spoilt boy I am. Wow - they are heavy!! I also had to modify my desk to take them with a larger and more heavy duty slide out keyboard shelf. They feel great!! I’m still getting use to the sensitivity and different profile/ button assignments after having the Saitek X52 for many years. I also had quite a curve on set the X52's in a vain attempt to conquer AAR. After many months of practice I got close but never quite cracked a full AAR with only one connect - never mind at night or while the tanker was turning. At the moment, while I am getting use to them, I have left the Warthogs set in the default game profile settings (fixed the POV/ Trim switch as I have a Tack IR). For the other TM Warthog users out there, I have a few questions please: 1. Do you set a X/Y curve at all (especially for AAR)? If so, how much for each X & Y? 2. What do you have the other keys assigned to do - paddle switch etc. 3. When you assign these other buttons, have you used Target to do it or assigned them through the game? What is best to achieve this? I guess I am looking at thing like NVG functionality, possibly landing gear, Track IR centre etc. Thanks for your advice, Paul
statrekmike Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Hey Phantom, looking to sell that X-52?
Phantom453 Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Hey Phantom, looking to sell that X-52? Sorry Statrekmike. Already gave them to my brother - hoping to encourage him into the DCS world.
hassata Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Why is that so important? Does it fix any major bugs? Cuz, i don't have any Problems with my HOTAS so far. The conventional wisdom is that there are fewer to no issues (including bricking) with latest firmware, and updating is now usually done straight out of the box. Here is a good cheat sheet: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1135221&postcount=1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Leto Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 (edited) @Phantom453: 1.: I fly a curvature of "30" for both, X and Y. "15" for rudder. You will notice that all formation flying (AAR is nothing else) will be a lot easier. 2.: I assigned the paddle as a modifier. For example the cooliehat on joystik which is normally the trim at my configuration is then by pressing the paddle: up="NVG on" left="NVG brightness decrease" right="NVG brightness increase" down="trim neutral" I also assigned gear up/down, anti coll. lights, pitot heat, landing light, next/prev waypoint, gun pac/safe, teamspeak push to talk... on other paddle+button on the HOTAS. 3.: Did not use TARGET software, all assigned in game. kylania Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 (edited) 1. Yup, something like 22 each I think. 2. Paddle is set to TO Trim. Mic Up is set to TeamSpeak. Left Throttle Button is set to Gear Toggle. 3. Never installed TARGET, don't need it. Other than some toggle switches above the APU switch there isn't really anything you don't use on the Warthog that you could assign to anything like NVGs or TIR Center. Since I so rarely use those I just stick with the keyboard for them. Gear however I did map to the button I mentioned above. Really the main benefit of the Warthog is that you don't need to remap anything. That's very satisfying. :) Edited December 29, 2011 by kylania [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Christmas Cheer - A Landing Practice Mission : Beta Paint Schemes : HOTAS Keyboard Map : Bingo Fuel - A DCS A-10C Movie
Phantom453 Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Leto & kylania - thank you for you advice. I'll give those points a go. hassata - thanks for the cheat sheet. That will really help as I still have my X52 profile burned into my brain.

I remapped the original Friction Slider to my Rudders, because i don't own any pedals yet and I need the rudders just for taxiing, take off and landing.
agrasyuk Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 ...Left Throttle Button is set to Gear Toggle... i really like the default autopilot toggle assigned on that button... Anton. My pit build thread . Simple and cheap UFC project
macedk Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Had the cougar and bought the WH straight away. Never thought they would gbring out a new stick after it sounded like the cougar didn't live up to sales specs. wolfstriked Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Would it be crazy to think that Thrustmaster has plans to bring out a new stick with each DCS release?? Shootist Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Damn! $400 + tax at Best Buy here. I could buy it but would find it hard playing the game living out of my truck. The Saitek x52 is $209. Tempting. Anyone know if it's worth it? Asus P8P67Pro, Intel i7, 8gb DDR3, OCZ Vertex3, 120gb SSD, GForce GTX 560, Cooler Master GX850, Win 7, Logi X 3D Pro.

Tempting. Anyone know if it's worth it? Saitek X-52, even Pro, should be cheaper than that. However the Warthog is $200 better than the Saitek and totally worth playing from your truck. That said the X-52, especially Pro, is a really solid stick and will last you years. But for flying A-10C there simply isn't anything better than the Warthog - flying with the Warthog is a completely different and improved experience over any other HOTAS. kylania Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Wasn't available on Canada's Amazon page, but the US Amazon page has a Pro for $150. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Christmas Cheer - A Landing Practice Mission : Beta Paint Schemes : HOTAS Keyboard Map : Bingo Fuel - A DCS A-10C Movie
agrasyuk Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 i do not see why pay the price premium for the pro version. same construction (minus the sensor positioning mod) adds almost nothing of real value. 200? 150? thats crazy, original x52 can be had for 70-80$ on ebay/craiglist. and thats IMHO the fair price for that piece of plastic. with that , as many others here, i can't imagine anything other then WH. my x52 long gone to a friend Anton. HiJack Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 .. i can't imagine anything other then WH. my x52 long gone to a friend How is the WH in other sims like FC2 and Ka-50 compared to X52 Pro? (HJ)
kylania Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 Works great for me in BS2. In ArmA 2 I have a lot more control over helicopters and planes. My only complaints are that I haven't found the sweet spot with the throttle (I still have more control with QZ for example) and while I have better control flying in helos, like I think about it and it does what I wanted to happen, I don't feel like I have the same control over pitching up to slow down for example.
