hog_driver111th Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 I thought that DCS was about accurately modelling combat aircraft. The P-51D will be a very nice addition, moddeling aspects of flight currently not addressed in the series. Since the thread is about a map for the mustang, it only shows purpose that we talk about the possibility of there being a WWII area map instead of life only taking place in the Crimean. Granted Nevada will add something for the modern aircraft, but it would be great to see a European or Pacific map for the Legends only. It doesn't need to be anything big either. To comment on something you said though... "DCS was about accurately modelling combat aircraft"... ? What do you think the Mustang is, just something for us to fly around in? The Mustang was one of the greatest combat aircraft ever built and still flying today after 70 years (albeit seriously expensive). sobek Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 That sounds good Sobek! I hope we can start getting some new sceneries soon after Nevada. I hope that is what's going to happen. AFAIK, e.g. Batou is just waiting for the new tools to continue on his afghanistan map. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Use punctuation, save lives!

Hog, don't get me wrong: as I said I think the Mustang is a very nice addition, and I would completely agree with you about its merits! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

No worries T. It was also meant for anyone else that thinks that ED is making it just for a show. I personally think it's a great idea. As for the map, I wonder if those with the know can make up a pacific theater map. Obviously nothing huge, but... I don't know... Hawaii for Pearl Harbor, or Midway Island? Doing a European theater might be easier since we're close to there now... but doing the island hopping from dirt strips would be cool like back in the 40s. Excuse my ignorance. Is a map editor available for DCS? MAC
sobek Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Excuse my ignorance. Is a map editor available for DCS? Not per se. DCS terrain has to be generated with plugins from ED for 3d studio. Those for the old terrain engine are freely available, however, tools for the new terrain engine have not been released. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Come let's eat grandpa! Would be nice to know one way or the other if those tools will every be released, if they are going to be released then I would imagine someone would be planning a zone more known to have seen the P-51 flying over head :) Forum Rules • My YouTube • My Discord - NineLine#0440• **How to Report a Bug**
sobek Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Would be nice to know one way or the other if those tools will every be released As the engine is still in development, don't expect that to happen at least until nevada is released. Since however Wags himself acknowledged the intent of ED to better support 3rd party content creation publicly, the question is when rather than if. Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two. Well I guess my only question on that is what is meant by 3rd party? Is that actual 3rd party developers or is that general public? Just the little I have followed Nevada's development and then as we get closer to the new graphic engine I wonder if they will hold those tools closer to their chest and only release to people the want to, instead of a general public release. I guess I would just rather have them say its something they are planning or not, its never really mentioned in the road map, and never really clearly acknowledged, if you get my meaning :) Forum Rules • My YouTube • My Discord - NineLine#0440• **How to Report a Bug**

utexgrad Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 While understandable, I'm a little bummed that there won't be missions out of or over England, France and Germany. I hope they do end up releasing a map toolkit so we can make our own.
