If anyone's bored and wants a track to watch, here's me surviving a direct hit from a 9K38 MANPAD. I was flying the rescue mission from the original deployment campaign and I decided to escort him all the way home.

Halfway from pickup to Nalchik, some snake-eater who's been sitting on a hill for goodness-only-knows how long finally gets his opportunity and takes his shot. He misses the Mi-8 with his first shot, and then takes a second shot at me while I'm laying down some highly-inaccurate rocket fire. I saw the shot, popped flares, but stupidly didn't abandon my attack run.

I knew the missile hit SOMETHING because I heard the blast, but it wasn't until I watched the track that I realized what it hit was me, and it wasn't just a glancing blow; I took the missile full in the belly of my chopper.

I finished my opponent off with a few rounds of 30mm HE, and then headed home to Nalchik. When I landed there, I realized what damage had been done: I was missing my front wheel. I managed to get over to the parking area and shut down, and then the mission failed and the Mi-8 complained about taking fire (while sitting parked on the ground) and disappeared. Weird.

Anyway, the track might be a fun watch if you don't mind fast-forwarding the in-between transit time. Any comments? Anyone else take a shot full in the gut and notice virtually no ill effects?

Can't believe I survived that!.zip

when i did that one, the 8 got nailed by three from that snake eater before i took him out. somehow, the rescue bird still managed to get all the way back to nalchik, and landed three meters short of the runway, at which point i got the mission failed notice. but it still let me go on to the next mission, i think because i had got the success notice after the 8 lifted off with the pilot.

When flying the Narzan valley one I saw an Igla heading right for me in the Skhval. Too late too do anything it blew up right on the nose. I was expecting to start the plummeting and I recieved no damage at all. I was so happy. Even more happy when I unleashed my own missile right into his face.

Always remember. I don't have a clue what I'm doing

On this particular mission I even took 3 manpad hits, yet there was almost no damage to my chopper.

The "MISSION FAILED" message appears to be a common bug. Happened to me when the Mi-8 shut down, happened to a buddy of mine, happened to BeachAV8R, and we could all advance in the campaign without reflying the mission.

In that same mission, the Mi-8 took a couple of glancing hits, as did my wingman. I also got the mission failed message when he was landing (shaking all over the place as he did so), but was able to continue to the next mission. Odd, but I don't really care. The flying experience is more important. In fact I'd turn off the "mission success" and "mission failed" if I could.

It would be awesome if weapons had a very slight chance of not detonating... you might hear a bang, look around, and see an Igla lodged in your tail or near your exhaust outlet or something.... talk about "pucker factor" :D

Anyway, are we sure that when they editted the mission for Black Shark 2, they didn't accidentally turn on invincibility?

Intelligent discourse can only begin with the honest admission of your own fallibility.

I am so happy about the fact you were so happy, but I am also disappointed you didn't explode  :D

Hmmmmmm. Let me think about that one. :)
