From my initial investigations it looks pretty detailed... flying units with their own flight models. LOS calculations that take into account bushes and grass and an emphasis on tactical play.

I'd been keen to get your opinions before I plonk 30 notes on it. I was a big fan of World in Conflict, but it always lacked proper tactics... hope this might do it.

i bagged this. but too afriad to play the MP beta.

Its the basic strategy game ive been waiting an age for. i once said i like this game `Ruse` lots of interesting aspect etc. love the grand battle Table idea. but gimme modern warfare, remove the army stacking and especially remove the stupid Ruse based gameplay and im sold. And by all accounts this is what they have done and a bunch more. A no brainer infact, which is why it now exists. no game is or has everything you want but WEE does have alot for me and ive been searching for along time. WiC was the last but just didnt cut it. It is very concise in presentation using realistic modern symbolisation as its basis to deliver information which is just brilliant. Graphics are splendid all though very basic. And playing it is rather straightforward compared to alot of other strat games, micro managing being my most hated attribute in strategy, WEE does alow it but also it does not depend on it by initial appearances. but i maybe wrong as theres an statistical entry for "Actions Per minuite"- ohh heck.

It sounded cool until that last bit. Still might have to give it a closer look.

they should redo their vehicle models. they look embarrassingly amateurish.

the landscape engine looks quite good and has a nice view distance.

as for realism, tactical play falls apart when i see things doing crap they shouldn't be doing.

Ruse had me hooked for a while although I never went MP with it as I fear I would have been obliterated.

This new game looks good... I will wait till the price drops though.

indeed ! i dont let that worry me though as ill only really have private thoughtfull matches, same in starcraf 2 etc etc. in a certain sense SC2 may have just ensured all strategy games have an "APM" statistic if you know what i mean. the units take time to respond under your action given which doesnt really make any sense tbh, i cant see that this APM counter means too much.

When it comes to APM and SC/SC2, watch how many of the higher players spam it. Even the AI does. Every time you see a character look left/right rapidly without being cornered - that's the AI spamming APM. Players clickety click to increase it too.

When used right, it's a good tool to see if your micro/macro skills are good, but when the baseline includes spam clicks, then it's negated and useless. Here's a sponsored player spamming his APM:

this needs some realistic weapon models, flight models, terrain physics. WEE is very much like the total war series in respect to its dynamics that ive mentioned. It is still very good though. but it needs that touch of mil-sim. i also think if we are to see anything of this ilk in future i must support there cause. if you can stand a more fluid modern total war-esque RTS game then this will suit.

EDIT: i plucked up the courage to online last night and what an excellent nights rts activity it was. this RTS is exactly what i want ! hooked iam.

I really like what I have seen so far of the game, BUT, it always BSODs on me (about 10-30 minutes into a mission), so I stopped playing for the time being and hope that the developers can fix this problem asap.

Oooh, that video makes it really tempting. Too many games, too little time - I've already pre-ordered ME3...

I suppose I'll try to make myself wait for some more gameplay videos (and the spare time to watch them :P ) before I decide, but yeah... this looks very interesting. (Just a shame it sort of competes for RTS-time, where SC2 is still hogging a lot since I can play it with a big bunch of friends that already have it.)

too many games yeah, but this just leapt above everything else requiring attention and it will probally stay there for ages (untill better or similar is released)

its got a balance to it that seems never ending in theory, its actually phenominal that they have created 361 RL relativly realistic units over 2 factions that actually play together well in a game format. in terms of scope too i reckon it beats SC2.

the ranked number 1 player is this chap Tigga. heres his live stream. makes for better watching than my television does.

getting a patch tonight to fix a few urgent issues, but what has been confirmed is comp stomp. thats coop v AI ! cant wait. modding tools also.

I admit, I fell for the temptation and bought it. Very interesting game - feels like a sort of spiritual successor to Close Combat.

Though, Ali Fish, that balancing you speak of there is not really comparative. I mean, comparing this type of RTS to SC2 is a bit like comparing Serious Sam 3 to ArmA 2. They don't quite do the same thing. (SC2 is more twitch, where each unit does a lot of damage very fast with lots of powerful abilities, so any miniscule balancing issue will have a massive impace very fast. The tempo is more sedate in this type of game, so what might otherwise have been classified as a balancing issue might never become apparent at all just on accord of that.)

I am still resisting but this is an example of why some of us have so many games on Steam.:P

i was reffering to the never ending forms of counter strategies on offer that are all well balanced.

there are soome deliberate imbalances though covering the nations individually. and faction wise PACT is quite a bit more basic than NATO in terms of multitides of unit abbilities. Which leaves units in the pact faction quite overpowered without using the crazy amount of combination counters on offer.

I feel strangely reminded of Sudden Strike when watching the vids. :)

yeh i get the same reminiscent memory too. but the trees dont blow up!!! you cant carve a path through the forrest. doh. ive been saying for a while that a sudden strike remake would be cool.
