Here you go - UTM/MGRS introduction.

Understanding is step one.

Next up is figuring out where to punch them into the computer in the aircraft. WarriorX put a tutorial together for that.

And don't hesitate to ask away if you have further questions.

Good luck! It might appear daunting at first but will all click together rather soon.

Seems difficult to find locations having no clue what this numbers mean!

“Seem” is the verb, “seam” is a noun. Use “seam” only for things like the line produced when two pieces of cloth are sewn together or a thread of coal in a geological formation.

I struggle with JTAC at the moment and mainly use the "red triangle" method.

A bug that you give JTAC the default loadout of munitions instead of what you actually have loaded annoys me still. With all of the realism of this sim only to have a bug like that annoys me greatly.

PS: I am a Spanish speaker so I still learn the English language daily.

Sotosev, honestly, its easy as pie.

Jtac gives you the target he wants you to hit, after he sends you data, you have a flashing red triangle.

Make TAD SOI

Use the cursor to slew on top of the red triangle, then TMS up Short to select it, then TMS up LONG to make it your SPI. (Sometimes just TMS up long works just fine).

Switch over to your TGP making it SOI, press CHina hat foreward long.

THere are your targets.

Profit?

are those the same keys as setting something on the TGP as SPI?

With TAD as your SOI:

1. Slew your cursor on your target (red triangle)

2. TMS UP Short (This will hook your target)

3. TMS UP Long (This will move your SPI to the target)

4. China hat forward long (This will slave ALL your sensors to your SPI)

win.

Yes, blind trust in technology is the way to go... sod understanding what is going on and how to do it manually.

What if the datalink fails?

If the JTAC doesn't have datalink capability? (Probably rather common IRL, especially when the waste products impact the ventilation system.)

If there's a digit input incorrectly into the datalink?

Pretty much.

On the TGP though you do not need to press TMS up short.

When the TGP is SOI and you press TMS up short, you switch between area mode and Point mode. The difference is that in point mode the camera is tracking pixels i guess, so it can lock on to a vehicle. However this is bad in this sim because if you are trying to target something at a farp, there is a major glitch where the TGP tracks the farp as a whole. So the TGP will snap to the middle of the FARP and will not let you select the vehicle or location you want.

So in those instances, or instances where the camera wont lock itself to a stationary vehicle, you can just use AREA mode. Its the same exact thing but it just does not go looking for anything to track like a vehicle, it wont snap on to anything, just the ground.

Now as for the TMS up LONG command, that is the command you use to set a SPI. Its the same for some other systems.

For example, you can make your HUD SOI, and if you use the cursor, you have the little box to move around (TD box i think?), so you can actually move that box around on the hud, and then TMS up LONG to set a SPI there.

Another way is through the TAD. JTAC send you info? No problem red triangle, select it with tms up short, then TMS up LONG and BAM its ur new SPI now.

You can do this with all the other things that are on the tad too. So any waypoint, markpoint, bullseye and friendly thats there, all you do it select it with tms up short first, then tms up long.

If you select a wingman or some flight guy from the tad, you will actually get a little box on the HUD that shows you exactly where they are. Its awesome, i have it shown in this video here:

Maybe I was mistaken.. In some single missions like "turkey shoot" and instant action "medium difficulty spring time Russia" The Jtac line I enter gives me a point 99 miles away. Is this a known issue? or am i screwing up?

I was unaware of the red triangle ill have to give that a try!! I Remember seeing it now.

You could also check out the JTAC 9 line tutorial I made in my signature. Just download it to your missions folder and have fun. Its an in cockpit training tutorial similar to those found in your training misisons.

That means that either you entered the coordinates wrong or your in 38T when you should be in 37T or vice versa. Speed made a mod to add 38T or 37T to the nine line. I'll try and find it for you.

For a practical color coded explanation. There's a doc link for a lower level more granular explanation.

It's a good thing that this is Early Access and we've all volunteered to help test and enhance this work in progress... despite the frustrations inherent in the task with even the simplest of software... otherwise people might not understand that this incredibly complex unfinished module is unfinished. /light-hearted sarcasm

-Bigfoot excellent tutorial thats how I was executing the 9line entry!!

-Ralfi Awesome video you put together it was quite helpful and solved my 9line displacement error!! But there is one problem. If Im playing a new mission I can only assume that the 9line 37/38T is correct until I find out otherwise. I enter all that stuff and find out there it needs to be for example 37T. Ive made a new WP (call it AAA) but If I attempt to correct the error and enter 37T no update is performed and I still have bogus data. Is there anyway to update the WP to correct for the error or must I create a whole new WP and make it 37T before hitting the "make new WP" button? (the later has been the only successful method so far or prior knowledge that it must be 37T off the bat)

Thanks

I think I found the answer thanks to Jona33 (talk about info overload)

However I would still like to know about the above question regarding updating a WP with 37 or 38T..can it be done.

Thanks again

I've copied this info (see quote below) from this forum. Cannot remember the original author.

37T and 38T = grid zones.

GG, KN etc = grid squares.

First character of the grid square designator should be all you need to determine if it is 37T or 38T. Before H in the alphabet - it's 37T. After H - it's 38T.

This is from memory, so I might have something slightly wrong, but:

Hit the WP button under the CDU. Select the waypoint menu option on the CDU. Now, using the CDU keypad, type in the number of the waypoint you want to edit, and then, at the (top left or top right corner of the CDU) hit the button that says ±X, where X is a number. X is the number of the waypoint you are currently editing in fact. So now, for example, if you want to edit waypoint 7, this field on the CDU should read ±7.

Now at the bottom left of the CDU, the two coordinate fields will show the coordinates of the selected waypoint. If you are in MGRS (and to switch, select the CDU option near the lower right that will say either "LL" or "UTM"), the top line will be "38T WGS84" (or "37T WGS84") and the bottom line should be your digraph square followed by ten digits. To change the UTM grid zone, all it should take is a simple edit of the top coordinate field; for example, if you want to switch from 37T to 38T, enter "38T" into the CDU scratch pad and then press the CDU button right beside where it says "37T WGS84", and it SHOULD switch to "38T WGS84".

I installed Speeds fix and it works great. Does it not work online?

It works locally on your computer only, both online and offline.
