question for the modding specialist:

any way to stop moving HUD in BS2 when i look around with TIR?

any way to adjust the position of the HUD?

thanks for help

the HUD isn't moving, your head is. head movement is simulated, and the way a HUD works optically, if you are not directly in-line with it, it will appear off-center.

If you stop the HUD from moving it would also stop being accurate aiming device. Collimator sights were developed so that you don't have to align front and rear sights before you know where the guns shoot but there's always only one sight that always shows the correct aiming point as long as you can see the sight. This is done by focusing the sight to infinity so as to make it appear to float at extreme distance. With some geometrical thinking you can figure out how this eliminates the need to align two sights to get accurate aim and why it follows your head movement. The HUD movement causes the aimpoint to be wrong the same amount as your head is away from the HUD center line but this error is the same for every distance. If the HUD is focused to 100m it has no aiming error at 100m but at 200m the aiming error is 2x and at 500m it's 5x. I don't know how to better explain this without drawing it and I just don't have the time to make that drawing. HUD is more complicated than a mere collimator sight but it is still collimated which is the reason for the behavior of the question.

Here's some more information that seemed helpful based on a quick glance.

Create a "Free Track" IR system and download Freetrack http://www.free-track.net/ and use a compatible webcam or if you really like the simulation buy Track IR http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/ and you will be able to move your head closer of the HUD and look around easily, if you really like the simulation its a really must have.

And when the simulator start strange thing happen, it start to unzooming and give bad effect, press Enter (on your num pad) and the zoom will return to normal setting and you will see a little better your HUD.

But you must do it with Free Track or Track IR for be able to move quickly your head into the front panel for see instruments, screens and other.

But we can't configure the HUD position in a fighter aircraft (maybe in certain WW2 aircraft only) you can only move up or down your seat in the case of the A10C for example.

You can disabled "head movement forced by G" in option, your head will stop to moving with the aircraft.

But the HUD don't move, the HID itself or the data show on it, that don't move, only your head move, its not adjustable.

ok - maybe some of you don`t understand me:)

i use "TIR" ! when i move forward, the HUD moves with me - away from me;)

when i zoom - the HUD stays on his place - ok

the point is - i adjust my "Cockpitview" as i like it - perfect for me!!!!!!

now i feel, i`m sitting in the cockpit:smilewink:

but the HUD looks as he is placed on the nose of the KA-50 and not in the classes in front of me.

my question - can i replaced the HUD that he comes a little bit to me.

maybe "Distance from the Cockpit_eyepoint" or so.

i look around many files and test different valued but nothing works for the HUD

What are doing "Cockpitbuilder" that the HUD is on the right place??? - that`s the big question!

hope now its clear:smilewink:

thanks for help

But that is what was explained - that's the collimation. Without this, you cannot use the HUD as an aiming aid for weapon deployment, sensor scan patterns etcetera.

"Collimation to infinity" means that the apparent distance of the hud is infinite.

my question - can i replaced the HUD that he comes a little bit to me.

maybe "Distance from the Cockpit_eyepoint" or so.

Doing this would, again, adversely affect it's utility. You would "break" the HUD, since you could no longer use it for it's intended combat utility.

The "solution", as you have already found, is to zoom. That's it. Anything else breaks the hud due to the collimation.

Uhm... I still think this is supposed to be so. When I move forward in the cockpit the HUD seems to be further away (it looks very small in the HUD screen). When you move back it takes up all the space.

Or do I miss your point now as well?

Exactly as it is supposed to be, and exactly as it has to be to be an aiming aid. That is the collimation - the HUD ensures it's symbology is always the same in respect to an object at infinite distance. When you move back and forth (or left and right etcetera) in the cockpit, note how the HUD symbology changes size and position with respect to the HUD screen - but not with respect to the terrain.

Get a Logitech G15 keyboard or similar or a programmable whatever-you-call-it (CH Products has one) and use the Ka-50's Options' Snapview that incorporates Left Windows button + Keypad numeral 5 will put the HUD right in your face, but you cannot zoom in or out. Man I love the Snapview features. I am not using TrackIR5 currently, though I do have it, just too much to learn. My older, slower PC, TrackIR5 took quite a frame-rate hit. I don't think this will be an issue with my new Alienware PC.

Another game I sometimes play me using TrackIR5, there is a way to temporarily disable the TrackIR5 if you have an empty button on your controller and use the game's HAT view keys as it is easier at times using the HAT views. I do not know if that can also be done in the two DCS aircraft, I have not tried it, yet.

The Warthog also has these 10 Snapviews features, though they are different views. I put the MFCDs right in my face, also.

Realize I am just getting into combat weapon systems on the Ka-50. I do not know yet if I can aim my weapons using the Snapview HUD.

Also, within the last 24 hours since I posted this, there are other views similar to the Snapviews that can be programmed using just one button. These views use Right Control button and the number-pad's numerals and these can be zoomed in and out prior to their use. I use both views as I have 18 programmable keys. And I figured out how to do a Macro as a one button Eject! on one of them, though this does not concern the HUD views. I play only in Ka-50 Sim mode; all the key possibilities are in Options/Controls.

As an aside, the BS2 1.1.1.1 version's NVG "H" key can still be nicely adjusted using the appropriate 4 keys combination and put on a single controller button per each. There is adjustment for high gain and separately for low gain, but it does not adjust as good as the versions before. I do believe ED is aware of this issue.
