Hansolo Posted May 25, 2015 Posted May 25, 2015 Welcome back Gremlin, Long time no see but I can see that you have been busy. I really like the idea with the Arduino's on ethernet. I did have similar setup running with MCP23017 on the DCS-BIOS experimental branch, where I just utilized this library ( http://docs.macetech.com/doku.php/centipede_shield) But haven't had time to look into it with the current DCS-BIOS version. Good to know you got it working. Looking forward to seeing more progress on your awesome pit  All the best Hans 132nd Virtual Wing homepage & 132nd Virtual Wing YouTube channel My DCS-BIOS sketches & Cockpit Album
Gremlin77 Posted May 26, 2015 Author Posted May 26, 2015 I will send the arduino sketch these days. If anyone has additional questions, no problem. visit my build thread Gremlin's A-10  http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=86916
Gremlin77 Posted July 4, 2015 Author Posted July 4, 2015 Sorry for not answering the last weeks. Had some hard days at work. But hopefully i will be able to reply my pms and send the promised arduino code for i2c devices and dcs bios. Btw i love this piece of software !!! But i also did some work on my projector setup. Changed the screen so a smaller size and nearer to the cockpit. And also replaced my three old 1024x768 projectors by two full hd projectors with 3500 lumen. The quality gain is really impressive. Have to send pics tomorrow. visit my build thread Gremlin's A-10  http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=86916
Mr_Burns Posted July 5, 2015 Posted July 5, 2015 He Gremlin, that Ardion/Ethernet setup has blown my mind, did you learn that from here or is that your sphere? I know nothing about that but wouldn't mind learning to move away from GGG controllers if necessary. Thanks
Gremlin77 Posted July 5, 2015 Author Posted July 5, 2015 Hi Mr Burns, The electronic part I found out myself by internet research. The whole I2C bus things and so on. Then started to make my own pcb's to make a kind off mass production for the needed inputs. At first, I made my own software to communicate between arduino and dcs. But now, using the great DCS BIOS interface, everything is much easier and much more stable. if u want to change to the Arduino side, i recommend u to use this interface. Its easy, either using ethernet or usb seriell, your choice. Hopefully I will find some time to start a new thread about using the I2C bus with the DCS BIOS interface. visit my build thread Gremlin's A-10  http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=86916
Gremlin77 Posted July 5, 2015 Author Posted July 5, 2015 Finally some pics of my current setup: Sorry for not having a perfect fit between the two projections in the middle. Have to readjust it in immersive. visit my build thread Gremlin's A-10  http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=86916

Mr_Burns Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 I would rather have stuck with the swimming pool......NOT!!!! That is awesome!

agrasyuk Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 How do you like the projected picture, Grem ? I tested benq1085 (borrowed from friend for a weekend ) . immersion is awesone even with one proj, but i just couldn't get over how washed out the image looked. Matter of compromise I guess. Anton. johnv2pt0 Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 Great looking sim! Do you have experience with real world HUDs? (I do). I'm curious if having the hud projected out in front and not where it would normally be is annoying. Or if there are any other problems associated with that. What's your opinion? Also, I'd be curious to know approx what you've spent on this so far. PM is fine if you want. Gonna move in a bit and am considering what type of pit setup I'll be building :) Oh, and one more question. Do you use TrackIR or fixed perspective?
Hansolo Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Also, I'd be curious to know approx what you've spent on this so far. Are you sure you really want to know? I mean Gremlin77 bought a Tornado cockpit in the UK and got it transported to Germany  Cheers Hans 132nd Virtual Wing homepage & 132nd Virtual Wing YouTube channel My DCS-BIOS sketches & Cockpit Album

Matter of compromise I guess. I don't think it is a matter of compromise Anton. I think you will find that the washed out look is relative to the amount of external lght bleed you have in the viewing area. However, the quality of the projector and the quality of the screen greatly influence this as well. I have a totally blacked out room with a 120" diagonal screen. The resulting image is as vibrant and rich as the image quality from the 27" monitor I use for photo editing. Even the lower end projectors will provide really good picture quality if the viewing area is devoid of all external light. agrasyuk Posted July 8, 2015 Posted July 8, 2015 The benq 1085 is a well known and reviewed with good scores. I'm not sure of screen brand or specs, it is a proper and recent motorized projection screen however, not bedsheet or wall . There was some ambiance light , but overall it was quite dark in that room... I'm still commited to projector setup, but was really not impressed with picture quality for now. Will be trying different settings, good to hear there is room for improvement, maybe it will be better with my painted on screen. Toronto is not that far. Maybe I will visit some day ) Anton. Gremlin77 Posted July 8, 2015 Author Posted July 8, 2015 Okay, lets talk about pricing. The tornado cockpit was totally empty and so it was not so expensive ( think it was about 3000 to 4000€). It was from a company that restores planes for museums, and the shell was the rest. An expensive thing was transportation with about 1000€ and the ejection seat with about 2000 €. But think about buying all separate parts of a seat, would be much more expensive and you wont find them all..... The two projectors are about 450€ each, the projection surface is a simple kind of cotton. The pc, dcs runs on is an i7 with a modern graphic card an 24 gb memory i think. Another old pc for instrument panels projection. The whole electronic stuff was without counting the try and error versions perhaps about 300€. And thats all. The rest is spending a lot of my free time, but this is also the beautifull thing about its visit my build thread Gremlin's A-10  http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=86916
