So I kind of resented the fact that ED was going to make a WWII fighter with no back-drop. It made absolutely no sense to me.

Now I respect ED and will give them my money no matter what until I become completely dissatisfied with their products... So I decided to say "What the hell..." and downloaded the beta. ED is the last line of defense of a dying genre of game/simulation that just happens to be my favorite. So no matter what, I will try to support the cause.

This beta is AMAZING. Let me say first that the A-10 beta made me want to pull my hair out for the whole time it existed... And even the first 3 months of it's final release I was not satisfied... But P-51 has me happy as can be right off the bat.

I do not think I have ever had this much fun playing a sim... (And no, it's not just due to me never playing prop sims etc... I have had my runs with IL-2 and ROF, etc.)

I have had more fun running the challenges than I ever have had with any other sim. This beta is almost a RC. Feels very polished and complete even though it's v1.

Wow ED, way to knock it out of the park. I really hope that you continue to work on this era of warplane... Because this is just amazing.

I even attached a track so everyone can witness how awesome this is.

I think there just might be alot of members eating crow about now..so you might not be the only one ..taking back their thoughts on the subject..but saying that there will still be some not happy..but I look at it this way how and what they improve with this is a better product for them...

I am glad you like the P-51D and the start of maybe something very new...

I have to agree, I was surprised how enjoyable the mustang is to fly and I look forward to seeing what the finished product brings. In saying that, I don't believe the focus should be on ww2 aircraft for future DCS products until we get atleast 2 competing fast movers of atleast a similar era to make multiplayer interesting. I think being smart and choosy with the aircraft Ed brings to the DCS series will make the difference between either somewhat of a very well modelled novelty, or a true digital combat simulator.

That being said, I think the mustang has its niche and will likely form somewhat of a cult following.

Oh I agree that ED should not shift their focus. But this is still a nice addition. I would not mind seeing other WW2 aircraft in between projects and such.

my friend, I tell you, if the sim frustrates you, then playing it will let you see how intricate the detailed flight model is. Let alone the physics. Now, I want to see the G Hammer campaign flown with a P-51D alongside the A-10C. I don't want to start a thread to say how wonderful and stuff. I take pride internally that I follow ED. By far they f*ucked microsoft big time. I even mindlessly printed the manual, and bounded it. I don't care where ED goes, because I'll always be ED fan. God bless and get some!!!

AWAITING ED NEW DAMAGE MODEL IMPLEMENTATION FOR WW2 BIRDS

Fat T is above, thin T is below. Long T is faster, Short T is slower. Open triangle is AWACS, closed triangle is your own sensors. Double dash is friendly, Single dash is enemy. Circle is friendly. Strobe is jammer. Strobe to dash is under 35 km. HDD is 7 times range key. Radar to 160 km, IRST to 10 km. Stay low, but never slow.

I just got it installed this morning and set up my CH products. I'm using 4 CH controllers for this sim. Fighterstick, Pro Throttle, Throttle Quad (for additional axis input i.e prop pitch mixture, radiator) and Pro Pedals.

I must say I was FLOORED by the aircraft, its sounds, the flight model (I flew a Pony-D in 2005) and the Graphics! Wow! just WOW! As a retired Naval Aviator - currently an airline pilot, I hope you guys continue down this road. Carrier operations in my favorite F-4U Corsair in this medium would make me leave all other sims.

I think you guys just blew IL2 Cliffs of Dover right out of the water - and did it with just one plane.

I agree totally. Look you might not like one paticular plane but we must support Ed and Team on this. I bought Blackshark with no pretense of flying it. I want to support this Team so I get those planes I like to fly. If one comes out I dont like to fly I will still buy it.

I also must say this DCS: P-51D is absolutely the best virtual flight experience I ever had! Incredible how it flies through the DCS world as if you fly through real air, not to speak about the enthralling sound and the feel of sheer speed!

Super!!!

i was on the nay say side too, but i have been quite impressed with what ive seen so far and the mess that the other ww2 flightsim is makes this even more appealing, whilst not and probally never set in a ww2 environment it still makes sense. TBH at the end of the day i dont think there is any aircraft that would sit out of place within DCS environment. i think these prop aircraft could certainly bring a bit more joy to the sim in general. and inbetween all the modern combat stuff its a no brainer and a nice fun break. keep making more special era aircraft and whatever else. suits, and hopefully one day we can get an aerobatic based module with that increase in scope of the series.

I feel the direction of the series will even appeal to aviation hobbiests (not just the combat sim crowd) as its a virtual and collectible product. I happen to love air combat in a sim, but the virtual experience with these planes (no matter the airframe) is something else. Its like having a fly able model aircraft collection where everyone with similar interests can get together and play, serious or fantasy.

It's pretty humbling to see some of those admit their initial reactions to the news were a a bit premature. Don't get much of that on the Internet and in game forums period.

I wouldn't say that I am eating crow. Flying the P-51 is a real joy, no question. But I still see little more in the upcoming years ahead but curious unconnected threads. Even with Combined Arms we will still find ourselves in historically inappropriate battlefields playing with and against the most unlikely friends and foes. Its all cool. Its worth my money but I am a sucker for these sorts of things. We all are. ED, I would have to assume, knows already how those threads will tie together. When they do I will happily eat crow with my borscht.
