beczl
Wow 3ds max is expensive! $3500.00....if I have to pay that much I wont be learning anything new. Yes it is. Also need a good Photoshop or similar program. I bought my first Max 1200$ than upgrade to Max 2008 for another 1100$. The PS CS4 was 820$. The PC upgrade was another 900$ and so on... So basically the mod making in general a bit cost related. These things never belong only the learning and knowledge.

ED Team NineLine Posted May 17, 2012 ED Team Share Posted May 17, 2012 Nonsense, a guide is being worked on by luckybob. In the meantime if others could figure it out you can too. Nate QFE, its amazing how much info I have gathered just in the last couple days from google, reading these forums and asking people here (regular and ED Team members). luckybob9
Looking forward to seeing those, but as I said, so much info is out there if you look/ask though :) I dont want to get anyones hopes up with instantly becoming a modeling superstar after reading them, but they are just very basic guides designed to walk someone from start to finish in exporting a simple object. It starts with the assumption that you already know how to model and to basic unwrapping. I certainly wouldnt expect that this was the place to learn how to model, more about what to do with those models as far as getting them into the game and functioning in DCS World. ED Team NineLine Posted May 17, 2012 ED Team Share Posted May 17, 2012 (edited) He can make all the FREE mods he ever wants. I wonder how true that is, if you can even share free your creations with others? Specially considering its going into another commercial product? But I am no lawyer, regardless I am currently working in the student version, if in the future I ever saw an opportunity to make money I would definitely consider the purchase. Executioner
...anyone know how to structure an export module / plugin for Blender? It's been suggested that this would be something ED would have to do themselves (you'd need the EDM model format and that's internal to Eagle Dynamics) :) Would certainly be good to have though - can't really go wrong with a free modeller (as long as it has the capabilities to provide all the features model designers need to develop DCS models, that is) :) Martin... ED Team Alex Okean Posted May 18, 2012 ED Team Share Posted May 18, 2012 Some tricks for model viewer if you use model viewer in your 3d model development file Config/ModelViewer/autoexec.lua will help you in some ways: you can mount textures and liveries package: mount_vfs_liveries_path("Mods/aircrafts/Wunderluft/Liveries") mount_vfs_texture_path("Mods/aircrafts/Wunderluft/Textures/base_zip_package") automatically load model on start LoadModel("Bazar/World/Shapes/A-10.edm") and set livery LoadLivery("A-10C","184th FS Arkansas ANG, Fort Smith (FS)") and args SetArgument(0,1) SetArgument(3,1) SetArgument(5,0.75)

Blaze
Yeah, very useful indeed. Set the Mustang to load by default with the gear, flaps can canopy extended. leafer
Well I guess its not so much the modelling I am asking about as it is once the model is in how do you make it "alive", if it has a gun, you want it to fire etc.. Was wondering if there was info on how to get started on learning to do that? Anyone care to answer this, please? Or point us to the right website, tutorial etc... ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P

aaron886
Anyone care to answer this, please? Or point us to the right website, tutorial etc... Not particularly. ;) Make it "alive?" Start by replacing another object. Start by painstakingly finding every file that relates to the object you're replacing, and try to piece together how those files comprise the object. That's what I'd be doing. Step by step tutorials for everything is a luxury you probably will not have.

edgepilot
This isn't related to .EDM, but it's a video I made last year explaining how to import your model as a new structure in Lock on. It may also work for DCS, but I haven't tried it yet.
213
doesn't work because the file structure has changed.
