In my opinion the torque effect on the P51 is simulated in the wrong direction.

 

With a propellor rotating to the right, during take off you should have every force acting to the left on the aircraft (Yaw left):

 

1) Slipstream acting on the vertical tailplane acts, forces nose left.

2) Torque pressing the left main wheel harder, causes more friction to "nose left ".

3) P-factor (down going blade producing more thrust with nose high) acts to nose left.

4) Gyroscopic effect of the prop during tail going up (90 degrees in turning direction)...also..left.

 

I kan imagine that (with that much power and such a big prop) the procedure for a take off in a P51 asks for trim right because of this.

 

In the simulation however, it seems that during take off every force is trying to race me to the right side of the runway, so that seems wrong to me.

 

Hope i'm right, Hope DCS will correct to the left :smartass:

You have something going wrong here. If you leave the aircraft untrimmed and gun the engine, you will be off the left side of the runway in no time.

 

If this is not happening to you then something is not configured correctly and one of your controllers is applying forces you are not aware of.

You are probably over-trimming.

The plane definitely behaves as you would expect for a clockwise-rotating prop. Check for severe crosswind components from the right.

 

You might get some right pull if you trim enough right rudder while the tail wheel is in contact with the ground. This is due to the way trim is currently modeled in the sim; it moves the entire control surface instead of just the trim tab. This means that it moves the tailwheel too. Anyone want to check me on this? I don't have the time to run a test right now. Use the recommended 6 degrees right rudder trim.

 

Realistic trim is on ED's to-do list that is hung on a wall somewhere in these forums. For now, I use no more than 2 degrees right rudder trim during takeoff. Most of the time, I leave it zeroed.

Don't know what happened before, but now the P51 it is violently going to the left without correction....great !!

Hey man all i'm saying is I think the OP deserves some respect, its a ligament question, with that comes (hope for) a ligament answer.. Within your position I would think you could give some insight, not just a "nope"..

Having regard to the nature of the issue experienced by the OP, there was no insight to give. It goes without saying that an issue as fundamental as the direction the torque forces the airframe, had it been wrong, would have been picked up and rectified long before the release of the open-beta.
