Looks like the same old effects.dll crash is still present in DCS World 1.1.2.1 :(

The Effects.dll name is missing from the new crash report but its there in the windows crash dialog:

Repro steps remain the same (With A10C, maybe possible with other planes as well):

To reproduce it, all I need to do is place myself sitting in batumi runway (takeoff from runway wp) and repeat "eject-get new plane-eject-get new plane" for long enough (esc->briefing->fly causes the old plane to explode, creating smoke etc.). It can take a while to get it to happen but eventually it always does. When the FPS gets very bad from the amount of smoke&fire I used time acceleration to let some fires go off and then continue ejecting.

 

Though now you do not need to even eject to get a new plane, just hitting rshift-rctrl-tab for long enough will repro the crash 100% every time. This way it often happens when around 200 smoke effects have been created:

But I already also had it happen once when just dropping a CBU-87 at the beginning of a "blank" mission with nothing but my a10c on it.

 

As mentioned in the original A10C thread it can seemingly happen any time there is some smoke created (or dying?). Because of this almost every mission I fly end up with this crash when things start to blow up, with a debugger it looks like there is some uninitialized or released memory accessed so wether it happens or not is likely completely random.

 

I really hope this could finally be looked at and fixed.

After DCS a-10C patch 1.1.2.1

I get this everytime i use a CBU-97 and I also get a medal each time :huh:

I´m having that CTD issue too. It seems to be related to CBU-97

 

I get the same with both CBU-97 and CBU-105's (although I've not tried -87s). Simple mission - 4 Shilkas and an in-air start - if I turn the aircraft around and drop a CBU105 targetting the 2nd inland Shilka - at the point the CBU-105 "disperses" I get a hard lock crash (as above).

 

The CBU-97 gives the same style crash, but happens the INSTANT you pickle.

 

Interestingly - if I go from maximum graphic detail (HIGH settings plus full AA and all the trimmings) to minimum (LOW detail and no AA, mirrors or anything else) I can get the -97s to leave the aircraft and cause the same at-"dispersal" crash as the CBU-105. This is all with a resolution of 1920x1200.

I get the same CTD behaviour on CBU-97´s and CBU-105´s. I can see the bomb falling into the ground but just after the blu108 submunnitions and parachutes open i have CTD. I can´t get to see the new animation

Aye, there's been a few CBU CTD's when dispersing. Reported and soon to be gone again. :)

Not sure if this related to CBU crashes or not.

 

Getting random crashes in MP every time I fly in MP. Sometimes it's in 10 mins, other times it's after 1 or 2 hours of flying, but at some point MP will crash every time.

Note someone has added the "CBU dispersal" part to the thread title, it wasn't originally there and the crash this thread is originally about has never been only about CBUs. It can seemingly happen with any explosion/smoke effect as demonstrated by the repro steps which have no CBUs involved at all.

 

I also tried the repro steps with the P51 and Su25T and curiously I could not get it to happen with them even after 200+ new planes, although I think I had the previous version crash the same way while flying a "real" mission with the P51. But given the nature of the crash (uninitialized memory access?) it is likely just a matter of some random memory allocation order that hides it. With the A10 it seems it typically crashes every time after 50-100 new planes in the repro step (and of course at any time during a mission).

It crashed 2 times i tested it both were with the CBU-97 and they were being used in ccip mode when they crashed, in CCRP no crash

Just unleashed 8 CBU's in CCIP mode and no crash.

 

EDIT: Using CRRP and 7 CBU-'s (one pylon for the litening) no crash.
