Yeap, can't launch it without the catapult. Though the blueprints of the catapult and its mechanical doohickey are very hard to find.

That used to be one of my favorite intercept missions in good 'ol IL-2, trying to tip over that doodle bug. Endless hours of fun. :D

yep, happy days! Really.

For me something clicked practising those missions and they taught me the beginnings/basics of formation flying those missions! It took me ages but got a few in the end. Darn good fun....!

Does anyone know what is an acceptable polygon counts to put in DCS World? I'm guessing you don't use turbosmooth on a model meant for games?

The V1 is currently 4873 polygons but is it too much?

Nearly 5000 seems to be too much, especially considered that theres not much detail (antennas etc.) on the V-1. Also its not controlled by the player so it doesnt need to be that detailed. If you could provide a wireframe I could help you and give suggestions where to reduce the polycount.

EDIT: If you want to talk to me about this stuff directly, add me on Steam: Ich 666 :)

Well with the high standard of DCS models, I don't think it's that big of a deal. There are objects in the game that are over 200,000 triangles (A-10 pit), so 5000 is nothing.

With the addition of LODs as well, performance is un-affected.

A wireframe would be good.

5000 sounds about the max. and a 2048 texture aswel.

The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.

Sorry for the absence but I just got a job working long hours. I'll post the wire frame in a few days. However, I have a funny feeling Combine Arms is going to make what I want to do here seem very childish.

Leafer I don't see why your Tiger would be anything other than awesome, if your V1 model is anything to go by! (Any progress on the next stage for the V1?)

I'm guessing wildly here but... If the tracks and weapons are animated and the exterior model is good it could be made to work in CA with assistance from those in the know(?) - it's not like you need to build the inside architecture of the beast, from first impressions anyway? (Altho how awesome would that be).

Anyway I've been playing with 3d max for a little while and really enjoying it - a lot to learn tho :book:

I will bring some WWII models to the party when I've done something worth talking about.

Sadly, the V1 model file is corrupted because I can't open it for some reason. The one I posted was the third rebuilt because of this bug or whatever it is that is happening with max. I've searched for remedy and read it's a known problem with newer max? Even the auto backup files won't open. I think the best thing to do might be not to save your work in one place? The funny thing is my earlier files from Max 9 open just fine.

I've worked a little on the Tiger I today and I tell you I'm almost afraid to open the file now.

EDIT: Thank you for moving it to appropriate channel, mod. I shoulda known better. :D

Hope it's all right with the mod to post this here. Anyway, I plan to somehow incorporate German vehicles from WWII era into DCS World, and decided to work on the V1 since it's the easiest. Keep in mind I'm very new to 3d modeling, and any advice would be greatly appreciated. If anything, it's more stuff to blow up? :D I'm curious how to add this into the game and make it fly? :music_whistling: Or is that something ED does for us?

EDIT: 5-27-12 I'm feeling adventurous. Started on a Tiger I.

spitfire pilots use to chase the v1 bombs also niknamed doodle bug and flip them over with there wingtips, gyros go haywire caused them to bellyover in flight crash down into the ground or sea away from popullated areas if they could do it on time.

this site has black and white images of this very action taken by spit pilots over uk back in ww2.

Very sorry to hear you've had a set back - I'm using 2013 and I'm finding it falls over quite alot altho I thought it was me - I save a different file everytime I make a half step forward - took your lead and trying to do the V2 as an exercise.

Stick at it! - your V1 is as good as perfect if you ask me, and your Tiger chasis looks spot on!

My V2 is lots of very loosely affiliated components at the moment:megalol:
